Twitch is like YouTube. Not very good, but everyone uses it so we're stuck. Too bad own3d was ran by scammers.

There goes my dream of having a twitch channel where I played Audiosurf 2 through entire gaming soundtracks... already had one done and archived...

Really stupid how they rolled this out.. ugh

Thank god... I hate people who play music on top of the game audio on top of them trying to talk over both.

It's a free benefit to streamers to keep them DMCA compliant! Yay! Free!!

You see, these draconian measures are actually here to help you and your stream become even better!

Thank god... I hate people who play music on top of the game audio on top of them trying to talk over both.

Too bad that their content matching is flagging simple in-game music as well.

Cosmowright sounds like he wants to switch to Hitbox.

If he and some fighting game streamers switch I'll have no reason to browse Twitch.

For real, if this does eventually hit livestreams then SaltyBet is ultra dead. All they do is play licensed music.

There's no reason why they wouldn't target livestreams eventually. The technology for ContentIDing livestreams already exists.

I'm sure Twitch can't really hear our complaints over the cha-ching sound of a billion dollars.

SPOILER: The last of Us spoilers!

Was watching some of her past broadcasts.

Half an hour in one of the best parts, just muted.

Terrible. And I don't even know why.

lol - she got hit for in game audio (in a game with almost no music). there is nothing she can do about that.

Not only that, but twitch streams aren't really live. They come with a sizable delay. That's more than enough time for a system to see if licensed music is playing, and muting the channel.

Yep. You can get copyright strikes on your account for it if I'm not mistaken.

And once you get copyright strikes, you can't fight them, they can't be removed, and there's no one to complain to/negotiate with because contacting Google is like trying to break a wall with your head. Once your account get's into "bad standing", it's done for.

I dont think thats like youtube. The content on twitch is more "mobile", especially after they will delete VODs. Youtube has a history of videos, a legacy, twitch is just live streams now. If the streamers move to somewhere else the people will follow.

Do people honestly expect Twitch not to do this? Having copyright music on VoDs is completely illegal.

The only thing I have a problem with is Twitch should have announced this before implementation so people would have time to backup their favorite VoDs

you can bypass the mute while you are in the mute part doing a double SPACE. it pause and resume with sound.

It worked for that one but that trick doesn't seem to work for all, I've tried a couple. Nothing in these TLOU scenes in the red seem to have any music either. Simply amazing.

Well that's real crappy, I wasn't aware it could happen with Youtube livestreams :/ but, it does make sense that it does work.

About time actually. Although it's good they aren't doing it to the live streams, and anyway, no one watches VODs on Twitch because the player is awful.

Umm it's not just copyright music. Even the ingame music is getting streamers VOD's muted. Twitch didn't think this shit out.

-> Invest a massive sum in acquisition.

-> Immediately begin devaluing said acquisition by angering the large, established userbase with huge, destabilising changes.

Did you know that you could have muted those streams yourself (or not watched them at all) before this change was put in place? This whole time you suffered for nothing.

I go and watch VOD's of my favorite streamers in case I missed them. I watched Comos VOD when he got WR in Oot. This is troubling and it sucks. It's only a matter of time this is implemented in Livestreams

It's not about value, it's about buying the competition.

When you have a monopoly on internet streaming/video, doesn't matter what your reputation is.

This in no way helps either the viewer or the broadcaster, it only helps cover Twitch/YouTube's ass against any copyright claims. Now that YouTube owns Twitch, its clear why they are implementing these draconian changes because YouTube already has massive contracts signed to keep the music industry happy.

There is no point to this, as no one is losing money when a broadcaster streams and happens to have music playing in the background. It doesn't help that games like GTA will get hit with it, even when its a legitimate source. No one is watching a broadcaster, hearing their music and going "jee, I'll pirate that!"

Bro if you bought a Metallica CD and you want to play it while you are playing a game like Minecraft or other game that does not have a good OST, why is illegal? So if you play Brutal Legend on stream they will mute the vod because BL is full of copyrighted music... I think is not illegal play music on the background, because you are not pirating it, selling it, or anything else...

Its amazing how heavily they are pushing youtube on the blog and comments, its like they are not even pretending to know about the google rumor

Really got to worry about this site

Sometimes you don't want to make a subsidiary better, sometimes you just want to get rid of competition.

There is no way for copyright holders to flag music as cleared for streaming, nor even deal with claims on anything other than a case by case basis. Necessary or not, the implementation is draconian and poorly thought out with no attempt to work out licensing deals or provide flexible tools for developers and rights holders.

Time to migrate to other alternatives. Locking content either by region or on the basis of copyright infringement is extremely annoying. It makes me really mad each time I try watch a YouTube video and I get greeted with the message "This video is not available in your country"
