Halo: The Master Chief Collection - Lockout 1080p/60fps footage

With Halo 2 ranking system for all games!!

No one talks about how good Halo CE anniversary will look. It was a better looking game then Halo 3. Now it will be 1080p 60fps.

Is anyone else worried that it might be a little to jarring to move from a Halo 2 game to a Halo 4 game with all the different mechanics?

Steam is selling all the call of duty's for $199 on sale. This just goes to show what a great deal the Master Chief collection will be.

see its not nostalgia though.

Halo 1 and 2 are literally the best FPS games that have come out since their release. Nothing has surpassed them since.
In your mind perhaps, I just can't get down with the hip fire across the map like it's the 90's again.

History already showed they were not the best since release. They absolutely raised the bar though, which encouraged other devs to come out with more impactful, and guess what.. Those games raised the bar as well... The bar will always have to be raised.

I'm actually not sure if I'm a fan of this.

I feel like I'm the only person who remembers that the Halo 2 ranking system, while definitely having some perks, had a few kinks that needed to be worked out of the system. It's definitely better than the Halo Reach/Halo 4/Call of Duty "here's a shiny medal for playing the game for so long" system, but it wasn't perfect.

Well, to be fair there are at least ten call of duty games that I can think of compared to the four games included in this collection.

It wasn't perfect because of the cheaters and the account buyers/derankers. The former is solved since PS4 and XBO have not been compromised yet but the latter will always be a problem in any game because people suck.

Well I just remember that there were some things within the logic of the system I found puzzling or just not too well thought out. Like I remember that one bad loss could undue the progress multiple solid wins provided. Being the best performing guy on the losing team seemed like it was worse than being one of the worst guys on the winning team, etc. I'm fuzzy on some of my old knowledge of Halo 2's ranking system (because really, it's been a while) but I just remember some head scratching parts of that system.

It had issues that stemmed beyond cheaters/standby

aside from putting way more emphasis on winning, what was wrong with it?

Which it should be. 50s shouldn't be given out like candy the way Halo 3 did it.

Halo 1 and 2 came out in the 0's.

So I want to make the Halo Master Chief Collection my main multiplayer game for a long time due to how much content we're getting, however I've only ever played Halo 3 MP out of the games included in the collection.

Will the MP be easy for me to get into, despite the fact I could be jumping from Halo 1 MP to Halo 4 MP back to Halo 2 MP within 3 matches? And will the ranking system cover all 4 games, or will there be individual ranks for each game?

Like I said in my previous response, I just didn't like how one loss felt like it could erase the progress of multiple wins or how being the MVP of the losing team hurt more than helped your ranking.

I'll still take Halo 2's system over any of its replacements though.

For team based games, it definitely should be a team based ranking system. Individual performance shouldn't count at all in my opinion. One for all and all for one. Play as a team, win as a team.

I disagree.

We've seen nothing but stunted growth in the FPS genre since 2004. Sure things have advanced on a technical standpoint but every game has turned into the same boring run-n-gun casual fest. All games which ones had a unique identity merged into one ball of mediocrity. Halo, CoD, BF, ect...

And on your hipfire point, I dont see how you can claim that as a negative... How is the ADS, auto-aim lock-on garbage we have in shooters today an improvement? I mean just look at CS:GO, by far the best FPS out right now and the core gameplay created over a decade ago.

That footage in the OP was so good. I don't think I can contain my excitement for this much longer, November really can't come soon enough.

Never really cared much for Lockout. But I am ok with it.

So between BTB and regular sized maps, whats the split on the 6 maps now? I was hoping 3 and 3 but I am guessing its 4 and 2?

Still one unannounced map, but the current breakdown goes:

Small: Lockdown, Sanctuary

Medium: Acension, Zanzibar

Large: Coagulation

Still room for one more BTB map.

Yes but it was better because it rewarded winning teams and didn't just throw out points to players. Teamwork is awesome in halo 2 with incentive to win.

Problem with the bolded is that stats don't necessarily tell the entire story. For example, I could go 5-7 but our team wins, and throughout that match I could have been the eyes holding down a key position, allowing for good spawns for my teammates as I watched Rocket spawn, etc.. Sure, the best guy on the losing team could go 10-3, but that doesn't mean he played better than the guy on the winning team who went 5-7.

And for that reason is why I'm hoping that 343 does a better job at point distribution. There's always been an underlying mentality many gamers fall into that they need to post up the best stats in order for other people to consider them good, but very few are aware that that's not necessarily the case; successful pro gamers sometimes talk about this when discussing roles on a team.

PvZ Garden Warfare is a great example of point distribution IMO. You can place high on the postgame report even if you don't have the most kills. For example, the Sunflower can easily place at number 1 because of how many points you can earn from healing/reviving people. Titanfall also does a good job at making players who aren't only kill junkies place well by doing other things, like in Attrition.

Dat 1080p/60fps footage...its freaking beautiful.

Halo 2 is the only Halo game Ive owned, yeah Im all over this.

Considering they remade the assets, they look a bit so-so and the baked-in shadows should really be a lot cleaner.

I like Lockout as much as anyone, but hasn't it been in every Halo game since Halo 2? And what's more, there's TWO versions of Lockout in this collection?

Yes, it includes both the original and enhanced versions. And it's been included because it's very popular with players. Are you saying the collection would be better without it?

- Lockout Halo 2
- Lockout H2A
- Blackout H3

That is the benefit of having all Halo maps ever released in one freaking package :)

THIS is going to make me miss xbox (switched to PS4). God damn that looks gorgeous! Plus using Halo 2's MP (Best FPS multiplayer) will mean lots of fun for fans of the series. Enjoy it XB fans!
Play a few rounds on Ascension and Hang 'Em High for me.

I like everything in this post.

So my fellow Halo brethren... is there any hope of a MCC Xbox One bundle happening? With the Sunset Overdrive and COD bundles happening so close to MCC's release I'm worried a MCC bundle wont happen now.

Doubt it.
I feel like they would have announced it by now, especially since they announced so many other bundles already.

There's the Halo panel tomorrow at PAX and if there was going to be one, it would be announced there.

I forgot about the PAX panel. Yeah, if they don't announce a bundle during PAX I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and buy a standalone XB1 so that I have it set up and ready for MCC.

Oh, on that note *puts in work request to have week of November 11th off from work*

That is pretty much the entire point of a team game, no? As soon as you somehow get a feedback how you -personally- did in a game (like in your example a points-based system), the whole team rank concept fails.

It doesn't matter what you do -personally- - as long as the -team- you are involved with wins, you win, too. League of Legends and similiar games do this, too. Because how do you want to develop a system that considers every single action you do - bad or good. What is a good action? What is a bad one? What is an action at all?

The only thing that matters in the end is that you win the game. Every other fair and competetive ranking or progress system with a -personal- scoring would be nearly impossible to build.

The whole ELO system is rather complicated. However, one fundamental idea about the whole system based on maths is: when you are better than in the ELO area you play, you will rank up. A usual 4vs4 match as an example. You have -three- randoms on your team, the other team has -four- randoms. If you simply keep on playing, you have a higher chance in ranking up than the other guys - if you are stronger and deserve so of course. Ironical I talked so much about teamplay, but exactly because of that, in the very end, you are responsible of your own destiny, -personally-.

I hope 343 gets rid of that god awful orange.

Frankie pls

I really hope so too. One of Lockout's defining characteristics is the cold/blue color scheme. Why do we need to make the map brown? Remember going from Valhalla to Ragnarok?

I'm sure it plays great, and for that I'm thankful as it's the most important part. I'd really prefer to not see another map get the "next gen" filter.
