Eh, it's only sensitivos who are making it a VS thing. People are frustrated, stop making it about you.

As a white guy, I'm pretty sick and tried of white people getting all prissy about getting called out.

"As a white guy"...

Fuck off with this. This doesn't give you any credibility.

Well this thread is now about how everyone feels about an MS paint bingo card. Good job.

This is pretty much America in a nutshell, divert focus away from the actual issue, sweep it under the rug until another incident happens. Wash and repeat for another 50 years.

Things are totes getting better! Progress!

I haven't posted in this thread at all, or saw anything else involving this tragedy worth my commentary. However, I wanted to come in and say that I'm absolutely offended at that race baiting bingo card. How would MLK feel about this?

Is there really anything to be gained by promoting the "it's us VS. Them" message?

You and a few others are the ones making it into an us vs. them thing and interpreting it as a personal attack while demanding that your personal comfort takes precedence in a discussion that should make you uncomfortable. This is not a boo hoo statement; this is me telling you that your sensitivity is near unimportant in the greater scheme of pointing out injustices towards blacks at the hands of white America.

it's the same fucking thing as #notallmen

sure, not all white people are espousing those opinions, but when you hear shit like that you can be pretty damn sure it's coming out of a white person's mouth

Exactly. I'm so fucking sick of this shit. It's never going to stop.

1) White privilege is the premise that people with white skin are more privileged for being white.

2) No one believes that all white people think the same, which incidentally rolls back to the premise of white privilege. Many black people know what it's like for people to judge their entire race based on the mistakes of a few (and it will more often be mistakes). Skip work and it's not "Mike is lazy," it's "black people are lazy." Take money and it's not "Tyler is a thief," it's "black people are criminals." It constantly happens, and many of us are cognizant of that in our daily lives.

White people, on the other hand are judged as individuals. A Tumblr bingo card doesn't approach the level of trying to change that, and that won't change. Obviously there are individuals that will judge all white people for the actions of the few, but the fact of the matter is white people hold the advantage here, by far. We've already seen the media conflate the rioters with peaceful protesters as we've read this thread. White people will (most likely) never be judged in this manner. It's non-issue, and I can't see how you guys believe that you're being lumped in just because you're white. By and large, you never have been, and today really isn't any different.

3) This is a huge tangent.

Thank you.

By editing it you just filled up like 2-3 squares bruh.

1. The card is generalizing with the statement "White Opinions". That sentence means that if you're white, you should have said opinion. Kind of counter-productive.

2. Black people in here are being dismissive of white people's feelings because a) Black people have heard those things countless times (They are very common white opinions, but not opinions that all white people have) and because we have faced such tragic and ubiquitous racial injustice -- I assume some feel like white people getting upset about this card is like a person complaining about a splinter to a guy with 10 stab wounds.

As a black man I do not like that the card says "White Opinions". I do not like how dismissive people are of those who are against the card. This isn't a pissing contest though. It's not fair to people supporting us during this time to be dismissive of their feelings.

Can we all agree that the card can be seen as inflammatory and move on?

Good for you, but tbh if it doesn't apply to any white people who feel as so why should they even be pressed?

Totally agree.

I still love you Foxy! I'm just saying.

For those who don't want the bingo card to say "white": How do you effectively target the issue if you're ignoring one of the biggest facets of it? Just pointing at some non-white group and saying "but they're racist, too. why single us out?" does not in any way explain the everyday actions of institutions like police departments.

Yup totally. Because using white as a synonym for racist is totally good way to address race relations. PROGRESS!

Thugs, this isn't what your ancestors fought for. Stop making this about race if he was resisting arrest. Only animals remark about weaves, so stereotypical. I have a dream that it doesn't matter if you're black, white, hispanic, green, purple, blue, clear, etc.: you don't know the facts! A white guy was killed by the cops the other day, but I don't ~~~believe~~~ in race. Not all cops are just doing their jobs. Did I tell you about the rioters? Simple: don't break the law. Savages all need to come together because you are part of the problem. Nobody knows what happens with black-on-black crime. Two wrongs don't make a right! We all know that this kind of behavior is inherent in urban youth.

First of all, nobody is prepared to fight and die for cigs. Cigars, cigarillos, whatever. Nobody. So I can't really see it being significant. The officer didn't know about it anyway, and it seems to me to be too huge a stretch to say that Brown panicked and provoked the officer out of fear of retribution over something so small

MechaX said:
That video may be tangentially related, but people are letting it overshadow the real issue at stake here

Let's not beat about the bush here; Brown acted like a thug in that robbery video, which might give us a clue as to how he reacted to the officer. However, I totally agree that his killing appears to be completely unjustified and if so, I hope it will at least result in some change.

Also, there is a reason why polygraphs are typically not admissible in court.

Yes, but, if either of them freely agreed to take a lie detector test, it might at least strengthen their testimony.

It's was a stupid derail, and I'm moving on. I just hate when others presume to tell anyone how they should feel.
Like I said above, let's not make this about us (white dudes). Besides, at the end of the day a funny bingo card isn't going to make a cop stopping us any more dangerous. It isn't even a thing ya know?

Come on man. This thread has been going on for days. The discussion is bound to branch off into mini discussions, but it has gone back to the main story every time.

I'm just going to assume the people upset about the bingo card (lol) have said one or more of the statements on it.

Yeah, this shit right here.
My wife is white and deals with this kind of shit on her facebook all day and she stands up and does good and then just gets this shit thrown up in her face and then "u mad cuz u sed this stuff."

Yeah.

Again someone please make a case for the officer's misconduct being motivated by racial prejudice. Because based on the evidence thus far there is zero evidence that what transpired between the officer and the victim had anything to do with skin color. If the victim was white and there was abuse of force this would be a non-story.

You know I try to put myself in the position of a non racist white person and can kinda see how it can be frustrating for your opinions to be worth less to people because of your privilege. Yeah it's not the hardship most of us minorities face but it still not right. I kinda feel ashamed to admit that lately on threads with a racial overtone I've actually felt the need to make a disclaimer that I'm not white so my opinions would have some weight and not be immediately dismissed. I don't like this derail but the fact that some people refuse to find a common ground really bothers me. Also you can be bothered by more than one thing at once.

Yep, total corroboration of witness accounts. Why haven't they released the autopsy results or number of service weapon casings collected, etc.

I think the time-stamped completely corroborated twitter account was the final nail in the coffin for the "black people are just sticking together to stick it to the po-po" excuse. It's eery how he and his friends cover literally every point of dispute.

I believe you missed the last space, 0/10

anyway is there really nothing going on right now to the point where this card is the main point of discussion

Let's be consistent though. Generalizations = bad, regardless of race and our biases. As a test, try swapping out the subject of the #notall with any other group, then similarly swap out for the subject of the "not all" in your second sentence.

I think they are still in the preliminary stages of evidence gathering. You know, stuff like what the officer could have seen or thought that will justify the shooting of a surrendering black dude. My guess is they are trying to lock that down first.

If you think that Ferguson is just about Mike Brown you haven't been paying attention.

Minorities don't face the hardship of having their opinions being worth less because of the color of their skin? Pretty sure America was built on this concept.

It'll be hard to dispute those tweets

When has "justice" ever prevailed though? Black folks have been told for YEARS to rise above it, forgive, blah blah blah, and the shit continues. I don't blame anyone for acting out. I just hope they understand that your life is forfeit when they already won't hesitate to kill you when you are doing nothing.

Why do u think successful black people leave the poor areas they start from?

Its not just racial. Theres so much more to it

Good for you, but tbh if it doesn't apply to any white people who feel as so why should they even be pressed?

It's called empathy. The ability to step into someone else's shoes. I'd be extremely annoyed if someone posted a pic of a bingo card that said "Black opinions" and had a bunch of ignorant stuff that I've actually heard black people say -- and then a bunch of white people dog pile on it in support, and say things like "So true" and "If it doesn't apply to you what's the matter?" or some other bull ish.

I've never been more pissed and heated than I was this week about this whole situation. I physically get ill when things like this come up. I don't talk to people around me about this stuff because they see how angry I get. Honestly it's scary. But as angry as I am. As upset as I am at how pervasive racism and prejudice is ... I don't want to start treating white people like we've been treated. I don't want to be dismissive. Yes the card is a splinter. Yes we have 10 stab wounds. But let's not be dismissive. Nothing good every comes from being dismissive.
