I hope these protests continue (peacefully) to force the conversation. We need to talk about oppression and the subjugation of our citizens. The pressure is bubbling the lid.

Yes but bear in mind that the U.S media has... issues regarding race and talking about it. I wouldn't put it above Fox or CNN attempting to downplay what's the root of this.

I doubt it. My point is they are no better or worse then some of the other outlets at the moment, as they were utterly not concerned about this story the previous night.

Speaking towards the police response here but it seems like 9/11 changed so many things.

I guess Waco and Ruby Ridge happened before then where the police used disproportional amounts of force but there was a bunch of criticism and repercussions from those incidents. I'm hoping the same happens here.

That's one way to put it, yeah. I agree on Fox, unsure on CNN, but everyone else seems pretty steamed.

We can go back and forth on this all day long. Not a single media outlet will be 100% accurate. Anon's track rate is right at every other media outlet in the US.

They are all there, they just aren't covering anything. Primarily the footage I saw last night was from already existing livestreams on MSNBC. Even after that, CNN and FOXNews really didn't give much information out.

It's called apathy and as another poster said, it's indeed incredibly dangerous.

To put it in perspective, talking with some friends of mine who, like me, are rightfully incredulous about these events taking place, is writing letters to lawmakers seriously the only thing we can do besides posting about it on GAF and talking about it among our peers?

There has to be something else. This should not be happening anywhere in 2014, let alone a place that stylizes as home of the free.

I feel the same. I don't know what to believe when it comes to this situation especially with Anonymous being pretty inaccurate when it comes to information. All I'm certain of is this sickening feeling I have from this entire situation.

They aren't media! They're a loosely affiliated group of script kiddies grabbing at any and all information they think will get them attention or followers and throwing it up on the internet like a fat kid on a tilt-a-whirl and whatever information vomit we get from them will be just as useful as actual vomit.

Because of the fact that anyone searching for facts can be wrong or right. The sad thing is, Anon is better at getting the fact than most of us journalist are because they did deep. We journalist have to trust the words of strangers who can be liars. Documents that are tucked away usually spread the truth and that's the reason they're tucked away.

They're not the ones I'm really looking to for coverage on this, though. That's the thing. That raw video of the cops tear gassing Al-Jazeera USA will probably get a ton of play everywhere else, though.

And CNN/Fox aren't going to break a story from there, it's going to be someone from USA Today/Washington Post/etc that's there on the ground.

I gave NBC the benefit of the doubt for their coverage last night, but Fox is going to be Fox and the fact CNN didn't touch on it until much later on in the night, greatly lowers my expectations for their quality of coverage.

To me the only sources worth looking at in this case are eyewitness accounts, NeoGAF for getting info fast, and to a lesser extent CBC, CTV, Global and BBC World News.

Al-Jazeera was actually on location, and they got tear-gassed for their efforts.
