Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

If the Splatoon demo were at Best Buy, I'd be driving there. I really, really, REALLY want to play this. The flow and feedback looks so gratifying. And there's so much strategy. SO MUCH. :-D

One of my top favorite games shown thus far.

I will play this, stay in base painting the walls piss off my team-mates with constant pee jokes.

This is some UT/Halo/COD4 level multiplayer shooter design breakthrough shit. But to me, this actually seems more appealing in a lot of ways (and I love Halo and UT).

Hopefully people can see this beyond the kid-friendly art style (which is honestly pretty refreshing). I can't wait.

Yeah, it's like a multiplayer game design master class from what I can tell. By a Japanese studio. By NINTENDO of all people.

Damn it looks so generic like De Blob on Wii, I hope it gets a lot of that Nintendo polish magic before it gets released.

we finally know which is nintendo approach to online shooters...!
dreamcast vibe, with the blod meeting jet set radio and tony hawk
it reminds me also about sunset overdrive

I really like the design of the Inklings. It doesn't hurt they're being put to the service of Nintendo's Unreal Tournament/Sunset Overdrive lovechild.

The way they are talking, this game will def have voice chat, they are saying you can have strategies with your teammates

how are the game media reacting to hands on with this?

Well from GiantBomb seemed to think it was promising

Splatoon, an "eight player, four-on-four online action game." You claim your turf by splattering ink on the ground, rather than shooting everyone. Covering ink claims territory, and the team with the most territory at the end of the match wins. Characters will transform between humans and squids; humans can fire ink, and squids have higher mobility. This actually looks like a really neat implementation of new mechanics in a third-person multiplayer shooter.

Of course there will be other modes, they are just showing this mode off now, the game is coming early 2015, so its almost a year away

I thought there would be but it's good to know.

Wow, searching for splatoon on Twitter shows so many post of people loving spatoon. Damn, Nintendo is onto something here.

Just played it on the showfloor, had a blast with it: looks sharp and cool, plays nice, feels really great.
If you guys have questions just ask. :D

It looks like Jet Set Radio, Super Soakers, and an oldschool cafeteria food fight rolled into one

Please tell me I'm right

How's the booth? Looks like a cool arcade set up -- two banks of four screens each for the full eight players, it appears.

Makes me want a Nintendo arcade.

Looks a lot more fun than all the military shooters.

I agree. This was a pleasant surprise. It looks like great lighthearted fun. I also like the gameplay element of being able to paint paths to facilitate speedy traversal for you and your teammates (or hinder opponents from doing the same).

What's more appealing about this compared to CoD, etc, is someone who's good at headshots won't dominate the match since it's equally important to cover territory with ink. In this way, players of all skill levels will thrive. :-)

Well one way you can help is get those headshots and hide also to get up to those vantage points and cover your teammates.

Create small splatters with your sniper rifle for your teammates to quickly traverse to the other teams base.

Sorry if it's been answered earlier in the thread, but do we know if local multiplayer will be there? I really hope so.

Yeah, more I hear about it, the more I realize how brilliant this game is. It's the typical Nintendo kind of thing. They wanted to make a shooter. Most shooters require skill and aim. They realized that that's less fun for people who can't aim, so they made a shooter where missing is the point. Brilliant.

Just want to say that I find press ZL to squid hilarious for some reason.

Hey, was there a lot of usable weapons? I'm sure the demo was limited though. Looks like a blast.

Exactly. All types of players can contribute.

This warms my heart. A legitimate new IP in a genre Nintendo really hasn't done much with.
