Personality. Might be too early to tell, but the charm of Borderlands comes from the fact that they fill the world with humor and details and style. Not unlike how Rockstar' approaches GTA. Little things. So far, I don't see much in these early videos that makes me want to hang out in this world. No different than the Planetside or killzone worlds. I like living breathing places.I can't even bring myself to finish one of the videos. I want to like this game, but I just can't. There's something... missing, and I can't put my finger on it.
Grunts and Jackals weren't exactly the smartest of enemies in Halo either, just to point that out. The enemies in this footage look like very low level, low rank enemies. The Hive enemies you see a lot of in the footage are called Thralls, and are litterally the lowest ranked type we know of from the Hive race. So they are basically Grunt/mindless flood tier.
And could you clarify what you mean by generic? Because so far it seems to be a word people use without knowing what it means really. Only games I know of that looks similar to Destiny, are Borderlands and Halo. Generic doesn't really apply, when in an entire industry, there are only two other products that are similar to the third product.
Oh I know about that. As I mentioned earlier, it seems they are handling ADS like Bioshock, and not like COD (optional vs forced) I like that. I mean, I would prefer if the game didn't have ADS at all, but if they have to include it, that's the way they should do it.bare in mind that weve seen footage with gunplay and very limited ADS. it seems that ADS has been added to assist with aiming at distant enemies and is not at all needed for close to mid range, despite the guy in this leaked alpha using it 100% of the time.
Doesn't the sparrow have some kind of boost, like the Ghost in Halo? It would be weird if it didn't, and I think the player just didn't know about it, that's why it was so slow. That's my guess at least. You mean the hoverbikes? The footage I saw of it made it look painfully slow but the other player's one was much faster. Did the player here have a slow starter bike, or was he just taking his sweet time?
Generic it certainly isn't.
I don't think it looks that bad. The problem is that the enemies are super, super uninteresting. They literally just rushed the player and were taken down in less than a few shots. The Wizard wasn't any more exciting, considering he just floated around in that room and threw a couple smoke bombs. No attempt to engage the player at all.
My assumption is that is an early game dungeon of some kind, which might explain why it was so easy. The narration from Dinklage seemed to suggest that; if the player hasn't already reached the moon, I assume there's still quite a lot of story left.
If every dungeon is that easy and every enemy that lame, however, Destiny is hopeless. I don't care how pretty the game is, or how incredible the class-building stuff is, a shooter lives and dies on its combat.
It's not uninspired either. Not sure I agree with the claims of it looking generic. It looks uninspired, but that could be entirely down to the location and the fact that the footage is from very early on.
Generic it certainly isn't.
It's not uninspired either.
Oh god it's ADS.
Fucking fuck fuck fuck.
Not necessarily true. It shows that the person doesn't care about leaking, and could cause issues with Ubi's own IP. That's a long shot but is not impossible.
I am way to late. No videos.
There's nothing wrong with ADS.
I didn't catch all of the footage but it looks the same as it has always looked to me: could be fun, if it's not all that novel.
There's nothing wrong with ADS.
The setting.How is it inspired?
If the gameplay is frantic and depends on a lot of player mobility, then yeah, there'll be problems with it.There's nothing wrong with ADS.
What is ADS?
The googles, zey do nahthing!
There's nothing wrong with ADS.
- Coming from ME3 I'm not really enthusiastic about the range of choice being reduced to three characters and... ten (?) or so abilities between ALL OF THEM, that's still my biggest problem with this game. Watching the stream and how the gunslinger skill tree basically offers "only" upgrades and buff to already existing powers, I'm a bit sceptical into how much replayability factors into multiple playthroughs: messing around with builds was the thing I had much fun on while playing ME3.
I want to be sure that once I'm done exploring I will still be drawn back to it and enjoy something new and different from previous playthroughs.
For all the folks saying it looks boring... to play devil's advocate here the Diablo games, and even Borderlands aren't terribly entertaining to watch. The hooks get to me when I am building my character, their skills and loadouts... all we are seeing is a vertical slice of gameplay in an area whe have seen before. Which many of us will be able to experience ourselves before long most likely. The later encounters and missions and loot and strategy could develop and change throughout the game, we don't know and I don't think Bungie owes it to us to show all their cards. I think we are experiencing "Old Russia" fatigue, but I have faith in Bungie to bring something that is fun to play. I hope I am right.
Im sure there are tons of layers to this combat system and these enemy types that we have yet to see
Aim Down Sights.
Basically like COD and BF guns, aiming through the non sniper optical sights or down the barrel of the gun.
I don't like ADS game play, it's why I don't play CoD and why I always preferred Halo.
Someone hosted them on mega, and the third post has a link to them.
In one of the vids there was a little sense of exploration, especially with the music setting in. Of course depends on how much there actually is to discover, I also hope that the other planets look more interesting ( the game takes place on various planets in the solar system, right?)Personality. I still dont know how i feel about this.
Well, I guess if you say it is.Which is pretty much by-the-numbers sci-fi.
The mighty has fallen. Just buy Diablo/Borderlands people.
Which is pretty much by-the-numbers sci-fi.
How is that inspired to you?
Right, but we have powers here, CC and power ups. Until we see some higher level play we won't see how it works in context. This low level stuff won't be showing us much.
I have faith that Bungie know what they're doing.
uninspired, uninteresting
dead uninteresting areas and encounters with uninteresting boring dime a dozen looking game mechanics and some rpg lite elements tacked on (which every game does now)
Perhaps soulless is a better word than generic
There's no hint of a good idea, good mechanics or good gameplay in that footage
Why do people keep saying this. They did NOT spend $500 million already. They didn't spend it for the one game at launch with marketing. Much of that figure has yet to be 'spent'. The $500 million is the budget for the long-play, the Destiny franchise.
Just the first game is by itself has a development cost around $200 million now. We know this from the leaked contract awhile ago(which was before the delays). It's not 50 million or anything that low. Marketing rule of thumb is double the development/production costs. So yea, the first game alone is at least in the 300 million range on up. Don't forget those DLC and expansion packs.
Right, except scoping and shooting in Halo feels just like ADSing in any other game to me. So I don't really get this as an absolute either/or.
Well, I guess if you say it is.
Sometimes the "by-the-numbers" approach is to provide a grounded backdrop for the more fantastical elements. What would your expectations be for a more innovative sci-fi setting?
