Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

You're 100% spot on and i completely agree. I'd just really love that forever dreamed about Mario Paintball game that will never come.

But seriously, this is a great new IP for Nintendo and it looks amazing! They need it and it will do well, i'm sure. Character design (imo) is overall pretty cool but i feel it's nowhere near as strong as their set of iconic characters.

Well, they didn't become iconic over night. Who knows, in 10 years some squidgirl is as recognizable as Samus.

So i see there is one with headphones, will this be a type of thing where maybe you can choose the one you want?

Maybe its like a TF2 thing and you can like buy hats and what not

I'm sure if CTF was added you wouldn't be able to morph if you were holding the enemy flag. Your team would most likely have to support you as you run out in the open.
That being said.....stealth ninja-ing your way into the enemy base as a squid to steal the flag could be insanely awesome!

Sure you could. You'd just adjust movement speed and have the flag sticking out of the ink. Since it's in the enemy base it'll be covered in their color. Sneaking out with the flag won't be an option since you can't morph in the opposing team's ink.

This game looks wonderful. Best looking game of the show imo.

It's been a while since a videogame actually made me say "that's a cool idea" out loud. The squid girl/squid boy character designs are super appealing. Cheeky and modern. Very much unlike any of Nintendo's other mascots.

What do you guys think, could this be a Free 2 Play game? It just seems to be so heavily online focused and it would make sense. I don't see it working local because you might need the GamePad to see the map and jump to your mates. Without the GamePad, you need an overlay for the map.

F2P with cosmetic upgrades would be best. Nintendo has a lot of cool cosmetic stuff they could do.

This game looks pretty cool and more importantly actually innovative. Never seen anything like it. Grats to Nintendo.

New IP... and it's a SHOOTER. Did not expect this... very, very cool concept! A day one for me.

That said... i secretly wish they replaced the "squid kids" with characters from the Mario universe. Would have loved to see Mario, Toad and the gang go up against Bowser and his crew in each level.
You may leave now.

Mario characters would've been an instant turn off for me. I hope they never infect the game. They're all so tired and worn out by now(personally, of course). Diversify, so people like me can buy your games and systems (to Nintendo). This is by far my game of the show and the reason I'll practically be forced to pick up a WiiU if this doesn't have local co-op. It'd be my first Nintendo system in about a decade.
I can't tell from the vids... are there crosshairs? Or do you just aim via you paint trail?
Haven't seen any crosshairs.

I would totally not be surprised if they end up making this a f2p game with a big push to advertise it. It may depend on continued feedback from Steel Diver Sub Wars.

Nintendo shows a relatively appealing new IP and some people still wish it had Mario characters instead (or in addition).

Listen, I love Mario. That franchise is the hallmark of Nintendo quality. But, we need to embrace when the company branches out like this.

Don't be part of the problem. Support Nintendo in their non-Mario efforts.

I am in two minds if they make it F2P, I'd rather buy everything from the off,
and have unlocks etc,

ohh please have a level editor :)

Indeed..although I suppose they could included Amiibo support and force those who want to play as Mario to spend $10 (ish) to buy a figure.

Really looking forward to this. The first somewhat comparable game I thought about when I saw this was Team Fortress 2. I always thought if Nintendo were to make a shooter it would most certainly fall on that side of the line (be colorful, wacky, etc) and it looks like it has and I'm extremely glad.

I do wonder if this will be a full store retail release or perhaps a big eShop release. I can see it going either way.

If it was any other company, it would have been limited to a 10 second mention in a reel of games and maybe at most a single demo station. It has more attention because Nintendo were willing to give it the attention it deserves.

This is so true it hurts. Watching those highlight reels in other presentations is just annoying.

Calamari of Duty

Well played.

This game looks absolutely incredible.. another one that truly shined when you got to see more and more of it in action. As others have mentioned elsewhere, Nintendo's E3 felt like a far more effective method of getting the word out and actually informing people about the products. Kudos to them for what was shown and how they showed it.

I would've expected Captain Toad's odds of being an eShop release to be higher than this'. I'm definitely expecting a retail release unless Nintendo's going to try a F2P like pricing scheme for this.

So is this developed by Nintendo EAD? If so, I guess this is an official new IP from Nintendo? It's been a while since we've had one of those..

Captain Toad is a single player puzzle game. They're likely a LOT of levels in that game. It's still questionable I believe if Splatoon even has a single player. If it's completely multiplayer (online and local) then I would think it's chances of being an eShop release are high. It's likely geared more toward online multiplayer from what they've shown then it is local.

I think Nintendo Otaku games are (Star Fox, Steel Diver) have a future as e-shop subscription titles. Splatoon seems like a game Nintendo can market heavy to kids and can succeed as a retail title.

That's a good point. Don't know why I blanked on that. It does seem like something they really could target kids with and if pushed right get parents to get this for their kid over the next military shooter.

I really hope this is early 2015. Wish it was holiday 2014, that would be even better.

Seriously. The wait for this game will suck but a Feb release I could do.

I wonder of this will be digital download only seeing as its a pure online arena shooter.

This.

Also I'm very impressed and surprised! Finally a new IP from Nintendo and it's some kind of a shooter. It looks like a lot of fun and the colorful vibe is refreshing instead of all the dark military shooters. Day 1 for me.
