'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

Well, the one most likely to be most affected by it, Amy Hennig has left ND. And even then, that never stopped Bend from making Golden Abyss.

And frankly, it doesn't have to be Nathan Drake. Conceptually, the IP is large enough that it can go Francis Drake, Sully... or even "Young Nathan Drake Chronicles."
I think GA is kind of a different beast, in that ND publicly mocked the idea of them making a handheld game, and people have very different expectations from a handheld spin off, it's very different than someone like Ninja Theory making Uncharted 5: The Ashes of Atlantis or whatever, if it features Drake or not.

Also, by the logic of Sony wouldn't let a hit IP sit, surely that would mean someone else is making TLoU2. Druckley are making UC4, there's a group working on a new IP, there's no reason to think TLoU2 is in-development at ND at all. Assuming UC4 is the end of next year, that will have been two and a half years with no development of a sequel to a hit game at all. If Sony wouldn't allow it, someone else must be making TLoU2 right now, but there's no way that's the case.

Would people be interested in a new, updated thread for the MP? The original thread wasn't updated a week after it was created, so it might be better creating a Google spreadsheet for people to add their PSN ID's and if they have a mic etc. to facilitate better matchups.

i never played the MP on ps3 but in very interested on giving it a spin now, a new thread will be very informative tho

Zavvi, Shopto and Amazon are holding at £42 thereabouts. 365games jacked theirs from £32.99 up to £37.99, which brings them in line with Gameseek. Shop smart out there, guys; don't give GAME their £50, not even for a game as great as this.

I think that's true, but it would presumably be affected by how ND felt about other people making Uncharted games. If they don't care, sure, put another studio on the franchise, but if they want it left alone, till such a time as they fancy revisiting it, I think Sony would be inclined to indulge them.

I'm not so convinced. At best I think ND will be given the courtesy of choosing where the the next mainline game will be built (I'd guess RAD).

There was a point where zavvi where selling it for £37.99 and they had a E3 10% off. So got it for ~£35. Was the best deal at the time and i've stuck with it. Don't know why they boosted the price to £42 though. Maybe it's selling better then they expected. I know it's currently number 1 on amazons best sellers (second being destiny)

Great prices, thanks for shopping around on our behalf lol.

And is this confirmed as 60 fps?

That would be incredible if true.

Okay, Sony's policy in this regard is terrible. That's just horrible customer service right there regardless of the stated policy.

That being said, why the fuck would anyone preorder a digital game? It's not like a physical copy, where there's a minute chance the store may run out of stock. It makes zero sense to me.

thats some weird way to punish the customers that make you earn maximum profits though.

maybe i had the cash to buy the game then but by the time it comes out i wont, or in 1 month or a year those $60 are going to be a more expensive dollars if your currency goes to shit even more, or you want the maximum performance out of the game because you have an SSD or shit you could be some crazy fanboy. whatever the reason is not right.

im not even asking the cash, im ok with instore credit. they still will have those 10$ back (in a week or month)and will look like legit guys to their customers

Do amazon take funds immediately for a pre-order? never used them. I really don't want to give GAME that £50 note.

They take it just before it ships and if the price is lowered, they *should* lower their price too to pricematch ( I picked mine up from amazon for £38 yesterday)

Fantastic, thanks for the response. Will go with them then since it's cheaper and I have a vet bill to pay.

I am appalled Sony aren't refunding back preorder money for price drop. I didn't buy the game (again) yet, and I see their policy clearly stated, but it's a horrific policy.

People who preorder digital goods should be treated like golden geese. Crazy. Some middle manager is screwing up.

There's no way they won't be issuing refunds now that they've lowered the PSN price. They'll probably post a statement on the blog early next week announcing the official MSRP and detailing refunds for people who bought it on PSN. If they don't do that I'm sure some gaming site will make a big stink out of it causing them to issue a statement & refund.

Preordered simply because I could. Also, it isnt a preorder, it was a prepurchase. Why not if one has the cash? That isnt the point though as is Sony and their policy on prepurchases.

You have the best answer right here, because you pay in advance and because of price drops.

I do agree it should be possible to get a refund. But their policies are clear.

Anyway, digital content is not going to sold out. If people want that bonus content they should just wait and pre-order closer to the release day.

Pre-orders make sense for hardware or physical copies.

Just curious why anyone would preorder on PSN ? I can see if it was available for predownloading, although I'm skeptical predownloading will even work given my experiences with PSN. " Oh nice, it says I can start to download at 12am est, so when I wake up on launch day I can start playing right away". Fast forward to 2pm on launch day, " WTF? I still can't start my download ? The earliest I'll be able to start playing is around 8pm now! Damn you PSN". Even if you could predownload, why not just "preorder" 2days before it comes out ?

This isn't the type of game I'd buy digitally. Are you guys planning on playing this game over and over for years to come ? Or is it strictly for the convenience ? I'm not interested in the multiplayer, I completed the game once on PS3 and never touched it again. I am excited to have another play through and I never bought the DLC, so that'll be fun. I'm going to trade in my PS3 copy towards it, and eventually trade in the Remaster towards something else later on.

Lol at Sony not refunding people. 10$ charged for the lesson taught about the benefits of pre-ordering.

I got a felling the Remaster is going to surprise most people with how successful it will be, its a must buy to anyone who didn't play and very tempting to those who did.

Honestly I expect it to at least sell a million. Which would be amazing even for this. It's launching at a dead time as well. No games really coming out at all. It should do very well.

I really don't want to condone the constant reselling of games. However I only played a few hours of this on PS3 and I think I may buy this... God damn it.

This. I never pre-order digital copies of games.

Fully agree, that coupled with full 1080p is going to make this even more glorious than before.

I just hope multiplayer can be 60fps too.

That link above your post sounded promising:

Kurt Margenau, Lead Game Designer, Uncharted 4 was also among few lucky ones who tested The Last of Us: Remastered, read his impression about 60 FPS below, he called it "Transformative":

"Played some #TLOU at 60 fps tonight for the first time (60fps cutscenes and all). Transformative. I'm a believer. Don't think I can go back."

To this, Neilan Naicker, Dynamics Artist at Naughty Dog replied:

"That's been my experience playing the multiplayer, I can't imagine playing it any other way now."
