Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced Arrives August 12 (PC/XBS/PS5 - $49.99)

it's at 85% positive review on Steam.

You'd never think that with some of the commentary here.
Its either a love it or hate it type of experience. Its very impressive in areas that don't matter too much for me personally, but I can totally see why some would love it.

it's a vicious circle, upgrades are disappointing, so the console does not sell well, so the devs don't put in the effort.

Now every new major release has a worse Pro support than the last.

Worst console purchase of my gamer's life (I already owned a PS5)
It makes me wonder what the value proposition is for next gen, wirh some of the leaks that have been coming out recently for PS6/next Xbox spec. Better ray tracing while maintaining higher frames and resolution?

Nothing about the way this gen has gone overall has me foaming for new hardware without some breakthrough we're currently unaware of and even then, there's always a tradeoff between what these machines can do vs the resources allocated to a game based on its projected sales. So if next gen ends up as slightly upgraded visuals from this gen? Ummm.... yahoo I guess?

I love slow narrative short games so this should be right up my alley. However, I find everything about this game so unappealing. The dark visuals, the dark themes, the mental health stuff, etc. It all just seems like an absolute drag to play. So I'm passing on it.

So ...ps5 pro only gets PSSR but no other graphical enhancements over base consoles?

Another lame Pro update

How many games have actually utilized Cerny's "3 pillars"? As time goes on less and less games are taking good advantage of the Pros hardware advancement. Usually its just PSSR and no added Ray tracing or improved settings.

Notice the PC gets a bunch of settings increased but not one on the Pro even though theres enough overhead they could've at least improved 1 or 2 things ...

so bizarre...all the games from the last two months have had really weak Pro support. What's the point at this point? Worst console ive ever bought considering what we're getting for the price
Yeah definitely its my worst buy since I can remember .... but, I have a hint we will be able to ride this console easily until the ps6pro comes out. Ps6 specs are looking very weak and they will not make next gen only games for quite some time if ever, maybe next gen is the first gen without real "exclusive" games.

This game is probably not worth touching even for free. Shame since the first one was so good.
I would say the second part is better than first (or at least on the same level) but mostly because it is weirder, more art-house'y and more brutal, visceral and perhaps slightly less accessible because of that.

You need people like me so you can point your fucking fingers and say, 'That's the bad guy.'

76 is a good score, it's well above average.

Fwiw, Google tells me that the average score for a videogame on Metacritic is 75.

The average score for a video game on Metacritic is generally considered to be around 75, according to a gaming forum post and a blog about Metacritic.

"According to a gaming forum post" - well there you go, it must be true! lol. But presumably the author of the blog about Metacritic knows what he/she is talking about - one would hope, anyway.

Is there a lore reason why this game is a boring and short interactive movie that took almost a decade to be done?
Yes, they spent 5 years high fiving each other while scanning rocks in Iceland and making Vidoc's about how awesome they are.

This is what happens when you give the lunatics free reign to do what ever they like.

On PS5 Pro, started with the first game since I bought the Digital Deluxe. I was afraid there wasn't trophy support at first but once I was in game they finally showed up! Three PS5 Pro modes! Enhanced visuals (with or without PSSR), Highest Resolution mode (with or without PSSR) and lastly Performance mode (PSSR off only). It looks to me like Performance mode is your regular mode that I'm sure PS5 base gets. It's probably 1440p/60fps or something like that. If you have a PRO I would recommend the enhanced visuals mode. This mode seems to be a high resolution but not native 4k, with a lot of the other settings on high, running at 60fps+. I've been playing with PSSR on as it seems to give me the best look/performance. Resolution mode is okay too, you still get 60fps but you lose some of the bells and whistles at the cost of the highest native resolution. Not worth it IMO. Game looks amazing with enhanced visuals mode IMO. I mean as good as the game can look since it's dated at this point. Can't wait to dig into Hellblade 2 to see how that fares. Hopefully we get a best of both worlds visuals + peformance mode on the Pro.

Pssr should be the most basic of upgrades for Pro though. The thing is we've been getting less than basic upgrades for the last couple months from games, where they haven't been adding pssr and we're literally just getting a few frames and small res increase from DRS so now a game getting pssr seems good.

Lol its so fucked up. PC gamers have to be laughing at Pro owners by now. They'd never accept such tiny "upgrades" as we have over on console. It's really sad that pwople like you are still defending the console. 3/4 of a year later when people thought we'd be seeing real improvents yet now it's considered lucky that we get PSSR in a game.

If you and other Pro owners actually complained like I have for the last months guess what? Sony would've been forced to turn the situation around. If there was some genuine outrage dont you think the gaming media wouldve picked up on the story? Being so complacent is half of why the console is such a let down!
This is both delusional and wrong. Pro was always about put PSSR on it and call it a day because for a tiny user base no developer would put any more effort. If you bought it thinking on more dedicated development it's on you. Specially since it was widely discussed here before launch. Not even Sony promised that. They say: "hey, so the checker board thing of the last pro wasn't implemented at all, so we made something very easy: more power and an upscaler that you don't have to code for". Calling names is a baneable offence here but you really make the decision difficult.

Pssr doesn't really do a lot because of all the post processing, they should have made a 40hz mode and cranked shit up.

Agreed.

I'm a big fan of 40hz modes. Was hoping more proliferation thanks to more general VRR and 120hz display adoption but a *lot* of key games this gen have not had 40hz modes :(

it's a boring game, i enjoyed the first which was ok. but the sequel is an impressive game visually, but the game is not exciting nor the story is good, the gameplay is dull and repetitive. i expected so much more. and got a borefest.

Just gave the new update a whirl on Series X.

It's very difficult to see differences on screen cause the game image is so heavily post processed anyway. The immediately observable things are some softness and shimmering in mid/far geometry during movement that isn't there in Quality mode.

Other than that, the Performance at least, seems very smooth. I'll probably play the game in Performance mode for the new Dark Rot achievement.

Some pics. In all sets, first is Quality, second is Performance.

Sounds like Unreal 5 is getting even better.

Enhanced what? Normally companies give these tiny upgrades for free. These jackasses are charging $50?

??

The update is free for platforms where the game's already out (Xbox/Win PC/Steam)

$50 is for the new platform.

You want them to ship it for free on PS5?

No I misread OP.

Ok.

FYI, it's a free update for existing platforms. Adds Performance mode, dev commentary and a new game play mode on console and PC also gets a new 'very high' visual settings pre-set that wasn't there before.

Since it's a new release on PS5, that's where the $49.99 is for. (though I think they should have charged $39.99, since it is essentially not a new release).

It's one of those very short games right? Like Miles Morales? If the quality is good. I think $50 is okay if the full price is $70. But it's also an older game. So I can see why people would prefer $40.

Took me around 10~ hours to 100% it when it first launched. Not the longest game, if you've played the first Hellblade, around the same length.

I'm, personally, not a fan when any publisher releases a late port and charges the same price as when it first launched (looking at you Square Enix, Octopath Traveler 2 on Xbox after 2, 3 years did not need to be full price).

I'm noticing some kind of difference in the shading? I think it's been reduced/adjusted somehow for those 60fps too VS Quality mode.

That said, it doesn't seem to be a major visual shock at first glance.

Yeah, I guess there could be some difference in Lumen coverage, maybe from High to Medium.

But these are the kind of things you wouldn't notice other than side by sides, the 10~ or so minutes I played of the Performance mode, other than the softness, nothing really stood out as different to me.

I really wish they'd settled in between and did a 40hz mode with Quality mode settings too.

And people here loves Mafia Old Country while sitting at 76 on Metacritic, I don't know who to believe anymore
Dude I said it before steam reviews are as bad as metacritic user scores... if such a C tier game can be at 85% and a masterpiece, game of the generation, [maybe only GTA6 will beat it] like STARFIELD  at 50% , then it's an undeniable proof that they're not worth looking at.
