The good thing is, if the Solid Snake theory is correct, that Keifer will have to talk much more since he's the one codex character that talks a lot to Snake.

Robin Atkin Downes (Kaz) posted a small teaser video on his instagram teasing some new voice recording.

Goddamn, they're still doing voice recordings. Early 2015? haha don't think so.

btw. who the hell said "Shut up, Miller"? was that Eli??

I can see him being just a rude kid and that voice in the video would fit him.

I think Troy Baker posted a tweet of his last lines for TLOU like 2 or 3 months before the game shipped.

This game can still come out Early 2015.

They're probably just doing extra ADR. That can happen pretty late in production.

I really hope Kiefer gets to talk often. I want to believe that GZ and the trailers are not representative of his role in the game.

Me too.

i think atkin downes has done a damn good job of transitioning kaz's voice from what sounded very very "saturday morning cartoons" in peace walker, to something that matched the tone of GZ, and even moreso TPP, without completely changing the character. dude is talented.

It was eerily odd how little Keifer said in the opening of the 30 min gameplay demo. The whole convo was one sided. Come to think of it, I don't think he even said anything. Not even a grunt or a nod.

Gah this has been debunked by the devs on Kojima Station. The script was written well before they ever thought of Sutherland.

Reading this makes me more hopeful about Kiefer's (lack of) lines, not that I was too worried to begin with. Like hateradio said, I'm expecting a normal amount of dialogue.

I'm about to sound fanboyish as fuck here, but as long as Kojima is writing, directing and producing the game I have no worries about how the final product will turn out. For me he's already a proven auteur and I'll pretty much accept whatever his works end up as even if it isn't what I would consider ideal. If Kojima thinks there should be less player-character dialogue, or if he thinks the new gameloop should focus on collecting sheep, or whatever, I look forward to it.

I feel the same way about Platinum Games as a whole; I was very worried about MGS: Rising until KojiPro passed it on to Platinum. Once they did that, I went on a media blackout immediately because I knew that anything Platinum produced would be... well, better than gold.

Can we take a moment to talk about the lack of real world weapons in MGSV? This is the most disappointing thing about the game for me thus far. In every other MGS game they have used licensed real world weapons. Why stop now? Cost? The other games even made them a point! Ocelot's signature weapon is the Colt SAA, for example. "The Colt Single Action Army; the greatest handgun ever made. 6 bullets. More than enough to kill anything that moves." They're taking that factor out of this entry. In MGS2 it was a point as well. Snake knew the hijackers were Russians based on their AKS-74u's and Raiden knew the mercenaries guarding the Big Shell were Russian based on their AN-94's. Same with Snake in MGS3 and so on.

Agreed. Most of what we've seen of TPP is the beginning, at least points of which we'd be able to hear characters talking. That being said, Big Boss is recovering from a 9 year coma. I'd have a ton of things going through my head with very little talking.

the gun thing to me is minor, but it was always pretty cool knowing they were real guns. literally everything i know about guns is from games

I didn't really care for the lack of real world weapons until I've read your whole explanation and now it's bugging me for some reason.

I think the dynamic weather and time of day will also affect the cutscenes.

This scene from the E3 2013 trailer...

is probably just minutes away from this scene, yet the weather and time of day is completely different.

I remember there being a mention that the cutscenes can be affected by the dynamic weather and time of day, the engine is capable of doing it.
Found a video of them demonstrating it.

^ At 45:24 they show the opening of ground zeroes during daytime. I'm hoping that the tech is put to good use during TPP.

Still some time so that they can introduce real life guns into the game. Really liked how the characters went all gun fanatics with revolvers and sniper rifles. Tora, send this feedback to Japan!

Except the Patriot. The Patriot is freaking unexplainable.

Uh hello, it's clip is shaped like the infinity symbol= infinite ammo! Where were you when Sigint explained?!

:P

It's really going to bother me if this game sticks to the whole "stay out of sight for a couple minutes and the coast will be clear" thing. Either a base on alert needs to stay on alert or they need to let you hide well and let you use the phantom cigar to advance time a few hours to reset the alert phase.

That wont happen. The description on the Phantom Cigar shows it cannot be used under stress (close to enemies, in alert, or evasion).

Regarding Snake's lack of lines, I think it's a purposeful directing decision on Kojima's part. It's no secret that he's a huge fan of Ryan Gosling and movie director Nicholas Refn, and if you've haven't seen any of Refn's films you should know that the main characters in those movies don't have a whole lot of lines. Refn does this to project a dreamy surreal sort of heightened reality which I can see reflected in Kojima's direction for Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. From the lack of real weapons, laconic main character, to art direction I see Kojima trying to make an atmospheric pastiche of 80s and 2000s sci-fi/action films. Which makes sense considering MGS 1-2 were pastiches of 80s and 90s action/sci-fi films and MGS 3 was a pastiche of early spy films done Spaghetti Western style.

"Liquid and Solid hunted down Big Boss, trying to sever the tie that bound them to him."

Solid Snake obviously hunted down BB as part of his FOXHOUND missions, but why is Liquid so hostile to him? And what's he doing as a kid in Africa? Can't be coincidental that BB somehow magically stumbles upon him. Must be plotting by Cipher or Skull Face.

It's entirely possible that the cutscenes will be different for everyone. Depending on the weather, time of day the mission is done, etc.

That would be truly amazing. And also if your camo (if there's a choice) and mother base color scheme show up in real time as well.

Stuff like this is the reason you would want to do real-time scenes as opposed to seperate scenes that are pre-rendered or CG. Being able to change time/day/clothing on the fly is better for maintaining consistency.

Can we realistically expect the game to come out towards the end of 2014? Meaning november/december?

Or am I being way too optimistic?

Game looks like it is in very advanced development...

I think you're being too optimistic there. We haven't seen much of the African environment and Metal Gear Online hasn't even been demoed yet.

I dont think Kojima has to show all the environments before releasing the game, that isnt his style and I am very glad for this.

But yes, I know its more wishful thinking on my part... I just need this game so bad...

On another note, the MGO will be included in MGSV? I swear I read somewhere that MGO is going to be a download thing not included in MGSV?

I could very well be wrong though, or the article was just speculating.

Other than the fact the new MGO is being developed by Kojima Pro LA we don't know much about it. I haven't heard it would be downloadable, but it doesn't make much sense to not include it in MGSV.

Probably because big boss raised him during his crazy days and was a real prick to the kid. You know like most domestic dad issues.

disc space could force MGO to be a download. lots of devs are struggling thus far this gen to get game size down. something kojima struggled with last gen as it is

Yeah that's how it is ATM and I hope it changes.

stealth games always run into this issue. if you make it ultra realistic (ie if you're seen, they will go into alert mode basically indefinitely), it's too hard on the user.

i think of the way GZ and TPP do it as a gamey solution. a lot of people, myself included, in past games would just restart from checkpoints the moment you're seen. what's the best way to negate this problem? the player runs away and hides, waits. and then has to tackle the very same problem again.

basically, seen --> alert --> player runs and hides, waits --> everything resets. essentially the same result as restarting from a checkpoint. you still have to tackle the issue at hand

what you're suggesting might "appear" more realistic, but ultimately is still the same result: seen --> alert --> player runs and hides, uses cigar --> everything resets

is it really that important to change then?

I think since cutscenes are in real time it's almost a given that the weather/clothes/mother base colour etc will change in them, unless most don't blend seamlessly from gameplay like GZ.

Dinner with Platinum Games. Talking about Metal Gear Rising 2? Oh my gawd.

Yeah, i think in that Kaz scene it could also be raining. If find this so awesome, everyone will have a different experience.

Fixing the big pop in issue and nerfing the Fulton Recovery are the only things I want to hear an official word that they'll be addressed...

other than that...

Sorry this is off topic but can someone explain what I'm seeing on those plates
