Ferguson: Police Officer Kills 18yo Michael Brown; Protests/Riots Continue

In other news, let's just dismantle Ferguson completely. Cut it into pieces and let the surrounding cities absorb it.
St. Louis has massive jurisdictional problems due to the city being incorporated separately.

I know that the altercation at the convenience store is irrelevant to the shooting, but I keep having discussions with people who love to bring it up. Clearly it has worked as a strategy to malign the reputation of Mike Brown and it's infuriating. Can anyone link me to something that actually says what happened in the store?

Wikipedia sums up most of it. I would add that the value of the box of Swisher Sweets he stole was $48.99.

What's the status on whether or not the robbery even happened?
Dorian Johnson said he was there when it happened. Hard to dispute that.

So the following letter got printed in today (the 22nd of the 8th month of 2014) in the News Tribune.

FERGUSON: Media are misportraying the facts said:
Reporting on Ferguson, the media repeat the words "unarmed black teenager" and "white policeman" as if there were no other appropriate descriptions of the two.
Photos of Michael Brown show a baby-faced kid rather than a 6-foot-4, 300 pound man posing like a gangster. Video of Brown robbing a store and assaulting a concerned citizen is dismissed as irrelevant and decried as incendiary. Looters and rioters are referred to as "protesters."
The media have consistently portrayed the shooting as a racist travesty. Black Americans are victimized by systemic racism virtually every day of their lives, and police are often the perpetrators of that racism, but this liberal has yet to see any evidence that Brown was the innocent victim of a racist policeman.
GREGG EVANS
Tacoma.

I realize that this is just some dude writing a letter in to the news paper so his opinion doesn't mean jack, but it still makes me sad that people around where I live think like this at all.

Heh, this lovely Gregg Evans is a self-avowed liberal. Sure.

That's a lot of hate that he refuses to acknowledge he holds.

Look at page 17. Same complaint number as what the ACLU received.
No, it's not. The complaint number released by the ACLU is 14-12391. The complaint number beginning on page 17 of that package is 14-12390.

It makes sense that the sick call would be the incident immediately prior to the shooting incident.

I'm not shocked by him saying that, but this image bothers me because it makes the Professor look like he's at a loss for words and doesn't know what to say... even defeated.

When in actuality he is so quick on his feet in that interview he turns it right back at O'Riley and says that Bill looks like a cocaine USER. It was fantastic.

This image just makes Marc Lamont Hill look weak, when he clearly wasn't.
That's boss of him to say, someone really does need to edit it w/ Marc's response.

I'm okay with this considering

Jury of your peers should break down like that. Should never just be a jury of your black peers or jury of your white peers.
Well shouldn't it really be more like:

3 Black, 7 White, 1 Latino and 1 Asian?

I mean, who's accounting for the missing 8%?

People being political nothings are why this sort of shit is able to happen. You don't have to pick a team or any of that bullshit, but be involved, and care about shit.

They're not saying they're not involved; they're saying they'd rather do such as an apolitical. I agree with that viewpoint. Throwing heaps of partisan political attacking and bashing/plugging into these things just clutters up the message. Both sides are phucked up, but in very different ways.

This is why I am a political nothing. I don't identify myself as a liberal or conservative or independent. It's all a stupid game when politics gets involved.

Who said I don't care about shit? I just don't care about the left vs. right dog and pony show that is American politics. I haven't picked a team because politics is based on bullshit and deception. That doesn't mean I don't care about what is going on in America or the world. This shit is able to happen because these things, such as injustice, violence, and all the things that make people feel depressed in this world has happened since the beginning of civilization and will continue to happen because history likes to repeat itself. So please don't make me a scapegoat.

Apologies, not apathetic, just fatalistic. Look,'the both sides are shit I hate everyone in politics' and 'it will never change' is not useful. The only way to change shit is the political process in some shape. Whether that be rallies to pressure politicians, whether that be voting and encouraging other people to vote, it's all politics.

But since nothing will ever get better, why bother, right?

I'm not blaming YOU for anything, but I am blaming fatalistic or apathetic attitudes.

Edit: Look, I'm just a grumpy old man yelling at clouds, sorry if I was too harsh but the 'both sides are equally bad' false equivalency and the apathy/fatalism just shit me.

Independent is a partisan label now?

... how the fuck do you expect them to stop if you are not involved?

More cops being suspended

At least all the crazies are coming out due to all of this. I think we are up to 3 cops being suspended

Mother of god

• "I personally believe in Jesus Christ as my lord savior, but I'm also a killer. I’ve killed a lot. And if I need to, I'll kill a whole bunch more. If you don't want to get killed, don't show up in front of me, it's that simple. I have no problem with it. God did not raise me to be a coward," he said before warning the audience that he believes the government will put kids in indoctrination camps.

• "I'm into diversity. I kill everybody, I don't care."

THATS WHAT THE DON LEMON COP SAID!

The other cop that was suspended

Pappert says the "protestors should have been put down like rabid dogs the first night."

I am not fatalistic nor am I apathetic. I am cautiously optimistic. I am not of the type to lie to myself and blindly think things can only get better because I know things can also become worse. It's an age old struggle in trying to make the world a better place or trying to do what you think is right and I see no problem with that.

... how the fuck do you expect them to stop if you are not involved?

What are you talking about? Why are you jumping to conclusions on what I do or don't do? All I said was that I do not favor or pledge allegiance to a particular political group. To me political nothing = do not favor or pledge allegiance to a particular political group. That doesn't mean I can't get involved.

I love how "unarmed black teen" is somehow misrepresenting the situation.

I also love how all of his talking points are regurgitated from the slimiest conservative bullshit.

Instead of being mad that an unarmed kid was gunned down, he's doing everything he can do to get that "real story" out there, and it's disgusting...

But it's nothing new!

This just happened. Capt. Johnson suddenly shows up on Rebelutionary_Z's stream out of nowhere, after Rebelutionary_Z just finished talking to the lady at the voter registration booth about how Capt. Johnson said the media were instigating the protests.

Awkward moment

Non-Profit Run by a Missouri Police Union Is Now Handling Fundraising for Darren Wilson

One of the people involved is this guy:

Missouri legislator pushed to have names of police in officer involved shootings kept secret

State Representative Jeff Roorda-D Barnhart introduced a bill in the Missouri Legislature to keep the name of police officers who shoot someone in the line of duty a secret.
Roorda said he introduced the bill in 2009 out of safety concerns for police officers.
“Releasing a name could put someone in grave jeopardy,” Roorda said.
Roorda is also the business manager of the St. Louis Police Officers’ Association. The bill would have prevented the public from obtaining any records and documents involving police shootings if those documents contained the name of the officer who pulled the trigger.

...

I've never seen an organization do so much wrong with such an intense level of audacity before. The only thing we should be surprised about is that there wasn't a Mike Brown situation in this town years earlier.

See...

You guys say "This corruption!"..and I laugh..

My wife works side by side with cops, shes a community organizer, her boss married the "head" detective..
I worked for the Courts and Sheriffs Dept. for 10 years (not a cop lol)
My ex-best buddy was a steroid ingesting Corrections Officer who's dad was a Warden for a big prison here in Jersey(another topic but "law" related)

None of this stuff sounds unreal to me..the stories I heard/hear would make your head spin.

That what's so crazy. A friend and I were talking about that this morning with the whole incident report.

It's not only that they're doing what they're doing, it's that the entire time thet've had this, "We don't give a fuck, we're the Police!" attitude about it.

-Officers without badges/identifying details
-The Police Chief himself
-Training weapons on peaceful protestors
-Arrests and abuse of the press
-Arrests and abuse on peaceful protestors
-Empty incident report
-Releasing the convenience store footage
-More I'm probably forgetting

The way they've handled this entire situation is fucking clown shoes embarassing, and they just don't care. They've made it completely and totally clear that they're doing everything they possibly can to protect Wilson, and aren't even bothering to try to clean up their reputation. It's as if they already know by virtue of being who they are, they'll garner an immense amount of support, facts be damned.

Oh wait, they do know that.

I guess this is the end result of being unchallenged and conditioned to corruption for so long. They don't know how to control themselves when a fuckup that's to big to coverup rolls along.

I hope the FBI and DoJ's investigation tears them apart and spurs a nationwide investigation on corruption in law enforcement, because even if Ferguson PD had its head put on a pike it would only be a bandaid solution to a much bigger problem at large.

Basically the minute I saw him drop the word gangster I knew his argument meant nothing. But really, I mean, what part of unarmed black teen isn't true? Michael Brown was black, a teen, and unarmed.

How long do they keep bodycam recordings, like if I got a speeding ticket, Does it stay in the police 'dossier' on me forever? Can police now look up and view any previous videos of you, while they check your license and registration back at their car? I know in this kinda case it would be good to have a recording. But I'm still uneasy about them.

Why the hell is there even a fundraiser in the first place?

Probably a defense fund figuring he will get indicted or the fact that no matter what comes out he will never be able to work in that department again after all the publicity and will have a hard time finding a new job.
