Impressive stuff. Open-world gameplay mechanics really enhance the MGS experience to me. I replayed Ground Zeroes a lot and know that I'll do the exact same here. Using Fulton on every object and NPC to build your own base is something I look forward too; the micro-management aspect in Peace Walker was one of my favorite things about the game and I'm getting hyped seeing it return :)

Always bet on Hideo

What's the real purpose of upgrading your Mother Base though?

It's a fun lite-simulation system in the game to show how Big Boss is becoming more and more of a leader instead of just a soldier. It's probably similar to Peace Walker where you can't really screw up with it, but it allows for user customization and fun things to mess around with.

It looked awesome, but I'm cautious as I don't want to watch 30 hours of cutscenes inbetween 5 hours of gameplay anymore. (last MGS I played felt like that)

Kojima has said this game will have less cutscenes, everything shown so far supports that.

It is not an open-world-game though. Alt least not in the GTA-sense. It is a linear game with missions in an open world. You can not ignore those missions. It seems like you will not be able to free-roam - at least not while playing the story. I asked Kojima about this at E3 and he pointed out that any given mission sets limits to the player. In the shown example the player could wander off to explore, but Miller will be executed within three days of ingame-time. Then the mission is failed. Kojima pointed out the freedom of how to approach a mission is the big thing for him, not the freedom to explore the world.

mgs approach is the best kind of open world though, even though GTA had a very realized open world setting, the way you complete story mission is pretty linear. Phantom Pain just left you there in a huge area, let you do your own recon and leave the mission open ended on how you want to tackle it. it's the best kind of sandbox gameplay.

Damn, really like his movement set. You rarely find that amount of different movements in stealth games. Crouching, that's the only movement stealth games lile Thief or Splinter Cell have. ;-)

I thought the draw distance was great. Unlike Ground Zeroes, didn't notice any pop-in.

I noticed some when he was driving away from the air strike. I only catched the end of the demo (end of the mission + MB) but that was a lot more impressive than Ground Zeroes. Faith in the game restored!

Sounds good, it'd be nice if it factored into the rest of the game more/had more gameplay ramifications.

But a glorified, huge trophy room to explore and chill sounds fun too.

It was explained in one of the podcasts why Snake isn't talking that much:

Since it is an open world kind of game, and people progress through the game at their own pace they decided to take that step. Basically it's to enable people projecting themselves on Snake.

I really wonder if snake not talking much is just because they won't record most of his lines until later in production. It did feel weird that he didn't say anything so hopefully it's something they plan to add later.

If the games due in 2015 are even half as good as they look, it will easily be the greatest gaming year yet. Didn't think 2007 would ever be bettered

Ahhhh okay then. Thanks. Guess I'll just get used to it.

Wow that looked incredible. Kojima never fails to meet or exceed my expectations. There are just so many possibilities. This will absorb many hours of my life.

Also, I really enjoyed the mother base aspect of Peace Walker so I'm glad they put it in with that level of detail. Still blown away.

Gameplay looks great. Graphically it looks good but there was a bunch of pop in when on the horse and some in other vehicles. I'm sure that will get cleaned up

I actually prefer this kind of semi-open world structure if traversal isn't the star of the gameplay, like driving is in GTA or grapple parachuting and vehicle jacking in Just Cause. Infiltration is the star here, and that makes the most sense within mission areas, so this'll work for me.

I just hope its easy to replay missions, and hope for as many optional extras as we got in Ground Zeroes, if not more.

I have not played Ground Zero, but it must have been pretty bad then, cause there was so many pop ins all over in this demo. Not that it didn't look awesome anyway... and of course there is time to improve it.

and even when he was just walking towards that base you could see everything popping in and out of detail levels, which made everything in front look like it was moving around.

There was very noticeable pop-in actually when you were driving the jeep and riding the horse.

I'll give them a free pass though since the game isn't coming out till next year. Other than that, I'm very happy with the visuals.

Kudos for KojiPro and team for showing this to us this early. These E3 demos usually don't come out for a while or are even shown to the public.

Fuck this game is still so far away ;_;

That was amazing. Can't contain my excitement at the idea that you might invade other people's mother bases...

Cardboard box looks overpowered as usual. love it.
