Anyone wish Harry Potter wasn't british?

And here I thought Harry Potter was set in Australia. It's a shame they don't speak American. Would have made for a better movie if they did, plus they wouldn't even need magic because we have guns in the US.

This has to be a troll, right guys?

Anyways, Op may have to wait 10-20 years but there will be a remake eventually and that may as well be set in the US.

They did get lucky with Emma Watson though.

Maybe from a looks standpoint. But her performances in some of those movies was pretty bad.

Most characters use the most middle class British imaginable. Now if they had a northern accent or something I could understand, but come on. Who struggles to understand that type of English.

I would also love to see Hag-whateverhisnameis be all; "Wot da foock! 'Arry, you cheeky, facking cunt."

So. More proper british.

Yes! omg. I always wished he was Chinese instead. It could take inspiration from chinese mythology, then the more modern stuff could be like a John Woo movie

Imagine how much better if the final battle at
Hogwarts
was like this, with Ron and Hermione blowing death eaters apart. They could have even come full circle and gotten John Woo to direct the movie adaptation.

I'm sure you yanks will do a version where he's American. Like you did with Sherlock Holmes in that CBS show Elementary.

And it will be rubbish.

Edit:

Reading that wikipedia page, I guess he just relocated to Manhattan, he wasn't actually American. So that's a bad example :p

Growing up, I loved harry potter well the first 3 movies. Young me had a hard time following the movies because I had a hard time understanding British accent. None the less, i still became interested in the series and really liked it but que the 4th? movie ..where the british really started to bother me. As the actors aged, their British became more apparent/ more confusing to me D: ..maybe their acting got worse or something <.> but I digress, the jokes, dialogs became more and more unfunny and confusing all because the actors started using heavy british accents and such. thats when I started falling out with the movies all together. =/

maybe if Harry potter was american, i would of liked it/understood it

( btw I do love british shows like game of thrones, etc )

I blame the acting

All those of you who constantly wonder why the US TV and film industry insist on remaking things that are already in the English language for the US market, this is why.

Meet the boy who lived. A young child whose parents were killed at a gun show when he was just a baby, growing was hard for Larry Potter. Living with his aunt and uncle, Paula and Vinny Dursano on Long Island, he was constantly bullied by his family, his classmates and his Bible class teacher. Not even the refreshing taste of an ice-cold Pepsi Max could lift young Larry's spirits...

But on his 11th birthday, everything changed. Larry receives a tweet on his Apple iPad Air from Hogvard University, inviting him to study magic non-blasphemous superpowers and become a true wizard special person. Meeting new friends like Ron Weasolowitz and Harmony Granger, and new enemies like Biff McSnakeface, Larry is going to need all the help he can get to make through his first year at Hogvard.

Along the way, many perils await Larry, Ron and Harmony. Can they protect the Constitution's Stone from the devious Professor Barack? What terrors lie in the Chamber of the National Security Agency? Will they survive the class trip to Ferguson? Find out this summer in:

LARRY POTTER AND THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

OP what accent do you have? Do you have trouble with other American accents too?

I don't think most people have trouble understanding basic accents. The only foreign film in English I struggled with was Trainspotting.

Actually I prefer to have English subtitles on British movies where the accent is a bit "thick", then again English isn't my native language in the first place.

It's just an accent different from yours. He's speaking the same language as you, you'll eventually get it. If you think Harry Potter is tough to understand, I'd hate to see you watch Trainspotting.

On another note, the American version of Quidditch, Quodpot, is awesome because it's basically hot potato combined with basketball.

Your English doesn't seem to be the best so this doesn't surprise me.

...I had no trouble understanding these movies.
