Why would you reach such conclusion?

Honestly, it has been long since last time we got a semi with teams of equal chance and level.
Not trying to downplay my Argentinia bros but I haven't been that impressed with their play this WC from what I've seen... Am I missing something? (Except the obvious "MESSI")

Yeah Argentina have not been impressive at all. Missing Di Mario also sucks for them. I can totally see the Dutch winning that match.

Brazil has also not convinced me (sans the game versus Colombia), and now with Silva and Neymar missing and the Germans being the Germans. I think Germany will win that game.

inb4 Fred + Jo striker duo LOLLLLLL

Let's start by how they play like shit.

Even Greece, GREECE of all teams managed to score against Costa Rica, but the Dutch were too busy diving to be bothered with that.

Of course they only got this far by diving.

Throw in their thug in chief who fortunately has been missing, and it's a recipe for disaster

if mexico hadnt taken their foot off the gas pedal they would have walked out of that match victorious.

They didn't really want take the foot off, Van Gaal changed the team from defence 5-3-2 to full attack 4-3-3 in the second half and not many teams can change like that .
Mexico lost the moment as defenders where left clueless who they supposed to be playing now .
Mexico went backwards and parked the bus when the pressure got worse and worse and then Herrera panicked and pulled of his best striker for an extra defender minimizing the chance for a successful counter at the same time, after the equalizer it was all over for Mexico .
Van Gaal still a genius, always !

English always talk about rivalry with us germans but they never win except for friendlies
:p

I don't even categorize England as top tier in football, they are just like any average European team ( Greece, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden.. Etc).

I'm pretty certain if you asked any English Football fan to name their biggest rivalries Germany and Argentina would be 1 and 2.

(sorry Scotland)

I'm English myself, so don't really know how Argentinians and Germans view us in terms of football rivalry, bit I'd suspect we are kind of irrelevant to them, seeing as we pose zero threat. Pretty much how we see Scotland.

That's what you reap when you stockpile every young talent in Europe instead of investing in your own National youth .

Argentinians still kinda hate us for the falklands thing, I have met Argentinians while travelling and they has always been one of them that goes on and on about it.

I do have the impressions the England vs Germany thing pretty one-sided. Even the scummy BILD newspaper is pretty tame about the rivalry - there was basically nothing before the match in 2010.

Premier League clubs having more English talent isn't really the true solution though. English teams were mostly english until the mid 90s. In the 80s teams like Nottingham Forest and Liverpool dominated Europe. But they couldn't quite finish (although 86/90 remain the closest England has got since 66)

Yet England still has loads better players a lot of the teams who made it out of group stage.

What is England's football style, if you had to describe it? That's the thing for me. I have no idea how to.

I think if England was in pretty much any other group they'd have got out. Which I guess is luck of the draw. As for football style, England this time played pretty much the same as Liverpool, Including the Gerrard fuck ups for authenticity.

This means Argentina is favourites right according to this betting office?

indeed, see my edit up further. Looks like germany has the worst chance. Basically it 'should' be a latin american final.

But we all know it won't be :)

I really want that GER - NED final, I don't even care who wins then I just want to see that match (I'm german btw, I'm pretty much done with hoping for a WC win since we are always so close and then f*** it up in the semis).

Hard to believe they give Germany so little chance. I mean, they're Germans. They always have a big chance :p

How do you think we feel by now? Come on :(

Did any of the Dutchies post this yet? It's a bit of the Dutch broadcast of the game and the commentators phone is ringing. He says something like 'what's happening, God damn it' after the first time you hear his phone :p

haha we were wondering wtf twice during the game. turn your fucking phone off commentator.

he also got pretty stressed during the game and ended up freaking out and saying ROBBENS IN THE PENALTY BOX like 3 different times haha. that plus 'aaaarggghhh' during a few misses on goal.

One of those I clearly remember. For some reason my dad and I repeated him in the living room at the same time, it sounded so silly from Snoeks :lol

And indeed he kept saying Robben going into the box, Robben on his way to the box etc. etc.

You saw some of the elements of excitement from that Liverpool-style of play in the WC, but the moments were few and far-between. I don't think they make it out of G or A, to be honest, the way they played.

What's crazy to me from a US perspective is that they would kill to grow the talent England has on their roster. Sturridge, Sterling, Rooney, Lallana, Gerrard--all of those players would constitute a golden generation here.

And it makes me puzzled when I hear such doom and gloom when it comes to the team's future. That's undeniable talent. Maybe I'm just too much of an idiot to understand (really only picked up watching football on a frequent basis in 2012).

Hilarious seeing how they place Germany so low on the probability list to make it...

If i HAD to put my money on one team right now to win it all, its Germany. Seems like they finally understood how to win a WC, not by playing pretty football but by being smart.

Then again, a couple years back, Spain managed to do both but those times are over now..

Is there anything better than Brazil losing a potential final to Argentina? Can't think of anything else to top that

I want it to happen so bad.

Yeah, It wasn't until this World Cup I understood the rivalry between them. And as lover of salt, I wouldn't mind this.

But Netherland's defence is pretty compenent (compared to Argentina's).
I still think the defense of the Netherlands can be suspect, it's just that the teams they played made no effort in attacking. When faced against attacking opponents they have been pretty leaky with chances.
