I don't really see what they're going to accomplish with this personally. I own a 3DS and Vita but am not a big handheld gamer so maybe it doesn't matter what I think, but I don't see this doing much of anything really.
For me it just makes me want to sell my current 3DS XL, and maybe buy one of these new ones to replace it sometime down the road.
Thankfully, this does not mark a substantial decrease in pixel density like the XL.I just noticed they upped the screen size for default sized New 3DS over from OG 3DS.
Bottom screen went from 3.02 inches diagonally to 3.33. Top screen went from 3.53 to 3.88 inches. Your move, Samsung.
If this stunt works just like how the DSi did, they're going to accomplish a lot.

I don't understand the strategy. Is this enough for current owners to upgrade en masse?
if it has the same effect on the 3ds's userbase the dsi did on the original ds, then it would move about 14m units on its own, over time. it gets the system to 20m, maybe 21m in japan. 62m seems about right for the 3ds including everything over time.
Not to my knowledge, not on the site, and not on the Direct. If I were you, I'd assume no for now. Truthfully, I don't see this likely at all.i'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but has it been confirmed that the 3DS can multitask? like play music while playing games?
That "second stick" looks really awkward.
The PSP nub was, like the circle-pad, a slider. This doesn't look like it slides at all, but actually tilts, wether it be a like a micro-sized analog stick of Thinkpad trackpoint pointing stick is to be determined, but it seems to tilt. It's a nub, worse than the psp's nub, this is a nipple like nub. Its a shoehorned solution to a problem that should have been obvious to Nintendo at the earliest stages of planning the OG 3ds.

Did they improve the screen resolution?
No. In fact, the density has gone down.Did they improve the screen resolution?

It's now 4k.
If you like customization and sharper pixel densities, save your money and go with the superior (IMO) non-XL variant.I'm really glad I never upgraded from my OG 3DS to an XL. But now I'll have the rest of the year to ponder whether I would get the New 3DS with custom faceplates or the one with the larger screens. Damn you Nintendo.
As others have said, no, BUT if you are like me and plan to upgrade from an 'old' 3DS XL to a 'new' 3DS (non XL) then you will get higher density than the original 3DS XL yet still a bigger screen than the first 3DS, though it'll be smaller than the XL which is what I want, because I feel it is slightly too big for the pixel density.Did they improve the screen resolution?
I think that should be enough of a bump until the real 3DS successor gets released. Obviously nowhere near the range of the DS. I wonder how many units the GBC by itself shipped during its lifetime?
My friend and I were talking. Anyone getting an iPhone 5 vibe with the bottoms/tops of the unit above/below the faceplates?
Gotta love it!
No. In fact, the density has gone down.

2 LEs have benn announced for the XL variant, but the great thing about the regular New Nintendo 3DS is the whole faceplate thing. Not sure if I'll buy into this.
Only way I can justify buying a new 3DS is if there is an exclusive for it that I must have and if they start releasing limited editions for it.
1: This is a successor, not a refresh.how in the fuck do they down-res in a refresh? fail
I'm pretty sure DS games are still compatible.Hey there, new to this thread. So, has Nintendo said yet if these monsters are still going to be backwards compatible with DS games or not? Because Nintendo removing BC from later revisions like the DSi and the Wii Family Edition seems to be kind of a thing.

It seems to work with every DS game that does not require slot 2, and every DSi and 3DS and New 3DS game of your region.Hey there, new to this thread. Nothing other than maybe exclusive limited editions. So just what are the advantages of going New XL over New 3DS if you don't care a out the screen size difference?
The old XL was nice in several ways compared to the original IMO. I'm finding it harder to be compelled by the XL this time.
Non-XL seems to be a much clearer choice this round.
yea I'm more inclined to the new 3DS too. I prefer a screen that's sharper.
