Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

I got the $35 tier with PSN codes -- but perhaps I failed to understand something here. That PSN money was actually a bribe and I was supposed to go spam Twitter/Facebook in return for taking it?

They had a bunch of $2 codes for tweeting with a hashtag about the game (And it's completely unbelievable that the developer of the game with thousands and thousands of pieces of $1.99 DLC would for some reason have extra $2 PSN codes).

Which hypnotized an unsuspecting public into pledging their money to make a game.

No Vita? :(

Wait a minute. Sony gave an incentive to people to share a campaign drive to fund a game for a Sony device from an independent developer that will self publish the game? That's very cool of Sony.

Sony own the IP which makes the whole thing sleazy as shit.

Why is it being crowd sourced in the first place if Sony is so invested in trying to get it funded? Oh look Sony's blog is telling people to fund it and the yosp fucker is tweeting about how he's giving $2k. I don't trust this to all be legit. I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of the backers are hundreds of accounts Sony made and donated $20 just to save face. It's a Sony first party game pretending to be an indie title.

They own the game and the IP. It's only on their systems. Their Twitter account and their various PR Twitter accounts are promoting it.

I'm sure there are other very obvious things, but I have only been paying ancillary attention to it.

Smart marketing. Any negativity is coming from within the poster.

Tinfoil hats are so ugly. Prove the conspiracy or shut it down.

I don't really care. It's Ampliltude 2 and it's getting made. Save the tinfoil hat rambling for the tabloid blogs.

One of the more obvious reasons why most Kickstarters are PC-only to start is that only established developers are going to have access to console development kits, although that barrier has been coming down over the last couple of years. I (or any indie dev with no significant history in the past, really) couldn't roll out a brand new game and claim it's for the PS4 and XBone from the jump -- that's kind of nuts. Usually it's the attention from a successful Kickstarter campaign that gets them enough notice to get access. There's nothing from stopping me from rolling such a project on PC, though.

The 5k hype is upon us... this project could be as little as one backer away from being funded. Holy crap. Looks like a new update just went out and that they'll announce stretch goals once the campaign is funded (which is going to happen in the next hour, if that).

Wow you sure are angry about this. It's been explained why this is being crowd funded I don't know how many times. Sony isn't just gonna throw money at something that's so risky, especially considering how the first game wasn't a big success at all.

You are not making sense, if they wanted people to fun it right make hundreds of fake accounts to fund it?

I'd be excited for the game if it had just been announced as coming out. The way it's being funded upsets me. From the bribery to the stink of Sony all over it.
12,000+ awesome fans funding it should not be upsetting at all. A sequel would never be made without this Kickstarter. Freq & Amp sold pretty badly on PS2 and neither Sony nor Harmonix would be wise to shoulder all the risk that would come with funding this without the fan support. This is a passion project and those are rarely financially viable.
And there has been no bribery, you don't seem to understand what that word means. At all.

You come off as extremely delusional and butthurt for absolutely no reasonable reason

If you don't think "Tweet about this game in exchange for $20!" counts as bribery than I'd be interested in what your definition of it is.

No one really gives a shit what sort of crackpot theory you want to believe. You can take it elsewhere though.

common man. just let people be excited for a game they want being made.

if sony were seriously invested in funding a sequel to a niche game, they'd just do so officially.

It is when the thing is being contextualised as something Harmonix simply need crowdsourcing to make happen

Oh I'm sure Harmonix just happened to have tons of PSN credit lying around for years since RB stopped being relevant and I'm just being paranoid :^p

Apparently that the credit is in the form of ten $2 codes, which conveniently is the amount that they were giving away with bottles of Pepsi as a Rock Band tie-in a few years back. So yes, Harmonix happened to have a pile of PSN credit lying around for years.

Because that's what companies with billions of dollars in debt love to do -- give themselves money, and lose 7% of it through Kickstarter fees.

I think the intention was to try and make a lot of profit through this endeavor, because they thought Harmonix had a large fanbase due to Rock Band. But then in reality nobody really cared all that much so instead they had to resort to giving away PSN money and promoting it like crazy.

That part is speculation though. I don't like to speculate too much.

From the KS page:

Amplitude Backer Update #9 - Almost There!

Hey everybody,

Ryan here. I can’t believe how close we are to fully funding Amplitude! This week has been absolutely amazing. From everybody here at Harmonix, endless thanks for the support and love you’ve shown Amplitude. We’ve got about 22 hours left to go and are in striking distance, so let’s make one more big push to get us over the mountain!

You may have seen our daylong telethon livestream yesterday. We streamed for 6 hours and gained $32,000 and 834 new backers! We played hours of the original Amplitude and had lots of you call in and chat with us. It was a great time and we thank everybody who watched. If for some reason you want to relive all 6 hours, the show is archived on our Twitch.TV channel here:

In these final hours, we wanted to share some more music our audio team has been working on.

Pete and Chris also kicked these 30-second previews of the music they’ve been working on. A bunch of you have asked for this, so we hope you enjoy them!

Also, we have a fledgling scene up and running in our engine, Forge. Here is a quick screenshot, but tomorrow we will post some footage so that you can move through the 3d space a bit.

Thanks again for your support! We’ve almost made it! Hopefully our next update will be to tell you we’ve hit our funding amount and get to talking about stretch goals! Let’s finish strong!

It's Sony's IP but I don't think they are willing to gamble on something that didn't sell too hotly in the first place.

May as well speculate here while you still can.

This info is at the start of this thread, but here you go. Sony owns the IP. It was dormant. Sony didn't want to make a sequel of Amplitude (as many other IPs they have and don't do nothing with them). Harmonix approached Sony to learn of their interest to revive the IP. Sony didn't want to fund/publish the game but lent the IP at no cost for Harmonix which Harmonix accepted. And here we are. Sony if it wanted to fund the game would do so and collect the profits as any other publisher. It is an indie game as Harmonix is self publishing the game. Sony won't see a dime of the sales besides the royalties of any Playstation game. It's a weird situation but there's nothing improper in this. Only if you have some axe to grind towards Sony, Harmonix or Kickstarter campaigns. That's on you though.

Damn! The second new track sample is dope, sounds like it would be super fun to play.

EDIT: Well thank god that guy is gone. This is time for partying!

Do you think I care if you care about what I care about? And if you do think I care that you don't care what I think why do you think I should care about that?

Yeah you have to be deliberately trolling. No one can be this aggressively asinine and be serious.

EDIT: Oh he's gone. Good riddance. Let's keep the positive vibes going and discuss some music genres we could be hearing. Personally, I'm looking forward to some tasty house style tracks.

And Insomniac's totally in on the deal, using it to promote a Microsoft published game by putting a Sunset Overdrive song in the game.

So I guess we've established MS is going to sell XBox division to Sony, and Sony's paying for it with old Rock Band codes. There's goes the big E3 surprise, thanks.
