The names are actually clever, in that they get people talking about the systems that they're for. How much more often will the name "Wii U" be spoken now that it's in the title of the game?
"I was playing Smash Bros. the other day, and..."
"Which one? Wii U? Or 3DS?"
"Wii U."
The system's name was just used twice. Boom.
I can imagine the nickname "Smash U" becoming common.
Let's take bets on what characters will be in smash 5 because who cares about what's in front of us.
If splatoon stays supported for more than a year, a rep is a shoe-in.
I won't take any bets.
But I don't think we'll get a lot of "classic" characters anymore, just like we didn't for this game. The exception here are likely going to be those weird retro characters that Sakurai loves bringing in, i.e. G&W, ROB and Duck Hunt.
I would imagine several of the axed characters from across the series making it back into the roster (if they're not gonna be in Smash 4 as DLC), including a Rhythm Heaven character.
Beyond that, probably mostly only characters that either are new (such as Pushmo, Inkling or someone from Project Steam), or characters that are getting a revival of sorts. For instance, if there's another DKC game and Dixie is in it, she's pretty much guaranteed to get in.
I also believe that Impa, now that her role's been growing in the more recent games, will have a very solid shot at making it in, unless there's going to be a Zelda game with a more likely choice.
The same goes for a variance of Toad, particularly if Captain Toad turns out being a successful series.
I also believe several ATs have a good chance to make it up into playable status (e.g. Takamaru or Dillon).
That's about all I can think of, though.
