Oh, wait. They included this.

Gamespot's reliability just sunk through the depths of hell.
It can't be that though, it's supposed to be an Xbox One exclusive and that runs at 1080p 60fps so that automatically rules the Modern Warfare Collection out. ;)

Uuugghhh desperate MS throwing tons of money out there to differentiate themselves with more exclusive titles: Shocking News.

This is also unfortunate for broke gamers, but....

Sony would do the exact same thing if they had some extra cash in the bank. It's just how businesses work. And it's probably a safer bet than setting up a new studio to then sack the majority of them after the game has shipped.

My personal opinion is that if MS are going to go for third party exclusives (for hire developers like Platinum don't count as a third party in my opinion) they should go for new IPs.

At this stage unless there is a big reason why multi platform development is causing issues (which I severely doubt) then moneyhatting a known franchise would be much more costly than getting a new unknown IP.

Exactly only one who afford is MS.

There's no chance MS would be willing to spend so much money on getting exclusivity for a single game. They care more about money than winning a console war and buying the exclusivity of any of those games would cost faaar too much.

MS are not willing to lose money to win an imaginary war...

In my opinion, EA, Activision, Ubisoft and Take-Two are out of the question.
They dont need Microsoft's money and they want to be on as many platforms as they can. (except the Wii U of course).

Capcom, SEGA and Namco Bandai are more likely to take the deal. Of course all this is relevant only if the deal is recent. If the deal was made a year ago then anything is possible.

Yeah but you see... that strategy didnt exactly work wonders for 360 in the long run...

it came to the point were PS3 had like 10 exclusives coming out in 2013 vs 2 exclusives for 360.

Getting 3rd party exclusives aint gonna seal the deal. Titanfall is a perfect and -recent- example.

I didn't miss it, I'm just saying when it comes to big exclusives, Platinum bombaaa isn't one of them.

sure, but we've had countless 'big news incoming' threads based on website teases, and they're nearly always disappointing.

No point arguing what would objectively be a 'big' exclusive, rather what gamespot would consider enough to tease it as 'big'. And frankly that could be Putty Squad 2

Gamespot rumor? This has been a social media rumor for months now.

Hardly surprising, though. XB1's lineup of games would be pitiful right now if it wasn't for third-party moneyhats.

They did Killer Instinct (a 16bit game) with that team that made silent hill homecoming.

I think they are going for nostalgia again and making a new Streets of Rage game with Sega with Yuzo Koshiro composing for this game

If its Shenmue 3, do you reckon that they will also have to HD remake Shenmue 1 and 2?

There are a lot of people who have never heard of Shenmue, (I've heard of it but never played it) and seeing as its heavily story driven it would alienate a huge amount of potential buyers if they just released Shenmue 3.

So, my bet is that if it is Shenmue then its the whole set in one go.
as much as we'd love it to be Shenmue, it wont be. It never is.

sadly :'(

The Gamespot news section was my favorite of any website just a few years ago, under Brendan Sinclair. Now it's in the gutter, just a piece of trash that will run any story for clicks. :(

Except that doesn't seem to be what anyone else is discussing.

not in such terms, but what people care about for their console wars is which franchises will basically stick around.

It's a semantic discussion about the use of the term in the vernacular, in which I don't think there is any real "right."

i'm trying to bring a lot more structure in determining what is right, since things like '2nd party' don't actually exist in the real world. i think it's better to be more informed and live outside the fictional world of consoles and companies with experience points, hp bars, and limit breaks.

As posted in the thread, the former CVP of Microsoft Game Studios and now Head of Xbox, considers first party to be defined by who publishes the title in question.

he could really just mean that it's a first-party published title, in which case he would be correct. the last story is a third-party published game, but i don't think people consider it 'a third-party game' when it's copyrighted and trademarked under nintendo. any sort of third-party ownership they may consider is mistwalker, but attributing that much power to the publisher based solely on publishing is incorrect.

I'm assuming it's only become a topic of discussion in trying to interpret what exactly Gamespot means. Is it likely they're referring to IP rights? Or is it more likely they're referring to the game in question either being (1) developed by an external studio and/or (2) published by an external publisher, regardless of IP rights.

well exclusive is exclusive, whether it's timed (perhaps what mass effect was), a deal for just one+ game (sonic lost world/sonic boom), or outsourced first-party ips (excite truck). all of them have their places on list wars, but something like the wonderful 101 is going to be more prestigious than lego city undercover. people who have invested in one platform are going to want more and expect the same level of quality. there's less of a chance with that regarding the first two options. that's when knowing exactly what a property is would be good, when backing up your arguments with facts and stuff.

this all stemmed from rrc1594 asking the difference between 2nd party and 3rd party. there is no such thing as 2nd party in the real world, so the point is to distinguish the purpose of a 3rd party in relation to 1st parties. that's really what it comes down to, and there are a lot of details and variations. dumbing that down does no one any favors.

Interesting to see if and what goes exclusive for this E3.

The Dead Rising franchise was on life support, I'm sure they were touting it out to all console manufacturers. But a successful last gen title going exclusive, after seeing the sales figures, will be interesting.

Well, technically they don't even know what it is either so we are going off of someone else telling gamespot it's "big".

Cant really say a game but I'd imagine its one of these publishers.

Capcom
Square
Namco
EA
2K/R*

MS is only one can do that. GTA, Mass Effect and RE7, mark my word.

Nope, MS had that ability last gen for a number of reasons: 360 was selling more, it was easier to develop for, PS3 was bombing, MS was willing to moneyhat the big games and only ended up getting a timed exclusive GTA DLC.

No big game will ignore the PS4, they can't afford to.

Thuway tweeted it wasn't Resident Evil.

Lol, you don't need him to tell you it isn't RE.

Given that they've been saying Rare's old games might return and all the hints to Battletoads plus the rumor of a platinum games exclusive I think it might be Battletoads. If I am right I know I would be excited.

This. I'm pretty sure what gamespot considers 'big' and what the people posting here think is pretty different.

Valkyria Chronicles 4
Resonance of Fate 2

Tales of Vesperia 2
2D Prince of Persia
Cliffy B new project

Half life 3

That's the only one which would piss me off as a PS4 owner. I don't think it's likely after releasing the trilogy for the PS3, especially as EA was happy with ME2 sales eventhough the late port wasn't even marketed. Considering the PS4's userbase, they'd leave substantial sales behind. Just like FFXV would, if it were to pass the XB1.

I'm more or less indifferent about DC4 & RE7, unless the series would actually return to the glory of the early entries. GTAV & HL3 won't ever be exclusive, nor Fallout 4 & L4D3 leave PC behind, nor DQXI & MH5 be tied to a platform that's not popular in Japan.

PG doing BattleToads well God Damn. That would be something

People saying GTA want they're heads busting. That would cost $1 billion, its just ridiculous to claim that. $250 million to develop and sales of 30 million copies over 2 platforms, lost revenue from the other platform would be at least $500 million if not more. Just no.

Rare is first-party.

That would be great but first of all this will not be a 3rd party exclusive since MS owns the IP and IIRC CBOAT said that the Platinum exclusive will cause some shitstorm but not on the same degree as Bayo 2 so it will probably be a sequel to a known title. Of course this goes against ntrkl's leak which implied that it would be a new IP directed by Kamiya. :P

Completely agree, and I think the lukewarm sales of Titanfall will have reinforced this for EA and all publishers.
