Y'know what?

If they seriously removed the majors to stop glimmer farming, but used their reasoning as reduced difficulty, it's....offensive.

Be honest. Blizzard would tell me that they were removing it due to "people were acquiring loot at a rate faster than had been designed for / anticipated".

The difficulty part is nonsense, especially as when I play I have like 5 different difficulties I can choose from.

It also makes me worry about later changes / the planning for this game if they're already masking their reasoning
It would have affected glimmer farming anyway, nothing to do with engrams... so I have no clue. didn't affect the rate of loot acquisition. i have no idea why they characterized it as reduced difficulty apropos of nothing, though.

Holy shit I think Bungie just fixed the cave. I was sitting there farming it waiting for the maintenance to happen before I try to do anything I care about and all of a sudden a couple dozen chosen knights and a dozen or so chosen wizards, along with a massive crowd of trash mobs just started pouring out of every spawn door in the area. It was absolute madness. That was the most intense fight I can imagine having with a bunch of level 7 AIs lol
this is old/can happen in many locations

I've never seen it though ;_;

Are you talking about a Public Event? Happens there most of the time.

No, the rep all goes to a new queen faction(that seems to sell...a bunch of garbage?), but you should still do the bounties/missions to get legendaries to break apart. They aren't any better than whatever legendary you would have now, though.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Yeah, I was pretty unhappy to see that.

If they want to nerf Glimmer farming, explain why they're doing it, where, and how.

But plugging the leaks is a waste of time, if players are farming something instead of doing other activities, it's because either a) farming is more rewarding or b) they don't know what else to do.

Buff the other activities and/or or communicate progression and rewards more clearly and player behavior will change. Trying to force players to play the game a certain way never works - observe how they are playing it and respond to the reasons they are doing so (either because they enjoy doing thing X, or because they don't see thing Y as fun or worthwhile - give more X, fix or cut Y).

Dishonesty when communicating with your community is not a good sign.

I think Bungie needs to recalibrate their communciation a bit, they've always been pretty tight lipped, and that simply does not work well for a living online game.

Their failure to adequately communicate post-20 progression paths (and a lot of other things) and leaving it up to the community to figure out (and argue over) was a bit of a fuckup as well.

I also think stuff like the cave is spawned out of them making it so that endgame isn't solely focused on Mars thanks to the way the game progresses and the lack of any variable Patrol instances on higher levels. But going this route completely diminishes the value of actually fighting harder enemies when a level 2 grey enemy you drop like nothing can drop whatever you need.

Simultaneously, part of me also thinks it was done to stop griefing. The way the system is setup now, a high level can't come and lay waste to everything around you. Even being in the vicinity, sitting and reading a book, gets you XP and loot. I've had several engrams show up at the postmaster when mobs I wasn't even looking at died. Hell, in the Divide I saw a Legendary engram way out far away from me near nothing I killed. It's crazy.

The "problem" is it just makes it so that their endgame system is completely messed up.

Still like the game, but mostly due to compulsions, not intellectually.

So what's the deal with Queens missions? Did it twice and got the same loot with some different numbers, everyone in my party did :/

I would be incredibly surprised if the drops don't change in later days, making it possible to fully deck out in the Queen gear.
Do you mean like the options will change to include all four armor slots, or change so that on another day you can get gloves/boots but no longer get helm/chest? Interesting, we'll see what happens I guess.

Actually, considering how good and truly guaranteed the rewards are from these missions, I wouldn't be surprised if it actually weren't possible to do them every day at all. Interested to see how it goes.

I got the same helmet twice the first two times. The third time I got the Queens sniper, The Supremacy.

Great post. Something went wrong in the design phase of this game, in several areas, OR there were some major changes halfway through and stuff was cut/changed.

Like... there are ways to still be productive in it but its all assbackwards and you really, really have to close your eyes and pretend its all good to defend the mess that's in front of everyone. This is simply bad design. You can work around it, sure, but that doesn't make it any less poorly designed and flawed. What's worse is people using "well, if they didn't do it like this then all the bad players would be screwed!" excuse when there are a multitude of ways that this could've been handled better.

This is still the best FPS I've played in a long long time so that alone will keep me here for the ride but geez... imagine if the gameplay wasn't good. I'd be throwing this in the bushes.

how do you unlock new skills, exactly?

I'm reading that you get exp for them, but they level up (or rather, your subclass levels up) separately from your main character. so how do I get, for example, a new jump skill instead of a new granade or any other skill?
* anyone?

Yeah, the game makes it so you really can't grief, even to the extent of...well, the anti-socialness by default.

The main kick those people can actually get now is via screwing up the cave spawns for people, lol.

Yeah, I'm expecing it to start dropping other armor pieces. AFAIK I've only heard people getting the chest/head today, but maybe tomorrow it will only be legs/arms, or it could stay the same for a bit then change next week. Since I think she's around 2 weeks?

I do think it'd be weird if you could actually get all these legendaries every single day, but I don't really see why this is a timed event otherwise. The actual queen vendor person is only selling rare guns which actually helps fill a hole that was missing a bit as the gunsmith becomes useless and you rely on drops for that part.

This is fucking comedic. A week of whining about the difficulty of getting legendaries, Bungie hands them out, whining about the ease of earning legendaries and requesting a higher tier to grind towards.

The definition of cannot win.

Also that Legendary gear that's 'only a few points better in stats' lets you get to level 30, which is the level of the hard raid, and if you've done any post 20 content, you know how much it sucks to be under leveled against pve mobs. It will also matter very slightly in iron banner, for those who want every advantage they can get, though its less of an issue there.

More critically, there are mods on the raid gear you cannot find elsewhere currently. I'm packing a Solar primary weapon. And it's Solar Burn week. And Epic week. Shanks, Wizards, Cabal, and every poor bastard in the Nightfall, Weekly, or Queen mission with Solar Burn active fear me.

tldr: Queen bounties own.

Any MMO developer will tell you that some people are literally never happy, and most people are always unhappy about something. That's just how it is.

Also, fuck that Solar Burn shit, all my weapons are Arc and Void :(

That's what happens when a game starts costing $500m. People start saying "listen motherfuckers, ship what you have or we're going to hunt down your families". Luckily Activision has said they're in it for the long haul. Games need to ship to start bringing in revenue. Now that that's happened, we can expect to see some of the missing stuff added in successive patches.

So what are these Queen's Missions/Bounties? Anyone care to fill me in? Can't play tonight. :(

bounty- some relatively easy bounties available for one to do, don't take too long and get experience that goes unfortunately towards Queen stuff.

mission- level 24 missions with some modifiers. While not horrible, it's recommended to go with a team but a level 26 minimum is recommended to do solo, and then just reload the mission until you get the earth mission. Shortest to completion and you only have to fight one group of level 24 dudes.

I just completed today's queen mission on hard only to find out I couldn't contact Destiny's servers upon completion. Do I have to redo the mission?

I agree... It reminds me a lot of why I poured so much time into the early days of D3. The story was insulting to the franchise, the itemization was terrible, but it was so...so damn satisfying to kill things. Destiny is similar in gameplay, but obviously lacking in other areas. Diablo 3 is a pretty decent game today after a long series of patches (some bringing pretty huge changes), let's hope Bungie can provide similar levels of long-term support.

^completely agree

i'm hopeful i just don't trust bungie to make the committed effort. i'd love to be surprised though

that's being incredibly dismissive....

Happens all the time. The first clue is when bunch of hives start pouring out from left side door, followed by a wizard.

I would have claimed this (and had no issues reaching 24 without even trying) as of yesterday, but then I heard fro someone who had not had a single blue drop with Light despite hours of play at level 20. RNG can be cruel.

This was me, I was totally on board and had the same beliefs as your guide but it just wasn't happening for me :( After three play sessions at 20, handful of hours or more per each session, I got bumpkiss. Last night I resorted to the stupid loot cave and it has rekindled my interest in the game because I went up 4 levels in that one play session and can now play some of the higher content like the Weekly Strike or doing the higher lvl strikes with my higher level friends. Just a little more and I can do the Raid! All I wanted was to go up a couple levels so I can handle new challenges where I figured I'd start getting better loot. The loot cave is great not just because of the cave, but because you get a recurring public event that can get you shards/energy AND two beacons to get rep while you're shooting into that silly little cave.

In any case, now that I'm at a decent level and the Queen stuff has hit, I can go back to normal play. Now I just need to find a faster way to get Ascended Shards. I think the Night Strike or whatever it's called does so but I'm still too low level for that just yet.

Aren't you like, guaranteed blue loot if you finish a strike through the strike playlist?

The Progression is essentially just fucking Fucked...

My experience with this god damn game...

levels 1-20 and story finished in less than 8 hours

levels 21-24 found all blue level 20 Equipment and upgraded in 6 additional hours

level 25: maxed all Marks in both Vanguard and Crucible. Got Vanguard to level 3, Crucible to Rank 2 and a independent faction to Rank 1, which bought my way into level 25. Then I ran Weekly Heroics and Every Daily Heroic, Did at least 1 public event a day and did several lvl 24 strikelist matches hoping for an upgrade material or Legendary drop, and was still waiting for that last ascended shard to get to level 26: This took an additional 55 hours

Level 26-28: Tonight I will be able to take on missions that will give me gear that will bring me to level 27 or 28 in a few hours due to the event.

This event will be awesome for everyone able to utilize it!

But it doesn't fix the fact that I spent the last 55 hours of playtime stuck behind a Wall that was completely dependent on a random drop system.

Happens all the time. The first clue is when bunch of hives start pouring out from left side door, followed by a wizard.

The enemy flash mob is the best part of caving! So is the event that starts and drops right on everyone's head who don't know to clear out. Oh, and so is making a new alt and just parking him there, making a sandwich, and immensely accelerating the level grind. :)
Thank you loot cave. Don't ever change.

Need 1-2 people on my fireteam tonight. I would like to do some of the Queens Bounty stuff and would like to try my hand at the weekly nightfall. I am a 26 Hunter. I'll be ready to go around 6:30pm ET.

PS4 PSN: GKW212

Also, started a Destiny clan on Bungie. I was bored at work and couldnt help myself.

Join me if you would like: Sgt Slaughters Army

EDIT: I'm pretty much up for anything tonight, was just suggesting a few events/missions. I just want to play because I'm an addict.

should clarify, you need to do the bounties before you can do the mission. Each bounty lets you finish one mission, which guarantees a legendary gear. As of right now helmet and chest are almost guaranteed to drop, so if you have no need for either of those legendary then you can always dismantle.

We have a raid team ready waiting for two more brave soldiers. Going to do the raid from the start with 27+ people. Please join!

Pretty much my same sentiment--I think the game has a lot of issues but I've still been playing it just about every day.

I get that this is Bungie's first try at this kind of game, but it's not like they didn't have the time or the resources to be more in sync than this. It's like the Product team had an idea of what they wanted, but didn't check in with Engineer/Dev at all during the process to see how it was being implemented.

That's what happens when a game starts costing $500m. People start saying "listen motherfuckers, ship what you have or we're going to hunt down your families". I think the game will be vastly improved by the next two DLC--it sounds like they'll have a substantial amount of content. It's just a shame that we have to pay for it.

Aren't you like, guaranteed blue loot if you finish a strike through the strike playlist?

Usually and when I did, I got the same thing over and over again, helmets or boots which I already had and they'd never be better than what I had and I couldn't add up more light points to save my life. It hits me on the weapon side too, I get the same shit over and over again. I hilariously have 4 of the exact same rocket launcher model under my heavy weapons (though two have a different element, at least).

Dismissive, yes. Real-world honest? Abso-fucking-lutely.

It's so true, though.

/Ultima Online veteran

Regardless, that opinion lends itself to the idea Bungie knows what they're doing.

To be honest, I think this game is suffering from a huge identity crisis, though this may be more evident in the next few months. From a design standpoint, Destiny is all over the place while nixing certain features that make the included features function within videogames. The go-to example of this is how the hell are you going to have a raid with no way in-game to find people to do it with you?

So far, we've been talking about the loot and I've said my piece on it, but that's just one person pissing in an ocean of piss. Granted, the game is fun as hell, but what in the world is Destiny?
