Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced Arrives August 12 (PC/XBS/PS5 - $49.99)

Yeah, assuming it's not optional.

I mean why shouldn't I use all my TV screen? What's the advantage of such a completely horizontal image, I'm not a horse.
Cinematography. Different photographic shape. Director's choice. Often used in films to showcase sprawling landscapes. They scanned Iceland for this game in person and have a few transitional helicopter panning shots in engine when going between areas.

Also can help cut down on rendering demands, but movies do this purely for aesthetics at times.

Movies don't have legibility or accessibility to deal with, and everything aside we already went from 4:3 to 16:9, how much thinner do you have to get to be cinematographic? Full chameleon?
And cutting resource usage by literally cutting the image is as cheap as it gets.

The Evil Within patched this nonsense out and the game was better for it.

So I guess you didn't want to know why and just want to complain about it.

So ...ps5 pro only gets PSSR but no other graphical enhancements over base consoles?

Another lame Pro update

How many games have actually utilized Cerny's "3 pillars"? As time goes on less and less games are taking good advantage of the Pros hardware advancement. Usually its just PSSR and no added Ray tracing or improved settings.

Notice the PC gets a bunch of settings increased but not one on the Pro even though theres enough overhead they could've at least improved 1 or 2 things ...

so bizarre...all the games from the last two months have had really weak Pro support. What's the point at this point? Worst console ive ever bought considering what we're getting for the price

Instead to be happy about MS studios finally starts to use PSSR and with an excellent implementation as expected you are only focused to find something else to complain.

Curious how it'll perform on pro.

If you go in with the right expectations for this one you'll come away very pleased.

I dropped it on launch and came back to it this year. 8/10 from me.

I lost interest after like 20 minutes

Really after the first battle

I went in totally blind because it was on game pass

Is it about being a Viking that has schizophrenia or something? Pretty cool premise tbh but I'm not huge fan of horror games despite being obsessed with horror movies

it's a vicious circle, upgrades are disappointing, so the console does not sell well, so the devs don't put in the effort.

Now every new major release has a worse Pro support than the last.

Worst console purchase of my gamer's life (I already owned a PS5)

Thank you ....this is why I was so hard on Sony around launch. This was what I was afraid of! Sony's whole approach to this console has been so weak. They should understand the importance of having strong support for this thing and making an impact early on but something waz "off" from the get go.

Its such a shame and I bet a lot of people who bought one are starting to feel burned by now.

Don't you ever get tired of making the exact same post again and again? For the love of god, sell that pro and buy a PC already.

Pssr should be the most basic of upgrades for Pro though. The thing is we've been getting less than basic upgrades for the last couple months from games, where they haven't been adding pssr and we're literally just getting a few frames and small res increase from DRS so now a game getting pssr seems good.

Lol its so fucked up. PC gamers have to be laughing at Pro owners by now. They'd never accept such tiny "upgrades" as we have over on console. It's really sad that pwople like you are still defending the console. 3/4 of a year later when people thought we'd be seeing real improvents yet now it's considered lucky that we get PSSR in a game.

If you and other Pro owners actually complained like I have for the last months guess what? Sony would've been forced to turn the situation around. If there was some genuine outrage dont you think the gaming media wouldve picked up on the story? Being so complacent is half of why the console is such a let down!

You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your fucking fingers and say, 'That's the bad guy.' So what? I make you good. You're not good, you just know how to hide

To answer your question though- Clearly, I do not

legibility or accessibility to deal with,
This game neither because there's so little gameplay and stuff you actually do... or deal with. It really is more of a movie, even more than David Cage's games and less interactive. no items to pick up, no moment to moment choices, combat is always one on one. They even reduced the already basic options in combat from the first game even further.

You'll get GTA 6 so you'll have the last laugh (for a year).

I don't know how people make it through the cringe.
By pressing the left-stick upwards and enjoying it.

Hellblade 1 is where the 'art' takes the front-seat.

And tbh, the way NT handled schizophrenia in a game and how Senua goes through her grief was executed in a genius way.

ahahahaah so fucking cringe, you really have main character complex don't you, even though you're an NPC repeating the same dialog.

Played about 30 minutes of the first one, these barely qualify as games. I don't know how people make it through the cringe.
I played about double you did. I couldnt make it past an hour. I played for somewhere between 45-60 minutes. All I know is probably half of it was unskippable cut scenes, walking around trying to find red doors and 1 or 2 fights against guys in rags.

Deleted it after that. Absolute junk. It's the kind of game a video game company would promote when releasing a new console as wow factor trailers.

I initially thought these kinds of games might sell great due to awesome graphics and audio production values alone. But both games seem to have sold crap. So looks like most gamers saw through the dog and pony show trailers and avoided them.

The first one and Order 1887 are games I don't understand why they have not been thrown into the Plus mix, yet. Full price is hard for what they are but within a sub fee, they could reach a few people. In the case of Hellblade maybe even trigger some sales for the second one.
The Order was 10$ less than 12 months after it released (and it got permanent price drop to 19.99 as well), it's console equivalent of Bioshock/Mafia games that have been peddled around for 1$ for over a decade so playing them on a rental service actually feels ... expensive.

I could have sworn HB was on Plus at some point though - maybe I imagined it.

Apparently they have a "self play mode" for dev/QA that can literally play itself. Wish, they released that too. Would free your hands for the cognac!
Given the popularity of stream plays, combined with general laziness and lack of attention spans this actually sounds like something more devs should make and release.
But yes - particularly for games like this one - having a literal 'movie mode' wouldn't be the worst thing, offer some customization parameters to the 'type' of playthrough you want(Whiny Senua, silent Senua, screaming twitch Senua, TikTok impression video Senua...) to watch and just kick back.

Ok for the record I'm trademarking all of the above.

Death Stranding basically.

I watched the 1st one on YT. If you remove most of the puzzle parts and fights, it's actually an Ok movie with a decent story.
I haven't had patience to watch the 2nd movie yet.

Holy fuck, that's depressing, you could blow the doors off with a fraction of that budget and the right people.

Shows you that a lot of this industry is just a buddy club.
Ninja Theory was never a top-tier studio though.

And they probably spent an insane amount of time and money on animations, as that's where NT shines.

I think people are underestimating how much time it takes to make amazing animations, especially at the level of a game like Hellblade. And the motion-capture alone probably costs a shit ton of money already.

Anyway, just beat the first 'boss fight'.
Graphics are good, but since we're almost 5 years into thos gen there isn't a wow-factor anymore.

Combat feels grounded, but basic. So I guess it's the same as the original. I like it though. Still think HB has one of the most realistic combat in any game to date.

I ike it, but it's easy to see why most gamers don't.
