Ferguson: Police Officer Kills 18yo Michael Brown; Protests/Riots Continue

I like that in this thread we are pretending that Ferguson PD and Albuquerque PD are exceptions. NY, LA, and Chicago are not indicative of any kind of trend.

I'll say it again, the mission statement of a police force is what creates the conditions for abuse and brutality. The police exist to protect the lives and property of the wealthy from the poor masses. That can only result in what we see happening in Ferguson and NYC. These PDs aren't the exception. They're the rule.

#NotAllPDs

I would say I'm waiting for someone to defend this, but this is NeoGAF, so of course someone will be willing to defend it.

It's disgusting, but not surprising, considering the Ferguson PD's conduct through this whole situation. True public servants, they are.

They did contact the county police right away to take over the investigation so they aren't investigating one of their own officers. But there should be more info on that report unless nothing gets filed once they turn over the investigation.

I'm not shocked by him saying that, but this image bothers me because it makes the Professor look like he's at a loss for words and doesn't know what to say... even defeated.

When in actuality he is so quick on his feet in that interview he turns it right back at O'Riley and says that Bill looks like a cocaine USER. It was fantastic.

This image just makes Marc Lamont Hill look weak, when he clearly wasn't.

You will never convince Americans of this. You should know that we're taught a completely falsified history based on the myth that our noble justice system always does the right thing in the end. And, the American system of justice is perfectly defined to reinforce that hope while at the same time, staunchly reinforcing the status quo. Americans will never stand up and defend themselves because they are under the delusion that some court somewhere will eventually come to their rescue.

My main point is that we have almost a century worth of cases that shows that police won't be prosecuted for murder even when there is overwhelming evidence. There may be a few exceptions, but the overwhelming majority of killers go free. Video evidence isn't going to change that much.

You're saying it wont change much, but it will change something. That something may be an officer not killing a person due to being filmed. Rialto California is where officers are wearing cameras:
Use of force by police officers declined 60% in first year since introduction of cameras in Rialto, Calif.

Outside of an all out race riot war, there isn't much novel you two are suggesting in the thread. Its been proven to reduce crime, and promote better policing. Now, for PD's that are completely out of control. Ferguson/NM, clearly, they need to be removed from their positions. Just as any nation would fire police. Our problem in our country is that the majority of your cases aren't really based on overwhelming evidence, but based on the narrative from the police department that americans are likely to believe via a jury.

There will be less trials, with less police abuse. Save for the extreme cases. Don't you see that less trials mean less people needing to get off or consider evidence?
Because people are alive.

I didn't literally mean 100% of the problems with police. I should have said 58.64%.

God, I can't stand conservatives. I was chatting with a "friend" about this and he goes on about the rioting and looting, and of course the riots needed to put it down with force, how people can't give into the mob mentality and they need to let the law do its job, how it's all Sharpton's and Obama's and all the race baiters' faults for the situation getting out of hand

"But...the protests were mostly peaceful"

"The people were rioting, what do you expect to the police to do? Talk nicely to them?"

I gave up there

This is why I am a political nothing. I don't identify myself as a liberal or conservative or independent. It's all a stupid game when politics gets involved.

That's the robbery report.

They were kind enough to tag on the report of the shooting at the end (but they're totally not meant to look like they're related guys... honest!).

Looking at that I still can't tell what happened to the EMS. It looks like they were called at 12:04 told to stage away from the scene 90 minutes later but never actually arrived.

Why was the body loaded into a police SUV when an ambulance was nearby that could have taken it to the morgue?

I'm confused. Someone said earlier there wouldn't be a police report from Ferguson because it wasn't their case but the county's. Am I missing something?

That was me. NBC quoted the chief of police from Ferguson. They said that there wasn't an incident report from the Ferguson PD.

Edit: My mistake, it was from the prosecutor:

Police in Ferguson, Missouri, did not file an “incident report” on the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Michael Brown because they turned the case over to St. Louis County police almost immediately, the county prosecutor’s office tells NBC News.

Critics and news media outlets have questioned why Ferguson police released an incident report from a robbery in which Brown was a suspect, as well as security video showing the robbery, but not the report on the shooting of the unarmed 18-year-old a short time later by Officer Darren Wilson.

The reason, according to the office of St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert P. McCulloch, is that it doesn’t exist.

The Ferguson PD wouldn't be expected to write an investigation report if it's not their case but an Incident report, especially after a shooting, is a standard procedure. I can't think of any instance where an officer would be involved with shooting anyone, criminal assailant to innocent bystander, and not make an official statement about the encounter and be required to file an incident report. A report would usually help an officer in case like this which makes its absence even more confusing.

Perhaps the officer wouldn't make a statement if he immediately realized he was in the wrong and viewed any version that he composed as contrary to his best interests, effectively remaining silent. If I think I'm fucked either way, I would probably do the same and not go on record with my side and let my attorney take care of that later.

It will be interesting to see what procedures were followed or not followed here and see what the implications are.

Grand jury in Michael Brown case: 3 black members, 9 white

CLAYTON • The grand jury that is hearing evidence in the Michael Brown shooting death has one black man and two black women on the panel, and six white men and three white women.

The Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday that the grand jury had three black people, but the gender information is new. The gender information was supplied by Paul Fox, director of judicial administration for St. Louis County Circuit Court.

Fox said Judge Carolyn Whittington has scheduled a hearing for Monday morning on a request to release more details about the makeup of the grand jury, including age and hometown or zip code.

The demographics roughly reflect the racial breakdown of St. Louis County's population, which is about 24 percent black and about 68 percent white.

The grand jury's term began in May, long before Brown was shot. Its term was set to end in early September, but will likely be extended so the same grand jury can continue to hear evidence in the Brown shooting case, which may last into October, according to St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert P. McCulloch.

Bloomberg News requested demographic information about the grand jury, and Whittington stated that the demographic information should be available. The Post-Dispatch told Fox that the age and either the zip code or municipality of the members of the jury should also be made public. The judge scheduled a hearing for Monday on that request.

I'm okay with this considering

Jury of your peers should break down like that. Should never just be a jury of your black peers or jury of your white peers.

Welp. Surely those white and blacks interact often so understand eachothers cultures and viewpoints. I'm sure they live in equally diverse cities. Where there is no concentration of one group vs the other. I'm also sure they are all of the same or relative class, as well as political awareness, education, and religious beliefs.

All in all, I'm sure they are both of the same social class/group. Aka, peers.

That's because Ferguson had those five fucking days of not releasing his name to completely wipe his internet persona. Or does no one else find it unusual that we have no pics of this dude and that a 28 year old somehow has absolutely no social media presence?

I saw his Facebook post from July 19 disappear. He posted on the LEO USA webpage "where did you get your badge?". People were posting their names, pictures of their badges, and the Dept they were with. I'm assuming badge number was included. It was gone, and Google "lost" the cached page, even though it still came up in searches. Who scrubbed what, I don't know. But someone did something.

I just happened to google it after the 'rumored' name was released.

Is someone watching CNN right now? They got a video of the St. Louis officer (I think officer go fuck yourself) and he's saying a HUGE amount of crazy things involving Obama, hate crimes, affirmative action, anti-homosexual, and misogyny.

No, it's apparently a different cop that was on crowd control.

Damn, I missed it. I'd love to see a video if one pops up.

No it's a different officer. Glad, they're relieving officers. It truly shows what the residents of Ferguson had been dealing with. Now they need to expose the National Guard member that CNN encountered with earlier on.

I haven't seen it but he must be pretty mad that his Fox News audition tape got leaked so early.

I know that the altercation at the convenience store is irrelevant to the shooting, but I keep having discussions with people who love to bring it up. Clearly it has worked as a strategy to malign the reputation of Mike Brown and it's infuriating. Can anyone link me to something that actually says what happened in the store?

Naw, bruh. It looks like he ready to smack the tatse out his mouth.

I mean, this is such a fucking pisspoor coverup. Its like they actively don't understand have the internet works. Good for us I suppose.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...down-three-warrants-a-year-per-household.html

FERGUSON FEEDS OFF THE POOR: THREE WARRANTS A YEAR PER HOUSEHOLD said:
A report issued just last week by the nonprofit lawyer’s group ArchCity Defenders notes that in the court’s 36 three-hour sessions in 2013, it handled 12,108 cases and 24,532 warrants. That is an average of 1.5 cases and three warrants per Ferguson household. Fines and court fees for the year in this city of just 21,000 people totaled $2,635,400.

The sum made the municipal court the city’s second-biggest source of revenue. It also almost certainly was a major factor in the antagonism between the police and the citizenry preceding the tragedy that resulted when Wilson had another encounter with a subject six months after he got his commendation.

And any complete investigation into how Michael Brown came to be sprawled dead in the street with a half-dozen bullet wounds must consider not just the cop but the system he served, a system whose primary components include a minor court that generates major money, much of it from poor and working people.

In other news, let's just dismantle Ferguson completely. Cut it into pieces and let the surrounding cities absorb it.
