The gameplay was wack. They should reward you for doing awesome combos, not for fighting with the camera and trying not to get hit (which is kinda hard sometimes, cause of the camera lol).
MGR2 might be a good game, since they will have a clearer picture of what they want, but MGR was a mess. It's a good game when considered in a vacuum, but when I put it against Bayonetta and DMC3, it falls so fucking flat it hurts.
And I'm no hater, bought the game, still own it, finished it multiple times on all difficulties and I'm not salty about anything. The game wasn't what it could be. Needs better dodging controls (screw square+X) and less reliance on parrying. That just slows the pacing down. The fact that you had to zandatsu every-single-thing to get an S was tiresome. Let it slip once and get hit? Even if you only lost 0,1% hp? No S for you. It's super bullshit and honestly, not fun. Dmc3 was way harder than this game and it was more challenging, fun and fair. That's my opinion, and I have zero problems in going against the tide. Platinum is an awesome team, but even they sometimes screw up. MGR is a screw up in my books. I'm certain that given more time they will have a clearer picture of what they want in MGR2 and I will be pleasantly surprised, but Rising didn't wow me.
Come on son, don't be one of those people.
Anyway I don't think it reaches anywhere near the greats like DMC3 or NGB either, I see it like Dragon's Dogma, a diamond in the rough that has the potential to be truly great.
It was clearly a game made on a rushed schedule, but what it does well it does extremely well, which is why I say fuck anyone who says they wish there isn't a sequel.(which you don't apply to)
