I'm guessing people think we're serious with the "REST OF THE WORLD ARE YOU EVEN TRYING/ AMERICA IS THE BESTEST AT EVERYTHING EVER"

It ignores the fact that:

A) Our expectations for this team aren't that high. People saw the draw and genuinely wondered if we could get a point, let alone go through.

B) No matter what, football/soccer/footegg/footsphere/whatever the hell you want to call it, is still a seasonal sport for America at large. It's position in the nation's consciousness is improving everyday, but we're still not at the point where we care enough about the sport as a nation to where a World Cup loss is a huge deal. It will be disappointing for a little bit and then we move on with our lives. It is what it is.
