Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

Course the trailer opened up with the Nintendo Network logo so who knows what the plan for it is. I'm really hoping it has local splitscreen.

As for map jumping, did they say you can jump anywhere or do you tap on a teammate? I thought I heard the latter but could've misinterpreted it. If the latter it could be binded to some unused buttons, like one to cycle through teammates and another to map jump. Or if the former I guess a map toggle hold button and cursor/pointer to pick a jump point...crappy with analog sticks but would be somewhat quick with the remote pointer.

Edit: read some impressions saying you tap on a teammate, so cycle+jump button scheme should be possible.

Yeah I guess that could be possible, maybe use the right stick button? I doubt this game will have melee attacks anyway.

This actually looks really good. Some friends and I were talking, and it seems like everyone is into it. Hopefully it has a decent voice chat solution, because I could see playing this quite a bit.

Any word of whether it's going to be a full priced game? I'd love to see this be a really fleshed out game.

Sunshine Mario cleaning up should be a mode >:D

Great and fresh looking game this. Leave it to Nintendo to make a genre that is done to complete death fresh and fun looking.

I just like the character design of the Inkling squid girl. She looks sassy and bratty, but cute. And it looks like others are seeing it too, judging from the fanarts people made so far.

Who were the guys developing the game? I've not seen them before. Nice to see a new generation of talent coming through at Nintendo.

Game looks great, one of the best Nintendo announcements in a long time. I just hope it has enough maps and game modes to keep it interesting and varied.

when the devs' part started on the direct I thought this was going to be pretty bad tbh... but by the end, this and Zelda are probably going to be the titles that get me a Wii U!

It looks really fun, innovative and an ACTUAL advancement and original idea for a multiplayer shooter. I would not be surprised at all if an FPS steals the switching between forms idea!

I want to be able to play as Mario with Fludd, cleaning up everyone's paint during the game. So not only do the teams have to compete against each other, they have to deal with Mario as well.

I think that is Game of the Show for me. Nothing else look even close to as much fun to play.

I'm honestly kind of feeling the same. Splatoon looks incredibly original to me. NIntendo pulled out the big guns this year, I may actually buy myself a Wii-U soon, the amount of games I want on the system has finally reached a critical mass that I can now justify purchasing the system.

And Splatoon was the icing on the cake of E3 that pushed me there.

Go away Mario

This should be a mode in the game. 4 players try to cover a specific percentage of area while two Mario characters try to wash as much off as possible.

Hisashi Nogami Producer - Directed Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing Wild World, & Animal Crossing City Folk. Also involved in creating Miis. Now Producer at EAD 2.

Yusuke Amano - Director - Directed New Super Mario Brothers 2

Tsubasa Sakaguchi - Director. This is basically his first game project as a director. Graphic designer/character designer for games like Twilight Princess and Nintendo Land.

One developer who shows love for four player couch multiplayer at least. Looks incredibly fun to plan with a group of friends.

It took nintendo a while to realize we need new IPs, and although this may not be a hardcore title it seems it's going to be really fun in a very innovative and fresh way. I'm really looking forward.

what's the fundamental difference (gameplay-wise) between painting with a different colored ink and "painting" with water though?

I do agree there is plenty this game can borrow from Mario Sunshine, a jetpack paint spraying nozzle is an obvious fit, as well as many elements of Sunshine's level design (especially the verticality and environment traversal elements). Also water balloons, moving obstacles by spraying them with paint, and probably much more.

Random observation, probably already made:

Just noticed that the posters on the side in the main screenshot in the OP actually state the date of the reveal (In YYMMDD format).

Makes me wonder if the text below it (which ends in a 4) is meant to be parsable.

Only a couple, most comments seem to want more SFW fanart.

I just want more stuff like what the Ika Musume artist posted.

Also, looks like there's a few people I know already who want this game. Already got a team.

Looks pretty interesting. Once funds are available I might actually get a Wii U.

There was a point in time when I had a thought of something like this for Nintendo like Mario Paintball. An FPS or TPS with that universe of characterz

This game for reasons unknown is the most interesting game of E3 for me. Although in my honest opinion, it doesn't look like something Nintendo made. It looks like a F2P game by Nexon. I'm not saying it should be Free to Play, it just reminds me of Kart Rider and Maple Story.

I hope this has a short story mode to give them a bit of personality.

Considering no one actually posted anything freaky or said they wanted the girls I don't think that applies here, if fact most were talking about how appalling that is. Though I'm surprised BGBW doesn't have a new avatar, yet.

it would take Nintendo to innovate a genre like this. Cliffy b is right.

But, that wasn't Cliffy?

At a certain point during E3, I got really tired of realistic shooters blending together, the brief bits of colour during the other conferences were high points. This is a lot more interesting just to look at than "drab military squad". The same reason TF2 is timeless.

This game looks incredibly fun and I wish I could be playing it right now. Two issues though from what I've seen so far:

-Please give us some type of single player mode! I can understand that this is meant to be primarily a multiplayer experience, but I personally need a single player experience as well.

-I hope you can use the Wiimote (with Wii Motion Plus) & Nunchuk. Pikmin 3 reminded me of how good that control scheme is for pointing. This game cries out for that control method, though it doesn't look like it will be available given the map functions in the game pad.
