Shovel Knight |OT| The 8-bit adventures of Butt Butt Goes to Europe & Australia

i was loving the game on wiiU until i realized that you have to have the fucking wiiU tablet controller charged at all times or you can't play!

who the fuck made this stupid ass decision? if i am playing with a pro controller why does it matter what the status of the tablet controller is? mario kart doesn't require it, nor does any other game i have. now i wish i had gotten this for pc :(

Got the game on Steam. This game proves that 2D sidescrollers and 8-bit style games still have plenty of juice left.

The PC version also natively supports the DualShock 4 as well, even showing the PS button icons in-game. Nice!

Im surprised there was any doubt. All they need are original premises, fun gameplay mechanics, and really catchy soundtracks.

You dont have one of those charging platforms? Just leave it on that?

Just plug it in, not that big of a deal.
Don't you have the charging cradle? If you plug it in it turns back on instantly.

God, I love Plague Knight's stage theme. It's creepy yet quirky.
Major Castlevania vibes from the music in the Lich Knight level.

Game so far is easy, but hopefully it picks up.
The next three stages are much more difficult, especially Treasure Knight's. If you want more of a challenge, don't use the phase locket.

Playing WiiU version. Digger's Diary is by far nicely and seamlessly integrated (even replacing "Yeah"s with "Verily"s), with comments appearing and auto scrolling on theGamePad when using both screens.

Well, i will be honest, i had no faith on this game regardless of the positive reviews, i didn't back it up on kickstarter, and honestly i had the feeling this was going to be a ripoff of ghouls & ghosts with a mix of castlevania from the SNES era (which im deeply fond off).... but, i pulled the trigger and wow... i was seriously wrong ...

This game is not just "fun", is actually challenging where it needs to be yet "player-friendly" where i expected lots of frustration... Best.$15.Ever.Spent.

I'm really looking forward getting this game. It looks really awesome. I'm just not sure whether I should get it for PC or 3DS. any suggestions? Are there any differences? Anyone who has both versions that has a favorite?

Club Nintendo / eShop Question:

Do you get the coins automatically when you DL the game, or is after you do a survey? I want to play the game, but I'm already at Platinum status... do I have to wait until the first when the new year rolls over, or can I download now and get the coins later?

3DS: Beautiful 3D, StreetPass Arena.
PC: Big Screen, Local Multiplayer Battle Mode (coming soon?).

Bought. I might not get around to playing it for a little while but I wanted to buy day 1 to support since I couldn't help with the kickstarter.

Got a survey that expires Juny 26th, no coins auto added, on Wii-U version. No DDP points added yet either.

So far, I'm liking this a lot. I was surprised when I saw that the Wii-U version had achievements although it doesn't make a huge difference. I love the Miiverse functionality on this and I wish more games would utilize the service in this way.

But both sound so goooood. I'm leaning more towards PC because of the screen size but I'm afraid I will just leave it there just like every other PC game I've bought on the steam sale. I hate steam sales. They ruin my life.

Guys, is this game the real deal. Like, good as in - good?

Not this, oh it's good cus it's indie/retro/unique/hip. I've been burned before on GAF recommendations in the past.

Finished it in 5.5 hours. Awesome game, tight gameplay, nostalgic retro goodness, excellent virtacular music. I'm 2/2 with good kickstarter backing choices.

How do I play as the boss knights? And what's the deal with battle mode and challenge mode?

Pretty neat so far, though people with those sweet NES platformer skills will probably burn through it quickly on the first pass. I'd consider my facility for these types of games as average or perhaps slightly better than that, and I'm finding it to lean towards the easy side. For me most of the obstacles are quite passable once you fake a look at it, though I know many here love to have to die dozens of times at something while perfecting that picture perfect timing and placement.

The bosses are very nice character designs, and I was a bit sorry to carve through a few of them so quickly because of how neat their attacks and animations were.

The hardest element so far was one of those wandering map enemies, Baz I think was his name. Big guy with the whip. Died several times on him, and he got an audible "Yeah, f-you!" out of me when I finally defeated him.

Class production overall, glad I backed it. If I may say, I'd be keen to see them do a classic console style RPG with this setting and characters.

no i don't have a charging cradle. it just doesn't make any sense. why would it even be designed this way?

Just leave it plugged in to the charger then. Contact the support email so they can get it in the next lineup of fixes, and just leave the gamepad plugged in.
Unless your console didn't come with a charger for some reason and you're stuck with an eternally dead gamepad, in which case there really isn't much I can do.

It's really, really fun. Good controls and movement, varied level design that always has something new to offer, lots of cool things to increase replay value, great score with unique and memorable tracks for both levels and boses. The only issue is that it's easy-ish once you start abusing upgrades like the Dynamo Armor and Phase Locket, but you can increase the difficulty in a number of ways.

If you like sidescrollers, this is among the best I've played.

This is one of this times where I say "This should've been a retail game" because of the amount of polish it has in its level design, and the amount of new things you keep discovering as you play.

I bought a 3DS XL for $60 on tuesday. Got pokemon Y yesterday and Shovel Knight today , best $110 I ever spent. the thing that reall gets me a about shovel knight is, I was a sega kid. But I am able to detect the megaman, castlevania, mario bros 3 elements, yet somehow the game feels like an original title that came out of that golden era. It's hard to place why that is exactly. Maybe it's the modern touches, but the game definitely has a vibe/personality of its own. And damn, best chiptune soundtrack since Fez. The 3D effect is pretty great as well. It might be early, but if it keeps going the way it is for my playthrough, SK is one of 2014's best games.

SK makes a case for the idea of intuitive game design allowing the player to organically figure things out about the world/mechanics without burying the player in a mountain of dry tutorials. Triple A could do well with remembering that.

This game introduces its mechanics in such a natural way, through gameplay. I love it. I'm reminded of DKC: Tropical Freeze in that regard. It's how all games should handle teaching the player how everything works.

yeah i guess that's what i'll have to do. i wouldn't care except for the fact that the charge runs out so quickly :/

How did you get a 3ds Xl for 60? I'd love to get in on that action.
