Naughty Dog absolutely disgusting TLOU:R MP monetization

Does anyone who is calling this pay to win actually understand what pay to win means?

Also, Remastered =/= Definitive. There's more DLC maps and modes to come so wait for actual GOTY edition next year if this disgusts you so much.

Seriously. While I don't condone how they're charging for different perks, those perks themselves aren't game breaking. It seems like most people who are calling it pay to win haven't spent enough time playing to really understand the balance of the MP

Is it pay-to-have-more-playstyles?

I've never played TLOU on either console, so I can't appreciate the intricacies, but that's how it sounds. And it sounds really lame.

Edit: Nvm, I misread the info.

Regardless, I dont find it fair that new players have to pay even more to get the full experience, but I will say that they aren't significantly advantageous.

The Enforcer weapon and Silenced Auto Rifle are pretty good weapons, and I do think that having the freedom to make you own class that strengthens these weapons' usefulness is a good advantage for those who pay.

I had originally thought the Full Auto Rifle was DLC, which it's not, and I misread one of the boosters to be worse than it actually was.

I just am really fed up with day one MP games charging for guns/perks, I don't think it should ever be done, and since it's old content, it makes no sense to not include it in the Remastering.

How does Remastered =/= Definitive? Naughty Dog has repeatedly stated that TLOU Remastered is the definitive version of the game, even going as far to say the 30FPS PS3 version looked "broken" in comparison. Games like the Tomb Raider Remaster include all the DLC, so there's no reason why TLOU shouldn't. Also even the concept of a GOTY edition for TLOU is absurd since that would make it the game's third release. And if it takes three releases, in such short of a timespan, to get the definitive version of any game, then I simply can't support a practice as shitty as that.

Glad to see this thread being made. I dont think it's at all acceptable.

I can't think of ANY other game that re-releases a year later, and charges again for old content. To those saying they are inconsequential or don't matter: that's not entirely, or the point.

The perks are pretty significant as are the Enforcer sidearm and Silenced Auto Rifle power weapon.

Non-buyers lack the ability to create their own loadouts with a few features that can give a player the freedom to customize their desired playstyle.

To lock content like this is just a terrible way to grab a few more dollars from new players. It says something about the state of DLC wherein new players who pay full price must pay even more just to match the other players, right from day one.

Additionally, regardless of if there are preset loadouts, those loadouts dont have the full effect of the locked content. For example, Bomb Expert is capped at level 2 in the preset loadout. However, the Level 3 version (which you must buy to create a level 3 loadout) makes you immune to placed bombs (which plays a big part of the game).

This is a significant advantage. Players throw bomb traps (think Claymores in COD) around the map to trick players. All of a sudden, if you pay, you are immune to these bombs.

How is this not advantageous? How does it make sense to say "yeah well, there are better perks/guns available"? Regardless of how good or bad the locked content is, it is behind a paywall that shouldn't be there for old content that already exists.

Why do new players have to pay even more to get the full experience? I don't get it.

Wait what? What's this immune to all bombs thing?

I have all those DLC perks (from Season Pass) and I'd like that.

Sorry, I actually misread this line:

Bomb Expert (2 / 3 / 5)

Level 3 - You are immune to the stun of your own smoke bombs. placed bombs. thrown smoke bombs and bombs have a very short fuse.

It seems to say that placed bombs just explode a lot faster, which is much less advantageous than being immune.

This seems to be a grammatical error (from the Wiki) and should read "You are immune to the stun of your own smoke bombs. Placed bombs, thrown smoke bombs and bombs have a very short fuse."

I misread it as "You are immune to the stun of your own smoke bombs, placed bombs, thrown smoke bombs, and bombs have a very short fuse."

So, I guess it's not so bad, and they do have presets. I just feel that they could have charged for so many other cosmetic things if they wanted to cash in on the new players: more loadout slots, masks, skins, even characters (which they did in UC3 I believe)...Those are the kind of things that at least don't mess with gameplay, which should be equal to everyone, at least on launch day

I've played TLOU mp since its release. Almost played 222*7 matches + many more private matches.

The dlc weapons and perks are not worth it. Trust me, I have all weapons and perks. But I still prefer the basic weapons and perks.

And to people calling it a Pay2Win- just lol dude.

3 pages worth, the rest are hats and the individual perks/weapons ($0.99)

Ugh, I bet a lot of Sony fans are feeling jipped right now. This is some sick and twisted logic that EA tends to use and Microsoft used to use. People think they're on top, oh look what happens. They listen to their investors and not us gamers.

This is really bad from a developer like ND, consider me dissapointed and makes me rethink if I want to buy it now..

Nothing regarding gameplay should ever be locked behind a paywall. Pay for cosmetic diversity, fine with me. Pay for gameplay diversity, i get mad.

But im only rushing through MP for trophies, won't play after that anyways.

OH DEAR GOD NO. What shall I do now? use the stock weapons!?!

Seriously I don't see the big deal behind this. Maybe it's because I didn't buy any of this extra content before, but it just doesn't seem like a problem.

woah woah woah. Don't you dare say anything bad about Naughtygods or shine light on any ill practices in their games!

Quick look forza is selling upgrades ATTACK!!!!!

What's with the incredibly dismissive posts like this?

As if to say "How dare you even question or express disappointment about the existence of DLC weapons and skills."

Now that you pointed it out, this thread will definitely be used alot for quoting people if another game does something like this.

The only DLC weapon I've had used against me in ~4 hours play time is the Enforcer.

I think that it's kind of shitty that this is in the game, but it doesn't break it at all, and the multiplayer's worth your time, with or without it.

I think Gears of War 3 got it right with weapon skins and new character models included in map packs. Purely cosmetic.

You also had the opportunity to unlock a pretty massive selection through in game methods.

Semi auto rifle
Pistol
Collector
Crafter
Reviver

All you need.

Paying for this shit aint gona give you an advantage.
I not played for a year. played 5 games last night, came top all 5 times still even though I couldn't remember the controls.

Pay to win my ass. Stick together to win more like.

Yeah man! Can I get your autograph?

Everything, from the ridiculous over the top title, to the ten page thread over the presence of microtransanctions, makes this almost like a Neogaf parody thread. When people take the piss out of this forum, this is what they are referring to a T.
Indignant anger is definitely present, claims of refusing to support this vile inhumane practise, yep. Soon we will have Boogie2988 make a video so he can be "our voice to the developers". Oh, and the world will keep god damn spinning.

You guys. Seriously.
These sorts of things are in how many other games?

I understand that people are disappointed by it, and I'm not telling anyone not to be. I figured that MP related dlc likes hats were not going to cross over, so I don't find this surprising.

Its not just hats its more like the Enforecer is locked behind a pay wall and I can tell you from experience its easily the best pistol.

But I can't have a different shotgun if I don't buy from GameStop!

But yeah, "Pay 2 Win" is the video game version of using "literally" instead of "figuratively".

So is all this new DLC available in pre-set loadouts or not? If yes... why are people still losing their shit over it when it's been pointed out pages back?

This bit is important, if this is the case, these should be pointed out in the OP. We should know if a certain perk is completely behind a paywal or just not available for custom loadouts.

------
Doesn't this tip the balance:
"Level 2 - Automatically pick up ammo and supplies from kills and enemies drop double the ammo."

I'm new to it, but isn't this overpowered? Does the guy even have to come near you to pick up the ammo, for example?

"Level 3 - You are nearly impossible to hear while moving. Walk, climb and crouch walk very quickly."

Isn't this a beauty?

Are these not seriously shifting the advantage? Or are these already present in some classes?

Are people saying is absolutely disgusting actually serious?

This isn't disgusting, it's kinda shitty but not disgusting. They're not even way OP weapons and skills usually associated with P2W micros.

All dlc perks and weapons are available via pre-set loadouts. Don't see the big deal, there is nothing game breaking, as others have said they just give you different playstyles.

Its not just hats its more like the Enforecer is locked behind a pay wall and I can tell you from experience its easily the best pistol.

You can play with the enforcer by picking the onslaught loadout (free) and if you want the silenced version you take the infiltrator loadout (again free).

You only lack the ability to choose it in your custom loadouts by not having the dlc.

Both of those perks are available in the preset loadouts (onslaught and striker respectively) dlc is not required.

8 months ago these perks, hats etc. where a surprising and very cool addition for season pass owners. Now, it's scumbag practice by ND. How the times quickly change, lol. Put it a little bit in perspective people.

Extra perks and guns are nowhere near pay to win or gamebreaking, and I've played the multiplayer from day 1. You are not missing out really. It just grants some extra playstyles, almost all of my loadouts are made up of base-game perks.

PS3 season pass owners get them all on PS4 for free right?

Please for the love god stop bringing up presets. The preset abilities are only level one and the idea that using an enforcer exclusively in a preset class is okay is bloody mind boggling.

just because it's in a preset loadout, does not make it fair or ok.

I've been enjoying the MP for the most part, but now I'm starting to see players running around with these purchasable items, completely owning most others. When it's on even ground, it's fun. This kind of shit kills MP for games. I imagine the player base will be low soon for MP.

I like how nobody had a problem with it untill the Ps4 version came out.
I think that still nobody has a problem with it, but many people don't really understand it and get angry for no real reason.

Yeah. Pretty nice move, just added even more worth to the season pass for me personally. For all the hate season passes get, that's one thing ND did right. They added a lot of value to it, by making all the extra items free. (Except for the killer bundle, which I can use on PS3, but not PS4, which is weird)
