I know it's too soon but I would love for the new Mini to steal design and tech from Nokia; colorful polycarbonate unibody, qi charging, fast charging, improved screen, Nokia exclusive apps, etc.
So... What happened at the event?
Windows Phone Central has learned some of the details of this new series, including pricing, processors and storage size. In addition, there will be new Type covers, possibly to fit the larger device.
For the Surface Pro 3, which is now confirmed as being a real device, there will be five versions offered with varying pricing and configurations:
i3-4GB RAM-64GB - $799
i5-4GB RAM-128GB - $999
i5-8GB RAM-256GB - $1299
i7-8GB RAM-256GB - $1549
i7-8GB RAM-512GB - $1949
As mentioned above, there will also be new Type covers, though it's not known what if anything is new about them.
Interesting. Seems like they're planning on dropping the base 64GB SKU down a hundred dollars but opting for an i3. All that with a larger screen. This is good news. It's on the 20th.

I feel like the Surface Pro 2 barely launched and it seems a little too soon for new models already, but I guess it falls in line with their plans to get them ready for Back to School.
All in all I couldn't care less though. They need to leak the damn Mini, for Christ's sake.

It's in one week
My only issue with the i3 is that it only has 64GB memory, and the OS will and does take a chunk of that.
Art stuff is one of the main reason I want a bigger screen. My shitty PL500 is a better option to me atm. 10" is just a touch too small. Give me 12" minimum surface area and you've got a deal. Whether you do it by fucking off the massive bezel or otherwise isn't my concern. Just get it done.
PS: It's become clear that some misinformation about Tuesday's event has been seeded in an attempt, I think, to find leakers. To try and combat these efforts, I've relied on multiple sources and have not published information when it's arrived. I appreciate and respect the Surface team's desire to tell their own story.
Sources tell me that Microsoft plans to launch a new Surface Pro model on Tuesday that is both bigger and thinner than the current Surface Pro 2. Beyond that, I don't have too many new details, but I'm wondering whether the new device is an additional model and not a replacement for Surface Pro 2.
...
I don't expect to see a 4:3 Windows tablet anytime soon, but as many have noted here in the comments, such a device would be wonderful and appreciated. It's unlikely that the new Surface Pro, which I'll call Surface Pro Book for now, is such a device.
So what's reasonable to expect?
We know Surface Pro Book will be powered by a current generation Intel Core "Haswell" processor, and that there will in fact be a range a processor choices. It's a Pro device, not a consumer device.
We know it will run "real" Windows 8.1, not Windows RT.
We know it will be bigger and thinner. But not how much bigger and how thin. It's not hard to imagine "squashing out" the current Surface Pro 2 so that it is both bigger and thinner but has the same overall battery capacity, and I am OK with that. But the size. I'm curious about the size.
The Yoga 2 Pro has a 13-inch screen, which again is semi-ideal in laptop mode but too big in tablet mode. My guess is that Surface Pro Book is not some new concoction but is rather something the Surface team has been working on since at least last year. So it's probably not all that radical from a design standpoint.
How big is too big? 13 inches. But what about 12 inches? 12.5 inches?
How about a device that maximizes the screen size within the body of the device and eschews a large bezel? You could easily fit a bigger screen in the existing Surface Pro 2 if you just gave up .25 to .5 inches on each bezel. Imagine how big the screen could be in a device that was just an inch bigger in each dimension.
Excel + PowerPivot + PowerMap
And hold more than two browser tabs in memory (i'm looking at you safari)
Although in general there seems to be some contradictions here:

I reckon we are looking at:
- Surface Mini
- New product line above the Pro
What, if not 4:3 does that mean no Mini? Mini in 16:9 or 16:10 would be weird.
next rev literally has to up that due to their snap ripoffAnd the iPad still stuck on 1GB, sigh
This should be an interesting event
I think he was specifically talking about x86 Windows tablets.
But current 8" tablets are 16:10 and seem fine.
Awww yeah. I'll be all over this if the reveal is right - loving my SP1 (despite the Type cover 2 bugs) but Im a sucker for newer tech and could always do with some more grunt. Such great little machines.
I know people don't have a crystal ball but what should we expect in terms of the graphics performance on these things? I've been doing some (light) gaming on the SP1 and found it pretty suited to my needs, how would a SP3 stack up?
Ah cool, exactly what I was after - thanks! The best GPU that comes with haswell ULVs is Iris 5100 HD, I don't think that fits the current TDP of current Surface Pro1/Pro2 CPUs but now that it's bigger it's a possibility I guess still I think 5000 is far more likely. HD 5000 is in the current MacBook Air.
As for what kind of performance upgrade it is look here
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7072/intel-hd-5000-vs-hd-4000-vs-hd-4400
If the mini is compelling enough I may upgrade to it from my 1st gen RT
There might not be a mini... this was misinformation to weed out internal leakers.
Pro 2 should see a price reduction yes?
I'm actually really impressed with this article. It both states the facts, but outlines the potential key differences between the products. Well done businessinsider.
Unless Microsoft is doing updates to their OS with it, 4:3 will exclude running two things side by side and keep one of their biggest features out of their flagship product.
