real question, how many people here actually care about the Halo story for Halo 5?

I'm prob in the minority, but I honestly only care about how the multiplayer will turn out. The single player is fun and all, but it's honestly an afterthought to the mutliplayer. If the mutliplayer is garbage...then the entire game to me means absolutely nothing.

Yeah majority care equally if not more about the story as the multiplayer. I am one where the story is my first priority when I get the game and after I beat the game I will go onto multiplayer.

The final beep seems to be replaced with a swooping sound though it seems like it's meant to happen with each respawn (happened on all but the second respawn).

I just replayed the video. Second death bloop is really quiet but it's there.

I love multiplayer to death, but I want a fantastic story too. Hell, I kind of what an amazing story more than a perfect MP experience.

Halo 3 styled Invisible barriers were fine with me. Matchmaking games, it prevented anyone from leaving the level, whether by accident or to cheat. In Forge, it gave new spaces to create, as the death barriers were usually a good distance beyond the Invisible barriers. Standoff, Sandtrap, Valhalla, Highground are names off the top of my head that had fun custom games with custom maps outside the levels. A lot of levels just had cool small "hidden rooms" you could manage by getting outside the invisible barrier.

With a soft kill zone (10 second barrier), it allows for more maneuverability in vehicles, and in certain cases, your spartan. It also prevents anyone from cheating, by getting outside levels and into hidden/exploitive spots, as their is no way to survive this barrier. But then I look at the Forge and custom game aspect of it, and you can no longer create those maps that benefited form the extra space above the levels, because you have a 10 second kill zone in place, so you are always forced inside the map with no exploring outside, which may seem like a nitpick, but it did add many hours of entertainment back in Halo 3's days.

Either way, Im honestly fine with both. I'd prefer Halo 3 styled again, but I wont really think twice if it doesn't happen.

This is well said. To add a little to this, I'd be fine with soft kill zones for matchmaking, and have them disabled for customs/Forge.

Or better yet, give us some low-level options to play with soft ceilings as objects. The "push away pls no go here kthx" physics are already kinda there in one-way shields.

real question, how many people here actually care about the Halo story for Halo 5?

I care more about the story than the multiplayer definitely. I want 343 to make Halo one of the better told stories within video games again. There are some fixes to do along the way, but the story itself isn't so bad that it cannot be fixed. The bad characters like Palmer need to either go through some major character development or be killed off, and Sergeant Johnson either needs his own AI modeled after him or maybe an explanation on how he was able to survive during the events of 3 against Guilty Spark.

Regardless, the Halo universe is still very much fascinating.

With that said, I do want the Halo multiplayer to be good as well. The Halo story gets me to buy the Halo games, while the Halo multiplayer gets me to continue playing the games for hours and hours.

Maybe it's just me but I have never considered this as an issue in any game ever. Seriously, do people think they can just roam around forever in a multiplayer match? There's nothing worse than playing a map where people can sit outside the shooting zone and kill everyone from outside the match.

Same here. Halo 4's story wasn't that bad. Sure their characters lacked but the story itself wasn't that bad at all. I actually kind of wanna see where they go with Chief, Cortana, the flood, precursors, etc. It will be interesting to see if they can manage to build off what Bungie seeded and do it in a manner fitting of Bungie's legacy.

Nah, I don't consider it an issue in multi. I'm just staying it'd be fun to dick around in the outer boundaries of multi maps in customs like in Halo 2.

Multiplayer is way more important to me. I care about how the story turns out, and I have opinions and preferences about where they take it, but ultimately I'll only play it a few times, whereas I'll spend hundreds of hours in multiplayer.

Ok that's it, this discussion is officially off limits. You guys are all out bounds.

Honestly after Halo 4 and the last couple books, especially the Forerunner ones, the story is basically not even a factor for me at all. It's basically fanfiction in-between missions as far as I'm concerned. I'm totally up for a cool campaign with fun encounters and cool environments, but I just don't give a shit about the story anymore. I used to be super into the whole canon and story deal, reading all the books and comics and such, but my interest just totally fell off in the last few years.

Have they shown any Halo 1 MP at all yet? I know it's not being remastered, but it won't feel real to me until I actually see it being played.

Ok, I just saw this gameplay from H2A: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTptJT4binY

And it makes me both mad, and happy. Happy becouse it looks good and it plays well. But, it doesn't really stay true to Halo 2. It looks too much like Halo 4, still, since E3. They said its a new engine and such, but, it looks so much like Halo 4.
All these medals are ridiculous. Hit markers ? A medal for a kill ? A medal for an Assist ? A black double kill medal ? Its just not Halo 2... I don't know man, but it keeps me up at night.*

*Reember where thats from, and I will give you a virtual cookie.

The smaller sizes of the medals felt good in the gameplay I've watched so far. I hope there is a sort order to what is displayed in the carnage report summary, medal wise e.g. Double kill shouldn't override a running riot etc.

The guy playing is terrible. lol He misses many opportunities for easy kills and then dual-wields but only shoots one at a time, etc.

Yeah.... I'll be sticking with OG Halo 2 for the majority of my time with the MCC.

In my mind Cheifs still on the Dawn adrift in space.

Change the medals back to old school medals and please get rid of the "plasma kill" medal, you should only get a medal if you stick your opponent. I prefer a smaller list of medals in opposition to say 4s over abundant medal list, (beam rifle kill, fuel rod cannon kill? Come on) hopefully they do not carry the trend over to 5.

But so far everything is looking promising.

I have little care about the story. Too generic for my liking and the gameplay never really deviates from the core formula, which I don't like. I didn't finish Halo 4. The only way I can tolerate it is if I'm doing co-op, which is always fun.

That said, I'm really only interested in multiplayer.

Should we expect more we haven't yet seen or is that it from Gamescon this week?

The skybox on Ascension is absolutely mind melting when seen from underneath the maps structure.

It's one of the few games where the Story means as much to me as the gameplay. But, I'm also invested enough to have all the books, most of the graphic novels as well as Halo Legends and Forward unto dawn on Bluray too. One of the best, fully realised, universes for a series in a long time.

In it mostly for the multiplayer now. Halo 4 was utter shit from a storytelling perspective from the game, I'm not holding my breath for Halo 5. Already, half the stuff I read in HaloGAF about what's happening in the world is from random comics, novels, or toy descriptions others have posted.

For me, the fight was finished with Halo 3. Halo 4 really had nothing to offer me, by the end, I was just playing through campaign to finish it, get it over with, same goes for Spartan Ops. I'm excited to see how Nightfall turns out, but I hope that the story for Halo 5 is self-contained, I shouldn't need external sources to know what's going on, like I had to for Halo 4.

Campaign comes first for me. Shitty Halo campaign = shitty Halo game.

MP is also important but I prefer campaign.

I think that's it for gamescom, ranking system reveal, halo channel news, halo 5 beta some details and a new halo 2 anniversary map

70% campaign
30% mp

Well said, because this is exactly how I feel as well. But still, I hope Halo 5 has a good campaign with awesome levels, well written characters and a good story.

Edit: Also, please no more QTE...

Oh yeah, I mean I was mostly talking about the "story" of the campaign, as opposed to the actual campaign and level design. I think that is very, very important. You can have the best story in the world and no one would remember it if the gameplay sucked and was boring to play. I hope the levels are designed much better, not as linear, no QTE or enemy wave waits/button prompts, and that enemy encounters are improved. Here's hoping they knock it out of the park for sound/audio as well.

I mostly care about the campaign. I don't even need multiplayer, it's just a nice bonus.

...What?! I mean why are we out here, in this canyon?

I wish these medals would replace the ones in the H2A playlist. Those Halo 4 ones are so small, visually unappealing and hard to differentiate.

I will never understand why the perfection medal wasn't in 4.

Also those medals look amazing and are easily identifiable to any Halo fan, bring them back.

I only care about Halo for the campaign, the multiplayer is just the cherry on top. I'd buy a Halo without multiplayer...i kinda did with ODST, which was awesome.

Give me a shit multiplayer *cough* haloreachand4 *cough* and I'll be alright. Give me a shit single player, and I am dissapointed, mad, and just turn into a very hateful person. IIRC, single player takes up the majority of dev time, so when that is a dissapointment, the entire game might as well be a dissapointment. Halo has such a huge story, that even if I knew Halo 5 will have a very bad multiplayer, I would still be excited for the story.

Good single player over good multiplayer in my book.

I love the story as much as I love multiplayer.

Halo 4 story was was pretty solid but the multiplayer suffered a lot IMO.

I am hoping with Halo 5 we get all out awesome for both,

I know it's possible and 343i have it in them to do it!
