Twitch: Changes To Audio In VODS

Just saw this, thought it was apropos:

They literally JUST implemented this feature across their entire back catalog of content - and are now dealing with the reality of what it is and isn't flagging. This is the equivalent of the dentist taking the drill out of the bag, realizing he's got the wrong bit affixed - then having the patient sprint out of the room because "Who dares fuck something that simple up?" despite not knowing the first goddamn thing about dentistry.

Most likely, we'll see a reality similar to the current state of YouTube's ContentID. Which is by no means good - it's still a massive pain in the ass, and can flag content incorrectly. But the appeals process is streamlined enough that most content creators can manage. And since Twitch isn't even challenging live broadcasts (where streamers make the lion's share of revenue), this shouldn't be as large an issue in the long term.

You have no idea what you are talking about!

Removing content would be the same as the dentist drilling the wrong tooth, just because only a short time has passed does not mean that they have not fucked up yet!

P.S
ContentID is still fucking awful.

I guess that's what happens when no one fucking goes to court about the fair use / derivative work thing. We've had the same discussion earlier this year with YouTube's Content ID changes. So either go to court, use another service, or stop complaining altogether.

UH UH NO NO NO

YOU CANT PLAY FAVORITES.

THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS BABY.

NO BIAS BULLSHIT

Twitch already did this. Big time streamers got resources while the smaller peasants were fed scraps.

At least I don't buffer forever on medium..can watch source on my PC!!!

Always could watch source on my phone (1080) over wifi same network but never on my PC...was weird. Would constantly buffer..though since G bought it..I have never buffered.

With YT I could watch it in HD, download 10mb/s down in steam AND be downloading in my browser just fine. Twitch before G bought it? Only tab open..buffffferrrr forever.

The announcement earlier I could defend, and did so.

This? It's a little harder. If it works, I think it sucks but I understand it. "Working" means having individual artists/musicians say they don't want their music in VODs and then the automated systems works 99.9% of the time.

The way it is now is a joke.

Sounds like youtube thing all over again. Seems like they didn't do much in the way of tweaking.

Until Twitch has The Google Algorithm Magicians on board... it's worse than that, I'd like to think.
Them muting a Charity video is downright appalling.

Audible Magic has an incredibly robust library of music to pull from including classic video game music. No one has any idea the extent of their library so this is troubling with how some people are defending this.

I would love to be a fly on the wall at the twitch offices right now. I want to see their reactions to the backlash.

They have a one billion deal on the table, all they care is for PR to manage the crisis until the sale proceeds and they get the cash, then it is google's problem.

I have a feeling if everyone spammed "R E M O V E G O O G L E" it wouldn't do much to help :P

I don't think twitch is big enough to get away with BS like this. Ustream or something else will take over

Ever been to a really crazy party full of people that don't give a fuck about what's happening around them?

What will cause people to switch is not just fuckups, but superior quality. Quality standards have to be met and
all hitbox has to do is to add emoticons
.

I think so too. The streaming community could definitely start shifting over to a different service if things at Twitch get as bad as it looks like they're going to.

Shouldn't Google Play Music be banned next?

I blast my music on it at work from a cloud stream and everyone in my office can hear it. None of them own any of those songs either. Its all death metal.

I mean, none of those Death Metal artists gave my co-workers permission to listen to my music, even though I'm shoving it down their ear drums.

In unrelated news, twitch has removed it approval of net neutrality. They are ALL for slow and fast lanes now.

This thing is definitely not fully worked out. I have two different videos where I was messing around with Rogue Legacy. One is muted partially and another isn't. Same for Organ Trail. But a full playthrough of Dragon's Keep for C64 is a-ok. So weird.

I don't mind moving stuff to YT, but I still don't know how it works there, either.

What's sad is seeing public domain music caught by the thing (Which has happened, I've seen it).

Going to be fun seeing Twitch respond to this mess.

I agree. Their main draws are specific individuals (who are pissed off) who have a following and tournaments, who could easily switch somewhere else because people seek out those streams.

Have the next Starladder or whatever LoL event on another streaming site and what is twitch gonna do?

They rarely respond to controversy. Remember the whole furry boyfriend emoticon and bannings and the likes?

It took what...weeks for them to do anything and I don't remember much resolution to it, and this was after they basically denied it for the longest time.

Gamespot already posted a story about it. It's hitting major game sites; this isn't a speedrun-exclusive drama horse.

This is really shitty, but all the people saying this is it for Twitch and the writing on the wall and stuff...

this is hardly the first time twitch has done something monumentally stupid, and imo hardly the worst.

Remember the incident with the global mod Horror? Or the time they kept banning people with face cams?

This should kill twitch. But it won't.

Twitch put out a very good statement that cleared up the full issue. They admitted fault and removed Horror http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1r64e8/apology_official_twitch_response_to_controversy/
