It's going to be REALLY difficult to prosecute this cop since there is no dash cam footage. Basically going to be his word over a dead man, and we all know how jury's vote with a cops testimony.

Why is there no dash cam footage? Or did it happen away from the camera?

There's at least 3 eye witnesses saying the same thing. Not just a "dead man's" account.

The whole "don't go for my gun" thing these cops pull is bullshit. Most cops wear tension holsters that an untrained citizen like Mike Brown wouldn't easily be able to figure out. I'm not saying its impossible but it's unlikely.

As someone who has had someone else "go" for their gun, I can understand why this would be worrying, but by shooting someone multiple times in the back a few yards away, you've pretty well demonstrated that they didn't actually get your gun.

I'm looking forward to an explanation of that by Wilson or his attorneys. Just bizarre to me how the whole sequence went down, from the first contact with Brown to the discharge.

Theres a bunch of eye witnesses.

The credibility of the most important eye-witness will be a challenge the the prosecution will have to address, of course. He is the only witness as far as I know that saw the beginning of the altercation, and he would appear to have good incentive to withhold information that may be open him up to criminal prosecution. Rest assured, this is a fairly common hurdle that prosecutors have to deal with, but it certainly complicates things.

Much respect to those protesters who stood up to the looters. It's not always easy to take a stand for what's right.

What would lead him to crimincal prosecution? As I understand it, only Mike had taken the cigarillos from the store whereas Dorian returned them. He didn't help Mike either, he just stood by much like the other patrons of the store. According to the police report (I've only read a summary) there is nothing incriminating Dorian either unless you count jaywalking.

Dude fucking fleed the scene his buddies in the department assisted. The tweet in question raised an interested point and is far from idiotic.

You serious? After what is sure to be a mountain of threats against him and his family?

Or were you hoping for some mob justice?

Why is there no dash cam footage? Or did it happen away from the camera?

I simply don't believe they were installed in the officer's vehicle.

Things like COPS and yt and whatnot make us all think that dashcams are standard equipment in all police cruisers. Maybe for larger departments, but I doubt a small suburban one is going to have them on every car.

So the cop shot him in the back?

What's up with that?
Who shoots an unarmed man as he is running away?
The cop was either blind with rage or he made the cynical decision that shooting Brown dead after that first shot would be better for him than leaving him alive. Easier for the cop to justify the use of lethal force when the recipient of it is dead.

assuming the autopsy corroborates the 3 witnesses-the multiple gun shots with exits in the chest AND back, and the distance between the officer and the body, imho, all the officer testimony will accomplish is to get a reduced charge or reduced time.

watch the female's video, either of them. they are very compelling. I don't put a tremendous amount of stock in the friends interview, but the two ladies, particularly...tiffany mitchell seems trustworthy to me.

Only a page since I went to sleep? I guess that's a good sign, means the situation had been uneventful

So how has the media done the right thing, showed the good protestors and all the other interviews from last night?

In a quick survey of headlines on major media websites this morning, I found them to be about 80% inaccurate or misleading.

Relative to one another:

CNN: A
Fox News: F
ABC News: F
CBS News: D
NBC News: C+
USA Today: B
NY Times: B
LA Times: C

ABC News showing a picture of looters and overlaying the word protestors on it is particularly infuriating.

Who are just lying untrustworthy n-words. Trust me that 1776 mentality still applies. Whites do not view blacks as equals, period.

Shit, it feels like we've fucking regressed as a society if this is the case.

1 white male = 4 black people? That's worse than 3/5ths now!

Every cop should have 2-3 camera's on them. The technology is there, they are using it to police the general public, it should be used to police the folks who protect us.

We have 4 witnesses if you count the real time twitter user. I suspect there may be more, and we'll get that testimony once the FBI canvas goes through the neighborhood (begining today). It's important to note that the Ferguson PD hasn't done this at all- even though its supposedly their job. I hope the Dpt. of Justice takes this case over comepletely. Its true that they can only take over an investigation when there is suspected racial motivation to the crime, but I would contend that the foot dragging by Ferguson PD in the course of this investigation is racially motivated. If Cpt. Johnson had been on the force and shot a white kid, and we had 4 white eyewitnesses, Cpt. Johnson would be in jail right now.

It's pretty disappointing how the articles about last night present themselves

Why can't they use pictures of the protestors protecting the stores or marching in the streets, but instead use pictures of the looters?

I know emotions are high but I really don't like such broad generalizations. It's not period in America and I don't believe it's period in Ferguson.

In a perfect world, the whole story would be told

In general that's true. Especially subconciously. Hell, many blacks don't see THEMSLEVES as equal to whites subconciously. CNN's redux of the "doll test" proves this for both whites and blacks.

I've never fired a gun in my life but ibdoubt its easy to shoot a dudes legs as he's walking/running away. He can't just keep firing until he hits. Plus even if he does hit he could still hit a major artery.

He should have just not fired at all and not been a complete bastard.

Even aiming for center mass is difficult and dangerous. There was a stray bullet from this incident found in a house.

And I really don't like police brutality, income inequality, the need for affirmative action, discriminatory hiring practices, the glass ceiling for minorities, stop n frisk, white flight, the lack of empathy for blacks in general, the private prison industry, disparities in arrest sentencing and conviction rates, the irrational fear most whites have of black people etc... Catch my drift? America doesn't know how to act and is drunk on stupid when it comes to black people, period. Whitey's gonna white unfortunately.

I have over 3 decades of anecdotal experience interacting with and hearing white people speak and study upon infinite study back up the pervasiveness of racist thinking and racist actions from the majority.

It's starting to be told, through that live stream like last night, through forums likes this. Through social media.

Totally. The thing is, these days it seems harder to trust sources without photos and videos. I hadn't had time to watch alot of live coverage but just checked out the video on cnn from last night. It just reminded me of when the riots in oakland happened during occupy and after oscar grant. Looting foot locker and breaking the windows of local businesses doesn't help the protest at all.
It was good to see the real people of ferguson stand to protect the stores.

I hope people learn from this that main stream media is a tool to be used against the general public. They are posting complete horseshit to make the protesters look like criminals.

Main stream media does whatever gets the best headlines that includes picking on the general public and anyone who fires a gun.

More like, if it's black, attack.

You could look at it that way but also at least this story gets coverage. Most people have at least heard about it. There was a white guy shot and killed by police in a pretty similar situation in Salt Lake City on Monday and nobody has a clue about it. I did see a thread here though, its buried on page 5.

Like I said last night... Having protest in the middle of the night is just stupid. All you're doing is asking for assholes to take advantage of the stores being closed while you're having having a peaceful protest.

The protesters have nothing to do with the looters. This mentality is an extension of the 1 black individual is representative of the whole group.

If all the protesters went home at night, people would probably still loot. And the media would still call the looters protesters.

To anyone that watched the press conference the other day...

Police chief bring sup this robbery/battery thing. Later reveals the officer involved wasn't stopping Brown for anything related to that.

Did he reveal that the stop was non-releated himself, or was it revealed after someone asked a question?

I believe he said something to the effect of, the cop stopped Brown for walking in the middle of the street, then saw some of the stuff he had on him and made the connection to the reported robbery.

Would that explain the timeline of cop stopping them, then driving forward.. then coming back to confront Brown?

Also, there's no need for someone on GAF to call all white people racist. Completely 100% unfair, and there's really just no place for that kind of stuff here.

Good on the protesters for protecting the businesses... it's the damn out-of-towners and opportunists at it again who take advantage of these situations... bunch of scum bags... they did the same crap with some of the occupy movements too.
