How do you know it won't make them not as big a deal because it brings all the pve mechanics together in a way you find much more satisfying?
Nothing's ever surprised you like that?
Not a flop but be aware of this:

The Raid is endgame. A game like this really needs endgame for it to make sense.
I didn't ever suggest the addition of a raid would fix the flaws. I said it might be what the game needs for those things to not feel so consequential to you.
For example, I really don't like the lack of chat and social options and the terrible story, but the pvp and co-op gameplay make me forget about the issues I have and everything just comes of ether for me.
Maybe the road is the thing that will do that for others.
You can't know that till it happens.
As I said "more than the sum" is something I consider, and you can't know for sure till you have all the parts to add together.
Yeah, it seems like reviewers might be finally reacting to the backlash to the "it's okay, 95/100" review culture. If the harsh reviews of Destiny & co. are the new way, I'm all for it. But if they go right back to throwing tens and 96/100 at the likes of Skyrim and Infinite, then screw them. Are there any next gen games with a 95% + on gamerankings/metacritic? After Super Mario 3D World (93%), I think Mario Kart might be the closest with 88%, with TitanFall at 86 and NBA 2k14 at 85%.
All of the other big releases thus far, even in the major franchises (CoD/BF/AC/Forza/Killzone/Metal Gear), have been mid 70's to low 80's. I'd say reviewers have been remarkably restrained considering we're nearly two years into the Wii U's life and nearly a year into XBOne and PS4. Are there any games releasing this year that might actually end up at 90+ besides Bayo 2 and Smash 4? It's kind of weird to think about.

Were talking a raid here. Not a major change to game mechanics, explorable locations or extensive additions to loot etc. I don't think end game+ content like raids matter that much to the normal gaming public.
I don't have much of a problem with Destiny's gameplay, but a raid isn't suddenly going to make everything okay, it's not going to introduce something that makes me forget all of Destiny's flaws.
Even though this 1 raid mission isn't in the game yet, I would review it on what we get on day 1, because that is what you are reviewing. My problems lie with the atrocious story and the repetitive missions, and a raid will not help me forget any of those problems.
How can you review it without trying Raids though? When you try them t in they might be the exact thing you need for everything else to slot into place.
If I were reviewing I would hold off till then.
I understand that you're talking with him, but I would like to chime in. In my recent memories (my memory sucks, so I beg your pardon if I forget something big), only the opposite happened. I remember a few games that I was liking until the end / until I did most of what they offer, then my opinion just went down because of crappy design decisions.
I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but in my anecdotal opinion if he did what you're saying it might as well tarnish his opinion even more.
Did you happen to like Borderlands or Halo? Because in Borderlands, you get quest that are all about the same, "Collect this", "Kill so many of these", "Kill this boss". In Halo, you wait for a flood of enemies to fight through to get to an ending.
What, in your opinion, did you want or expect? A primary RPG?

I don't know man. I put 40 hours into the beta including pvp, Russia, and the Moon, and really like Destiny.
I don't find it underwhelming at all, which is actually quite surprising to me.
I'd say this is more accurate

I honestly think you underestimate how big a deal a solid endgame can be for a game like this.
You've obviously never experienced something being more than the sum of it's parts and surprising you.
Seems I can't describe it to make you understand, either.
If this is the wrong topic to ask just tell me, but here it goes:
What is wrong with the PvP? I don't played it yet, so I'm blind about that (the PvE issues I understand and read about it already).
Ok so 6 from Gamekult. Called it (Was expecting 7 maybe even 6). Edge will probably give it the same score.
Fair criticism IMO.
I dont have much time to play right now, university is torturing me. So now that the game is out, does it really lack content, even for a "pseudo mmo"?
Meaning only one area on a planet, and those areas are not incredibly huge environments and so forth?

+ Gameplay made for the gamepad
+ Fantastic artistic direction
+ Epic soundtrack
+ Solid technically
+ Fun in coop
- Crying lack of diversity
- Meager content at launch
- Disjointed world
- Classes too similar at the beginning
- Questionable teamplay
- Weak social aspect
- Stupid respawn, notably during boss fights
- Appalling AI
- Obsolete PvP
- Long loading times
- Bad voice over (in French)
Fair criticism IMO.

Appauling AI and obsolete Pvp are far from fair.
For certain, anyone who says this AI is actually appaing and keeps a straight face shouldn't be trusted.
So averaging an 8.6 on rushed reviews is a flop? It sold 500 million it didn't flop. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it didn't flop.
Yup.the 500M number on day one was the copies shipped to stores wasnt it?
I'm really surprised at the lack of reviews from bigger U.S sites. They've had the game since Monday.
Yup.
I'm not. They're probably more inclined to take their time and be sure than rush out a knee jerk opinion piece.
About 5 hours in, level 9. The biggest issue that they could fix immediately is the "Free Roam" or Patrol mode.
-Add randomized enemies including the larger Majors/Ultras. Grinding would be much cooler if an Ultra suddenly showed up ala' Diablo 3.
-Spice up things with some random PVP encounters (not sure how to implement, but maybe a fight for some loot or something would be great...)
-MORE. PUBLIC. EVENTS. Yesterday I did 1 public event in over an hour of roaming...by myself. Add more and pull more fire teams into them.
-More randomized chests that appear here and there to encourage exploring.
To me, these 4 things would go a long way to making the game more of an enjoyable "Free Roam" experience...I like the game, it's just needs more of everything...
well people should probably stop saying that it already sold that much then, the number is still impressive though I guess
I agree. I didn't expect reviews on Tuesday, but it's been plenty of time by now.I'm really surprised at the lack of reviews from bigger U.S sites. They've had the game since Monday.

Not much chance of that when every other page someone new writes "where did the $500m go"?

This is pretty amusing because a bunch of said sites always rush out knee jerk opinion pieces designed to maximize clicks.
While these are good fixes, I think the game needs a major overhaul. The mission structure needs more diversity and the world needs to be a lot less empty with things to do that aren't shooting enemies. The world just feels too empty and there is no reason to take in the landscape.

There is no matchmaking in the raid (singular--its one raid, not multiple raids) and it requires significant time commitment and investment with your group. People are complaining about no matchmaking in story missions, never mind raid. That content will be for a very small subset of Destiny players and so I believe should not have a significant affect on reviews.
Bayo2 reviews will consist mostly of thinly veiled port begging. Game will deliver.Bayo 2 reviewing better than the first game would be pretty impressive, but I don't see it happening.
That's referring to the development costs though isn't it? Not how much it made the first day.
