The Treehouse Live Format is the Future of E3

This Treehouse stuff has been amazing.

Never thought Nintendo was capable of this, or would ever be the first one to do it, but bravo.

Also, their presenters and translators have been fantastic. All very informative and likable.

Isn't he hosting the Smash Tournament?

Yeah, it is kind of funny. People were saying that Nintendo won't be at E3 and has no presence because of the conference. But to us people who aren't at E3, they have the most presence.

absolutely brilliant. Nintendo totally nailed E3 this year. Their direct was humurous and concise and the Treehouse thing gives you a real feel for the new games.

Well said. They've done a phenomenal job this year.

I'm looking forward to a lot of games I wouldn't have much interest in before today. For example, Hyrule Warriors.

Fair, but lets not pretend Nintendo can not be as shitty with the control of information or last year were any better.

This thread is literally about how well Nintendo is giving us information compared to last year.

Either Nintendo controls what the press sees, or Nintendo controls what we see. I'd rather just eliminate the press.

It really is fantastic and is truly impressive seeing as this is Nintendo's first attempt at doing something like this.

I can see why many (not all!) game journalists are kinda cold to Nintendo these days. They've dropped the media ego-stroking of the conferences and are now also providing a depth of E3 developer playthroughs that most media outlets can't even get close to.

Kudos Nintendo, and hopefully we see more of this in the future!

Seriously, this is 100x better than some PR people talk about some obscure mechanics for a minute and then show another teaser.

I really dig this.

I'm getting classic G4 show vibes watching Nintendo Treehouse. Its like I'm getting 3 days worth of G4 Nintendo coverage. Love how in depth they go with each game.

A perk of showing games when they are in a playable state and not only existent as concept trailers and scripted demos.

People clinging to the old conference format couldn't have been proven more wrong (not that it's the first time they have been).

I´m absolutely shocked just how well everything works/ worked.

I was a bit ho humm at first and...I´m pretty sure nobody was quite sure what Nintendo was getting at with their different events....

But this is the way to go !

Im missing this tree house stream. Do they upload it somewhere so i can watch it later?

We probably wont know for sure until after the broadcast tonight, but if you go to their E3 page here, it says on the bottom "highlights" (nothing there yet though.)

It is pretty fantastic seeing a game demoed by someone competent for a change. Not to mention the info that we get straight from the people behind the game.

It really is great, I've been glued to the screen pretty much since the digital event (which, by the way, was spectacularly bonkers).

I agree, live demos of gameplay, interviews with game developers and no bullshots, CGI trailers or scripted sequences = a better experience for gamers.

But that means publishers will have to start showing games that are actually ready to be announced rather than 2 years off with a CG trailer.

You don't remember when Nintendo announced Yarn Yoshi, X, and SMTxFE? Those games will be out two years after they were announced (SMTxFE hasn't even been heard from since).

But yeah, I'm liking this Treehouse Live stuff.

Seriously. I can just imagine Ubisoft trying this format but it ends up being a French guy talking for thirty minutes about how innovative his co-op is in Assassin's Creed Unity with no game footage. Nintendo's just playing the freaking games, with some commentary but it's light and informative.

I don't get the (very few) complains. PR? They're showing gameplay, there's no room for PR there. What you see is what you'll play, no bullcrap scripted demos or CGI trailers. It's a superb idea and indeed the best thing this E3 IMO.

To do this you actually have to have gameplay ready to show, and be confident enough that it will look fun and not be an endless stream of cutscenes.

Nintendo had both. The gameplay and the confidence. I'm not sure you could say the same about all of the other big companies at E3.

Fantastic E3 from Nintendo so far. Aside from completely botching the Star Fox reveal and Miyamoto's projects looking terrible it's been pretty flawless so far.

Thats why I think is disturbing.

But band must play on, i suppose...

How is that disturbing? What can the press do that I can't?

I'd rather watch the stream myself than have to listen to some bored games journalist babble on about how Nintendo doesn't innovate anymore while glossing over the details I care about.

It could use a producer(s). And give those guys and gals some drinks to looses up. I thought of a similar idea at last years E3 but make it an actual 24 hour virtual network channel with ads of nintwndo games and replays of the digital event to fill in tine, with a midnight 'Nintendo After Dark' show. You'd need some genuinly funny people who can talk for hours and still keep things interesting.

Brilliant format, I just started watching to see what Miyamoto was up to and I'm still watching. Just pure game playing, not following a script and some talking by the devs who seem to truly enjoy their self, what more do we want? No hassle checking out different media outlets, just open the Twitch stream and you are directly in the action. In fact, the Treehouse is helping me to decide if I want a Wii U (I suddenly do).

Awesome! Can somebody shop in the Wii U being inside?

Best thing for E3 definitely.
I don't really have the time to sit and listen to the entire streams, but I really liked what footage I saw of Splatoon and Miyamoto's things. That was really great to see people playing the games well and enjoying them too.

Basically. These games exist and are on their way out, and they're showing real gameplay.

It's been a great. I love how much content Nintendo has been putting out, and it's great to get some extensive game play demonstrations while developers talk about the game and give you an idea of the process. This is really a format I'd love to see more of going forward.

Thats why I think is disturbing.

But band must play on, i suppose...

But at least we see this footage, these are extended gameplay footage far longer than most of footage the press shows to us generally.

That's far more useful to me than short cut together clips or behind the scenes trailers and demo's.

Yup. The Captain Toad stuff was great and Splatoon multiplayer really showed off how much fun the concept is. It was cool having Miyamoto on plus the Smash Bros tournament later. I hope everyone adopts this format.

This format is amazing. I love the in-depth gameplay and developer discussions. Please do not revert back to the previous conferences!

Yes, but x's 100! Seeing as G4 would should a total of about 30 minutes of Nintendo stuff throughout their 12 hours of E3 Live coverage...

This is amazing for Nintendo fans. This just shows that they are finally starting to listen. Between this, putting GC controllers back into production, Captain Toad being made into a full game, etc. I am proud today to be a Nintendo fan! #TeamNintendo

I suggest just don't stick to just watching big conferences for you dosis of information. Also, lets not pretend there is no akward moments (Ganondorf vs Lu Bu?)

I still do like the pomp and circumstances of the full press conferences but I have been streaming the Tree House post show all day on my second monitor at work: it's super engaging.

Seriously. I can just imagine Ubisoft trying this format but it ends up being a French guy talking for thirty minutes about how innovative his co-op is in Assassin's Creed Unity with no game footage. Nintendo's just playing the freaking games, with some commentary but it's light and informative.

Not much of substance to talk about in AC Unity, maybe some history lessons.

I agree. I usually just watch the conferences and catch up on the highlights later, but I can't stop the stream because there's just so much interesting stuff on here. It's brilliant!

They've sold a copy of Hyrule Warriors because of this. The extended game play demons and discussion around the games is a great way to showcase them, better than a 3 min cg trailer.

I can seriously see the Treehouse stream being on constantly for the length of e3,hopefully they mix it up some more with more developer discussions and other segments (there's a roundtable on tomorrow iirc)

But at least we see this footage, these are extended gameplay footage far longer than most of footage the press shows to us generally.
.

Oh, they are doing great right know in this regard, but some websites does that also during the show so lets no pretend the revolutionize anything.

It's non-stop game content. No worthless CGI trailers, no boring charts and graphs, it's all game. It's legitimately interesting to watch, too. There are so many fun tidbits (and, occasionally, big news) that they reveal about each game. I prefer Nintendo's E3 format far beyond any other, the only thing lost was reactions.

Well said ! Gameplay (for me) sell a game. And they don't only show 3-4 minutes of scripted gameplay, they showed almost 30 minutes of Hyrule Warrior.
