Microsoft Gamescom teaser - August 12 Xbox briefing

You really think Banjo or PD are coming back?

Gregg Mayles still being at Rare gives me a lot of hope for Banjo. I think theres also a market for Banjo is you just made it a downloadable game, it doesn't need to be some AAA $60 retail sized game.

Perfect Dark is a series I think would do really well if made properly. I think the ship has sailed on it being a regular FPS like PDZ was (and the original) and too much competition to do with a big multiplayer and all that stuff but perhaps a reboot and a new direction would be good, something a bit more stealthy

Its possible they might outsource more Rare old IPs like they did with Killer Instinct too...

Im very intrigued as to what Rare are doing now but we won't hear about it anytime soon nor do I think it would be a good idea to do so right now.

Came into this thread and see talk of PS4 games. How amusing. Can you guys keep thread on topic?
I asked a simple question because a myth is spreading and people are jumping in turning it into console warz.
Last I heard D4 was coming out this year, unless that has recently changed?

Also, if you wanna play this game, Guilty Gear Xrd is niche and is also coming to PS3, and so is LBP3.

I don't care what "game" you want to play. What is the relevance of your second sentence? I never said anything about the popularity of the fall games and I'm wondering why he's bringing up PC games on one side and dismissing it on the other side. Go read.

The whole console comparison line-up nonsense is hardly an apples-to-apples comparison.

Nintendo, Sony and MS has competitive line-ups of exclusives* ( 3rd-party, platform, console, whatever suits your exclusivity definition ) for the whole year.

Sony and Nintendo's line-up are spread out throughout the year, MS is fall-heavy. Who you think has the better line-up is down to preferences, but there's no clear obvious winner/loser. (eg. I think it's fair to say 360 was a clear loser when it comes to exclusives in 2013, and 3DS arguably is the strongest exclusives platform in 2013 )

Im very intrigued as to what Rare are doing now but we won't hear about it anytime soon nor do I think it would be a good idea to do so right now.

I agree. They need to come off the gate strong and show that Rare is still going to be a relevant force in MS's first-party, after years of serving a crowd that has moved on.

Rushing stuff is what got us Gears : Judgement and Crackdown 2, both of which was a disservice to the IP.

Potential takes time to materialise, especially if we're talking AAA games development.

Rare only recently finished KSR, and arguably, even more recently have to look themselves in the mirror and realise that the Kinect fever/crutch is dead and they're going to have to define themselves with something else.

Unless they want to do basically a CGi or logo announcement only, realistically Rare wouldn't have anything ready at this stage. Maybe next year, but this year?

I think Banjo could be a Killer Instinct like release at £30, I think plenty of people want a proper Banjo 3D platformer and it would do well, same with Conker. As for Perfect Dark well I would want it to be an FPS still, but a sci fi and stealthy/spy sort of theme. I think there is a market for that if it was styled right and had the classic inreasing objectives with difficulty setup.

Also use the Digbeth studio to do Jet Force Gemini HD , that would be a great remake to do with a decent framerate.

Pretty much guaranteed:
  • Forza Horizon 2 - probably playable, new infos, new trailer
  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection - maybe playable (H2A MP), new infos, maybe new trailer
  • Project Totem - probably playable, new infos
  • Ori and the Blind Forest - probably playable, new infos, probably new trailer
  • Sunset Overdrive - probably playable, new infos, new trailer, probably console SKU
  • Quantum Break - new infos, new trailer
  • Project Spark - probably playable, new infos
  • Dance Central Spotlight - probably playable
  • Fantasia: Music Evolved - probably playable
  • Killer Instinct Season 2 - probably playable, new infos, new trailer
  • FIFA15 - Ulimate Team/something exclusive

Maybe:

  • New Twisted Pixel game
  • Leap Experience Pioneers game

Very unlikely / no chance at all:
  • Crackdown

  • New Rare games

Also, at their conference I expect they will announce one completely new title, some kind of FIFA15 partnership/XBO bundle, some of these already leaked apps (GameArena and so on) and maybe their smaller Lift London / Platform Next Studios games (Wildfire).

Project Spark is an Xbox One game, nothing wrong about saying it isn't. I don't see where the problem is, except you coming in and bringing nothing new to the discussion (Gamescom) but instead fueling console wars. If you don't like MS or Xbox you don't have to post in this thread imo, you can do that elsewhere.

Bullshit accusations are so annoying. Stop this shit.

You're allowed to question strange statements on a forum. If you think it has something to do with console warzz, then you're looking at it from that point of view.

I already posted my speculation on their Gamescom lineup.

From what I heard, yes. I believe they also said so publicly several times. I'm super curious as to what they do after that one.

Interesting. I thought the last one was good but I'm not exactly starving for more. I wonder what they will do to make the next one fresh.

This sounds most probable, and it's quite an impressive list imo, even if most of the games were previously announced. I expect a couple of new game announcements. Not necessarily a big, AAA title, but something smaller in scope similar to Ori.

I wonder if Microsoft will talk about the update to the NFL app because it will be so much better than last year's.

"We are going to have more leagues than just NFL.com," said Jurenka. He couldn't name specific sites yet, saying that Microsoft is still "working on finalizing some deals," but assured us that once those agreements are in place, the providers in question will be supported within the app by the kickoff of the season on Sept. 4. A Microsoft representative later confirmed to Polygon that the Xbox One's ESPN app will support ESPN fantasy football for this season.

I don't know about "dreams" but the reality is xbox owners will have more than enough games to keep busy this fall.

There are so many games I want I won't have enough time to play everything, don't know how people keep coming up with these statements.

Also, don't know why people act like the console is dead. To me MS is more alive than it has ever been looking at their lineups of games.

It's called a consensus. Your opinion alone is not important.

lol

Yeah I don't know about it defining the generation. It is borrowing elements from a lot of games that came before it.

That said it being heralded as one of the best of all time is something I agree with and even more so having gone through the game again.

The mechanics are the only thing I am worried about. Alan Wake was a far cry from what Remedy achieved with the MP series.

The mechanics of AW while not as great as the MP series were quite solid IMO, controls were great and the feel of the weapons was really good...the only thing that held the game back gameplay wise was the lack of enemy variety.

I have faith in Remedy especially with the whole time freezing concept, as I said earlier this could lead into some really interesting shooting/gameplay scenarios.

I am okay with this. Btw I would put Fable Legends, Evolve and D4 into guaranteed list. And new Rare game into may be.

NFL app in a EU conference? That doesn't seem likely, since NFL is only popular in US.

Good point. Maybe they'll do one of their app walkthroughs a week or 2 before it comes out since it'll have Sunday Ticket streaming availability (not free though).

I expect an Evolve beta date announcement since that seems to be exclusive to Xbox One. Also Assassins Creed Unity will be there since Microsoft is behind that game. I am still expecting the Halo 5 beta to be teased again right after a MCC showcase.

I don't think they'll talk about apps, I'm guessing they'll do the same as their E3 conference and talk only about games.

This is their last European focused show before the console launches in September in a bunch of other European countries so at some point either before or after the briefing, I expect them to detail what apps will be available at launch for those picking it up.

Can we stop talking about the possibility of a new Banjo game...
It's making me too excited.

And I know I'll just be disappointed.

They don't have to talk about apps in the briefing, they'll have plenty of time and many opportunities (in/outside Gamescom) to talk about them. Talking only about games clearly worked for MS in E3, so I don't think they're going to change that anytime soon.

EDIT: And a new Banjo game is totally happening :p

They have some sort of Xbox One launch / info party the week after Gamescom in each of the launch countries, so I imagine that will be the venue for that. Or just an press release after or before.

One of the greatest games of all time? TLOU wasn't even the best game last year dude.

Anyway QB will probably have much better mechanics than TLOU so I think we're good.

Dude...it's this thing called an opinion. And actually, many other people view it as one of the greatest games of all time too. The general consensus (opinions vary, of course) is that TLOU is a serious contender for game of the generation. And there are many (such as myself) who consider it one of the best games ever. I know people around here hate Metacritic, but it's a good source of general consensus; TLOU is among the top 20 rated games of all time on there. And just read around a bit to see reviews and opinions...there are many who feel the same way.

Time will tell and it's obviously subjective, but it's true there is a lot of hyperbole on TLOU. There are many ads on TV for the PS4 pack, and they call it "the game that defined a whole generation" or something like that. Come on it's barely been a year, a bit early to generalize to a generation...
Sorry for the random rant, I just happened to see the ad again while reading the above message.:P

I don't agree that it's hyperbole at all. You'll find plenty of critics (Colin Moriarity from IGN is one of them) who consider it a generation-defining game. Nothing wrong with promoting that when there are many people who really do feel that way.

While I expect to really enjoy TLOU once I finally play it, I'm trying really hard to wrap my head around that concept, and failing. How can a game that came out at the tail end of a generation define it? I can see Wii Sports, Gears of War or Modern Warfare in that role, but TLOU can only be a fitting closing to a great generation, not a game that defined it.

I think your comment is total semantics. Call it 'the best game of the generation then'. That said, TLOU is indeed the generation-defining game for me, and I don't think it's relevant at all that it came at the end.

So what is this a TLOU thread now? Good game but holy shit does it have an annoying fanbase.

Someone else brought it up when they said they hope Quantum Break is MS' version of TLOU. So I inquired about what they meant, and then several people took issue with the high praise TLOU gets. Anyways, back on topic...

Quantum Break might be the game that convinces me of purcahsing the machine down the line. I am counting the days till the gamescom reveal!

Please oh PLEASE announce the Sunset Overdrive bundle so I can get a pre-order in.

Fingers crossed it's bundled with Kinect.

The mechanics are the only thing I am worried about. Alan Wake was a far cry from what Remedy achieved with the MP series.

In terms of gameplay? Perhaps, bullet time was a lot of fun, but I also found Alan Wake's gameplay very compelling. Overall, I think Alan Wake was a better game than MP2, and at least as good as MP1.

You really think Banjo or PD are coming back?

There's no doubt in my mind that they are, the only questions are when, in what form, and who will develop the games. I don't expect to see either of them at this Gamescom, however, and Conker will make a comeback before Banjo.

I asked a simple question because a myth is spreading and people are jumping in turning it into console warz.

The myth that PS4 has no games is ridiculous, yet I definitely oppose the notion that Xbox One and PS4 have comparable line-ups for the remainder of the year, both in terms of actual exclusives (so games that are not also on PC and other consoles, including last gen systems), and in terms of confirmed first party releases. I'm not talking about numbers alone either. But that's me, you are, of course, free to disagree, although I would prefer if we continued this discussion in another thread.

And now we "know" 2 more announcements through possible leaks over the last day or so..

Minecraft for XB1 - released today... much applause
XB1 now 50 Euro cheaper... more applause
