Owners of both consoles: Does Xbone OS makes you prefer it over PS4?

The big questions I ask myself when looking for a console OS, are first, "Is the OS exciting?", and second, "How alive does the OS feel?", and finally, "How much TV thing is there?"
Mine does this also which means we either have faulty consoles or something is up.

I love the OS. Love the voice commands (except for 'xbox on', hardly works). However, every once in a blue moon it lags. If I hit a bunch of buttons or move the joystick around, those movements all save up, and suddenly - like a rubberband snapping - they all happen in rapid fire succession. Then my menus are flying all over the place.
Beyond that, me loves it.

Well for me when debating on which one to use as my primary console, I'm looking for the total package. Since the game performance difference wasn't as pronounced as I was expecting going into this generation, at least for the games I've played on both so far, I think it's reasonable to look at those things.

I feel like most people are confusing the U.I. with the OS. These are two different things. If we are discussing the operating system at its core, then the Xbox One's O.S. is completely rubbish. It's slow, it's bloated, it's microsoft. If we are talking about the U.I., then one can prefer one over the other. Ideally, you want your O.S to: have a small footprint, be fast, manage system resources well.

It'll be ok, man. PS4 has a lot of advantages over the XB1. It's just that the OS and "that TV thing" aren't amongst them.

A few minor things could really elevate the ps4s OS for me. Like Notifications when a friend signs on, a better party chat codex (the difference between the quality of voice on the xb1 vs ps4 is drastic imo), if I have to scroll a long vertical list at least make it so the games don't have to cache and load the icon that's insanely annoying isn't this os leveraging a ton of RAM why is this happening. I'd also like if they cleaned up the what's new section make it look similar to the friends section now on the Xbox.
Finally, If I want to save a video make it not take me out of the game, it's so annoying to be taken to a seperate screen to have to click save video and being taken out of the experience.

Xbox One UI is way better, have more features and more responsiveness. Also, after launch, with the multiple patches/updates, all is good on the OS and everything works as expected, although there's some performance issues here and there.
PS4 OS is faulty (share is still buggy, many features promised for launch still not available) and UI is simplistic and somewhat poor.
If you disregard the horsepower, Xbox One > PS4.
I actually only (will) use the PS4 for single player exclusive games, as my friends are on the Bone and achievements and more pleasant user experience. PS4 is collecting dust, unfortunately.

It's true, no notifications and it's lame. But the feature is obviously coming and the ironic part is that on PS4 I'm still able to jump out of a game to the home screen and get to my friends list to see who is online and then jump back to my game with a double tap of the PS button faster than it takes to pull up my friends list on XB1.
Granted that was closer to launch when I played with the XB1. It very well could be faster now after all the updates but it took a few seconds to pull up my friends list and have it load. Just a testament to how fast the PS4 UI is I guess.

I have both systems and user the Xbox One almost exclusively. It seemed like a gimmick at first, but the fact that I run my TV through it, plus all the app, plus more of my friends have XB1, means i feel connected when i'm using it.
Switch over to the PS4 seems isolated and actually feels like a chore. If i'm using my XB1 i never have to change the input. I can do pretty much whatever I want while staying connected to what my friends are doing.
Also, MS has done a far better job making the DVR a integral part of the experience. The fact that all of our clips are uploaded to the cloud automatically so I can browse my friends clips with out them even needed to share anything is amazing. Not to mention the Upload channel that is constantly getting new or featured user content.
It sounds like straight up marking BS, but what MS is doing with the OS really does make you feel like you're constantly plugged in to a larger community of friends and players.

Xbone pin system is nice, right to the games without fighting with the OS. PS4s is okay for now but as I buy more games they are gonna need to do a folder system or something.

I'm OK with boring. Win7 is boring compared to win8 but I much prefer 7. What I'm not ok with is boring AND having no features, which is what the PS4 OS is now.
PS4 is so behind on features it's like comparing the ps2 to the 360.

The Xbox OS is incredibly clumsy and irritating. There's been huge improvements in general (and it's getting closer to overtaking PS4 - maybe after the September update) but it's still hamstrung by the tiles interface which makes it awkward to use.
PS4 OS is simple,and that's what you need really. Oh and it tells me when my controller's battery is low, who'd have thought that'd be useful?

Relative to the xbone, not featureless in some absolute meaning of the word.
Obviously it has some features. But compared to the xbone it's bare bones. Sony is making matters worse by not doing anything about it. MS has rushed to copy and match a bunch of the good things Sony has done. Sony should be matching the monthly updates MS is doing.
Funny coming from an arsenal supporter. Arsenal is quite boring. Finish in 4th place all the time and gets eliminated in the round of 16 in champions league. One might have thought you like boring things.

It is noticeably more snappier. Overall I think I'm just a big fan of the TV integration that Xbox One has. Something as minor as changing inputs has become almost a chore for me with the PS4. Suspend/Resume is also a huge plus when coupled with that.

No, I'm the opposite and prefer the OS on PS4.
The XB1 OS is laggier and buggy, so much so I have given up naming tuning setups and messaging fellow racers on Forza 5 as examples. I don't use the TV features however so if you are one of those that do I can see why you might prefer the XB1.
Yup that's pretty awesome. You'd think it would be an obvious feature for Sony since they pushed preloading first, but without other changes first it would just add to the infinite line of apps that IS the ps4 os.
Which goes back to the heart of the matter. Sony you suck at supporting your hardware!

The PS4 UI is simple, fast and effective, and gets me into playing my games fast which is all I care about.
I'm sure Sony will improve it further like they did with the PS3.
The Xbox One UI is decent but is clearly designed with other media in mind, which is good if you actually use it for that.

I think that M$ is really onto something in regards to a unified user experience. I'm completely enchanted by my WP/Win 8/Xbone combo

I think xb1 OS has a little bit of a learning curve to it but it is far more efficient and extremely feature rich. However it does seem to get bogged down at times.
PS4 is definitely quicker and more straight-forward but it lacks a lot of the functionality of the xbox and it isn't setup very well to handle an influx of new apps and games.
Depending on what you are looking for in a console I can definitely see how one can prefer one over the other.
One thing I love about the xbox is the latest Smartglass update that treats your activity feed like Facebook and allows you to like, comment, and share all your Xbox related stuff. I think the key to the xbox experience is having a decent group of gaming freinds to share it with you.

I hate that everything is a separate app and that the OS doesn't just flow like the PS4 where you can get details about friends online by just selecting it and a preview will appear, so you don't always have to go into the added layer.

We have gigabit and some downloads will use it. 10 MB/s is not that high for a download.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of eye rolling over this, but it is exactly how I feel when I'm on these consoles. I know it's vague and feely, but it sums it up nicely.
It's really nice to get notifications and invites while watching TV.
Are you in the preview program? those tend to be laggy and buggy. It's a preview
I LOVE the fact that is uploaded automatically while you are playing the game. Say "Xbox record that" and after couple of minutes is up there on the activity feed.
vs. 0 on the PS4.
