Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Question

I played the Alpha, but im only interested in competitive MP, so I just dabbled in the crucible.

Can I just play MP in this game and still get all the unlocks, weapons, abilities that one could get in the co-op, MMO, story side of the game?

Could be wrong, but I'm almost positive that all your gear and equipment comes from either exploring the world, or buying it. So I guess money from Crucible bounties could get you your gear.

I hope it does... but I believe imo it's a little too early for Bungie to say so. They've been pretty quiet about a lot of details about the game itself so not surprising we do not know of a CE either.
To early my ass, the ability to preorder and get included into the beta ends in 4 days. I am now forced to buy a normal edition because I want to get into the beta.

Not sure this is the right place for this - but this seems to be the only active Destiny gameplay thread. So, I want to get better at the PvP/Crucible play. I put together a couple of good games, but I found it hard to win any one on one fights. I'm decent at CoD and *used* to be okay at Halo, but I found it hard to adapt to the Crucible.

Any tips, strategies, loadouts etc that are recommended? I was playing as a Titan, and I found slowing down helped a bit, but not enough. Are weapons and gear normalized in PvP?

I'll just get the beta code, then wait for the collector's edition announcement and just switch my pre-order over from the standard edition to probably the biggest and most expensive edition.

Seriously though, the beta cannot come soon enough. Any word on how long the beta will be available?

Beta code redeemed and now I am waiting for that infamous second son bundle.
Do we have any gaf group on bungie? All I see is DestinyGAF with not so many people.

Well the weapons are balanced in crucible so it would make no difference if you had a legendary gun anyways.

Attack and Defense ratings for guns and armor are normalized. But weapons will retain their special ammo type if they have one, and stats like rate of fire, magazine size will remain unique to each gun. For uncommon (green) weapons and armor, any abilities they have (changeable scopes, throw grenades farther, melee hits decrease super cooldown, etc), as well as +STR/INT/Discipline they may have are in effect. With all this in mind, a higher level player will have an advantage in terms of equipment over a lower level one who might not have uncommon equipment. I might be wrong about the +STR part, but when I was playing with +27 INT, I felt my super cooldowns were shorter.

And the higher level you are, the more character upgrades you have access to. You can switch to different types of grenades, improved double jump/glide, and access to different stat builds, Fir Hunter, there is Way of the Nomad and Way of Something Else (I forget the name), but those can give you different levels of speed, toughness, and regen.

As for PVP tips, I found it best to not lone wolf it, and to attack/defend objectives with at least one other teammate. Sure I could win some firefights when soloing, but I lost more often. Headshots do a lot of damage and getting consistent at headshots decreases time to kill by a lot, compared to shooting only the chest. And at least in the Alpha, shotguns were pretty OP. I had to carry one myself to counter it, and it helped out a lot. And know when to trigger your super. Titans and warlocks have supers that can get multi kills easily, especially when you flank. As a Hunter, if I notice that we were losing one of our capture points, I'd summon the Golden Gun just before turning the corner to see the actual point so I can clear it out quickly.

Guns I used in PVP:
Auto rifles, pulse rifles (really good at mid/long range when you can land headshots), shotguns. Rocket launchers were also really good to use, pick up that heavy ammo when you can!

Did you up your stick sensitivity? I found it sluggish at default, but I cranked mine up to 7 and felt I could track opponents more easily.

Does anyone know if this game's gonna feature a halo3-reach-4-like theater mode where I can watch replays of pvp matches?

Would be awesome.

I've already preordered the game and received a beta code and input that code into Bungie.net. Can I do that a second time so I can test out the beta on two different platforms? I want to hop into the beta as soon as possible (which means PS4) but I prefer the XB1 controller for FPS so I want to give that a shot as well.

These are excellent tips, and no I did not up my sensitivity, totally forgot to do that. And yes, shotguns were definitely overpowered, I put together my best games when I switched to that.

I'm assuming the Golden Gun is something only the Hunter has access to?

Oh, and it seemed like Sniper Rifles were something I'm going to have to use to do well.

I have also been wondering about this.

Pretty sure you can. Amazon gave me two beta codes by mistake, and I was able to redeem both. As per Bungie's beta faq, by doing this you should be able to test beta out on two different platforms.

Quick question about the sniper rifle...do they all show a red laser to the other team? If not, how do you know if your own rifle is broadcasting your location?

Loved the scout rifle/shotgun for the smaller map, and pulse rifle/sniper for the moon.

That seems fishy

How do other GAF clans work? I guess I would have thought the OT creator would get to start the clan as well.

Anyone can make a clan and name it whatever he/she wants. I thought out of common courtesy, PsychoRaven would be the one who gets to make the clan since he made the Alpha clan, but then I saw that someone else did. But Raishin is a member of the Alpha clan, though I've never seen a GAF account with that name nor did I play with him in the Alpha. Then again, I didn't play with a lot of other GAFfers, either.

Yeah, that's what I meant, what's the common courtesy or common practice of who gets to make clans for Gaffers? I would have thought it would normally be who gets to make the OT. I wouldn't think it would just be some random guy just goes out and does it without telling anyone. I figured it'd be a little more organized so we can know that person will at least be responsible and stuff.

Was really worried going in due to the people saying it played like Halo. When I was able to get into the game with some friends I was surprised that it played nothing like a Halo game. And since when is hipfiring considered skilled?, me and my crowd have always considered it spray and pray.

I fairly sure the rule is whoever makes the OT or whoever made the original clan gets to make the new clan or choose someone to make it. And then that person would post the link to the new clan in the thread.

You can purchase weapons from merchants, but I'm not certain if they sell everything that can be obtained via loot drops or special weapons found in exploration mode. You will be able to upgrade your weapons skill tree with any weapon you have by using in MP I believe.

Edit: I'm almost certain if you want to obtain rare, powerful weaponry you will need to haul your guardian's ass around the solar system.

Some of the best armor and guns were only available from vendors in the Tower. And the currency to buy them was reputation and marks from doing the Crucible. So it's definitely possible to gear up by doing nothing but PVP (after doing enough of the mission mode to unlock access to PVP).

I had much more fun with other aspects of the game. Though I can understand how people (especially coming from a Halo MP background) enjoy it.

I played alot of the Crucible. What other aspects are you talking about? I did the 2 level and I tried to do the raid but the guys I got grouped with kept dying and I couldn't beat the floating ball by myself :( What else was there besides the 2 quest areas and the raid one?

Besides the Crucible, the Alpha had a story mission (kill the space wizard), exploration mode with a bunch of random fetch quests, and the strike mission. That's it. Doing the strike was other GAFfers was a lot of fun. Too bad you played with randoms who kept dying.

Explore, llevl up and discover awesome locations. Then play the strike when your gear wqs good enough.

In the Alpha, yes.

I played the strike many times with randoms who kept dying too. It was still fun. I only really needed a good group when tackling the legendary difficulty. Now that was intense and fun.

No, I mean the full game. The equipment was for level 20s.

Ok so just the strike thing is all I didn't do. How long was it pass the ball floaty guy?

I know we saw Level 20 Armor in the tower (I don't recall seeing level 20 weapons at the moment), but there were not level 20 drops in explore/mission for fair comparison. I could very well be wrong but I thought during one of the voice-scripted gameplay demo's (last year's e3 maybe?), Bungie mentioned the best loot would be drops from boss's, raids, rare encounters, etc.

Would make it much easier to just purchase the heavy hitters I guess, but less rewarding (in my opinion) as opposed to exploring and battling to earn special and high-powered weaponry

No thanks - I don't want another Diablo III mess here.

Yeah I think it's going to be very similar to the way WoW approached Arena gear. It will get you top tier weapon and armor but it won't give you the absolute best. And I think that's fair.

If you did plan venturing out and doing some PVE you would be quite formidable with the PVP gear and could use them to work toward specific pieces only obtainable in certain pve zones or firefights.

Hope it's like that.

High speed strafing and jumping while aiming (without zooming) and having to make precise shots (to the head) takes less skill than coming to a near complete stop, aiming down sights, zooming your FOV and slowing your aiming sensitivity? Since when? Halo combat is the opposite of spray and pray, unless you're a complete scrub and just AR-rush everyone.. which won't get you any results.

I should have been more clear. I value the gear bought with PVP marks because of how cool it looked. I imagine the stats will be similar to the best stuff you get from doing Legendary strikes. I just want the black and grey level 20 armor set for the Hunter that the guy in the spaceship bay sells. The decals on the PVP weapons were pretty darned cool too. If the PVP grind isn't too harsh, I might just suck it up and do it.

Destiny just made me realised how badly I wanted a full Trek game and we are not talking about the crap movies ones here. Imagine a Trek game that has RPG & explore the galaxy like Mass Effect elements. The phaser sounds so good too!

just my dreams
need a star trek game in the TNG era (not the crappy reboot era)
