2014 FIFA World Cup |OT7| Krul luck for Costa Rica after masterstroke from van Gaal

Reading all these "Hummels - new boss of German defense" etc articles makes me feel kinda weird, I guess?

Hummels was Löw's CB number 3, he obviously prefered Boateng/Mertesacker to start after Hummels' one bad game against Italy at the Euro. If Löw hadn't come up with the stupid 4 CBs defense tactic, Hummels would be on the fucking bench. And Germany maybe out already.

I want Mats to win the WC but I feel kinda mad when I think of Löw winning it for us.

Brazilians will get this one lol

That was such a fun game to watch as a neutral. Was it really that physical or was the ref just going off on a "card happy" bender? Can't quite remember.

Boulahrouz should've been sent off right away. And there were other instances were players of both sides should've been sent off or get booked. It didn't happen and instead cards were given for non-issues. Ref completely lost control. It was akin to the Brazil - Colombia game.

After some time we figured this out and actually laughed at every booking. Especially the shot of Deco, Bronckhorst and Boula sititng as bad kids in the corner was golden.

Marco van Basten didn't select him because of this, and it was obvious he was the missing link in his squad. We saw the likes of Materazzi and Gattuso winning a world cup at the time.

You pretty much need such a player to get far.

I am actually happy De Jong can not play any longer because of his injury.

He would have kicked the shit out of Messi which would have resulted in red card for us Dutchies.

Wasn't the German team busted years ago for practicing this?

I'd love to see a system in place where after each game, they review footage and if a player dives without being contacted (regardless of what the ref sees) they get banned for 10 games. Also, if you're on the pitch grabbing and limb and moaning for more than 30 seconds, you should be sent off for the duration of that half so you can get the medical help you so obviously require. Another player can sub in for him.

Poor Brazil.

Hummels has always been one of the best CBs in the world, which is also insane since he's 25.

No one can deny that.

twas heartwarming. After seeing 31 years of this country in conflict, we need more moments such as this.

Colombia's run was so much fun to watch. You could tell they wanted to win so badly, but you never got the sense there was any pressure when they got there. Played a tough Brazil team very well. So many good teams don't make it past the quarters, it's crazy.

I'm not sure if you live in the US currently, but a lot of people here were rooting hard for Colombia.

the Italy being divers monikers has stuck on so hard that people are blind to the reigning diving champions: The Germans.

Germany are diving kings but the moniker doesn't stick. But they have been kings of diving for over 4 decades

That video was an ad.

And regarding the video, I support it, but the diving must be really blatant. I mean, Robben PK against mexico: Not blatant. He dived, but there is contact

This is blatant (And this is my team) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOuqg6Qtb7s

He also constantly gets in the face of the shooter to try and intimidate them. :p

Although if you're properly trained for penalties you've already decided beforehand how you're going to shoot it anyway. I think CR all went for different shots than their previous Pk shootout.

Apparently Brazil are appealing Silva's yellow. Good luck with that :lol

The realisation of having to play Dante and Luiz against Germany with fullbacks who can't defend

When exactly? Every match before the 2010 WC final was boring, but rather fair.

Euro 2008, most attacking side of that tournament, shat on the wc finalists of 2006. Offday cost us the quarter final but Russia wasn't butchered.

World Cup 2006, one match against Portugal which was ridiculous but it was the exact same situation as Colombia - Brazil with an incompetent ref.

Well, WC 2010, most cards of the tournament by FAR: Holland. I doubt they were all given during the final. And then the team always has a couple of absolutely batshit insane "no fucks given" players. It's really not an unfounded reputation.

A lot of them were, as there were 9 or 10. From a total of 25.

Without that final, we were about equal with Germany, Chile and Uruguay. Chile left after the round of 16 already.

Wouldn't the hate be divided between the four remaining teams then? It seems like it's focused on one team.

Not if that one team is 1) UEFA 2) beat 1 and eliminated 2 Latin American teams, the same geographic region where most of the salt is coming from.

A lot = Everything. You heard it on GAF first.

My post said "I doubt they were all given".
Ignore the final if you wish so (not sure why it would help the argument as there wasn't a single booking in that game that wasn't deserved, but whatever), Holland still has the first spot for most cards given. They've been a "dirty" team for a while, although as I said they've cleaned up their game a lot recently.

I edited :)

I won't dispute that we had a ridiculous amount of bookings. But I can't remember those previous matches as being that harsh in particular, except for the final and perhaps the qf against Brazil.

I really hope that, just this one time, The Netherlands will go on to win the World Cup.

Brazil has won the World Cup five times, Germany three times and Argentine two times. The Netherlands? Zero.

The Dutch have done surprisingly well this World Cup and, honestly, I fear that The Netherlands 4 or 8 years from now, simply won't be as good as they are today. Why? Well, the following players will likely won't be selected 4 / 8 years from now: Van Persie, Robben, Sneijder, Kuyt, De Jong, etc. - and I haven't seen "the next Robben" yet, or something like that.

Well I'm not saying the whole team is a bunch of blood thirsty crazies either :p
Ther reputation's there, and I don't think it's all that undeserved overall.
I'm not blindly hating Holland anyway, my favourite goalie ever is dutch :p
Van der Sar FTW.

Van Gaal told 'em so and Dirk said yes. That's the gist of it.

Everyone was pulling their hairs when they saw Kuyt in the line up against Mexico, now everyone loves him again. His drive and the power he puts into a match is amazing. If anyone deserves this World cup it's him

I think that the best final in terms of great plays/goals would be Brazil vs Netherlands but I really want to see what would happen in a Brazil/Argentina final :p

Itt lots of tweens that cant remember any other wc before 2010

You know who you are

My first clear memory of a big tournament is the 2000 semi against Italy. I was almost nine at the time but I still remember my dad stepping outside to sit in the car during the penalty's :p

And then we've got van Ginkel, Strootman, Clasie, Blind, Martins Indi, van der Wiel, de Vrij, van Rhijn, Janmaat, Veltman, Wijnaldum etc. There's enough in the pipeline they will just need to keep their head grounded.
