Ukraine needs three to four times more emergency cash than the International Monetary Fund currently forecasts.

That’s the view of Lubomir Mitov, chief Europe economist for the Institute of International Finance, a global banking group. “The economic situation has deteriorated sharply; it is close to disastrous,” said Mr. Mitov. “The IMF program has to be redone, has to be extended for three years at least.”

He estimates Ukraine faces a financing hole of $13 billion to $15 billion through next year even if a ceasefire between Kiev and Russia-backed separatists holds.

The IMF earlier this month said the country needs at least $3.5 billion more than originally planned to keep it afloat through the end of next year. That amount could rise to $19 billion if the civil war continues, the fund said. That’s on top of the $30 billion global bailout program the IMF is already spearheading.

The ‘military police’ of ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’ (‘DPR’) told the SMM that three unmarked graves allegedly containing multiple bodies had been found; two of them were located in a coal mine Komunar near the village Nyzhnia Krynka (35km north-east of Donetsk) and one inside the village. The SMM proceeded to the scene and saw in the coal mine two areas located fifty metres apart, each containing two human bodies. All four corpses were in the process of decomposition. The SMM also saw eight 9mm Makarov pistol cartridges approximately five meters away from the bodies. Near the road on the edge of the village, the SMM observed a pile of earth resembling a grave which had a stick with a plaque, written in Russian and containing the names (or in one case – initials) of five individuals. The plaque indicated that the individuals died on 27.08.2014. On top of the plaque there was another inscription saying: ‘Died for Putin’s lies’. Neither in the coal mine nor in the village did the SMM see any forensic experts. COMMENT: The SMM cannot provide a forensic assessment of the sites.

it seems at least some of the bodies were "opened up" (unverified). Some reports say all 4 bodies from 2 of the 3 sites were males. Some others say 1 male, 3 females. At least one of the victims was obviously shot in the back of the head (see photos). Total of 9 bodies were found in a total of 3 "graves".

Kinda old news, but they haven't been posted yet. I was planning on writing this last night, but the keyboard on my phone kept messing up and after three tries I gave up.

Ukrainian activists earlier toppled a statue of Lenin in the eastern city of Kharkiv - a move likely to be seen as a provocation by pro-Russians.

Nationalist protesters had gathered around the statue on Sunday night for a "Kharkiv is Ukraine" rally. The governor of Kharkiv region, Ihor Baluta, then signed an order to dismantle the statue.

The mayor of Kharkiv, Gennady Kernes, said on a local government website that the monument would be restored, calling its destruction unlawful.

Pro-Russian demonstrators defended the statue in February, as similar monuments were being taken down in other parts of the country in a wave of protests that accompanied the removal of President Viktor Yanukovych.

They have been toppling Lenin statues all over Ukraine since the protests happened back in March. I remember a live map being linked in the last thread showing the statues they brought down. I couldn't find that live map, but here's one that was updated as of yesterday from the Ukrainian Wikipedia.

I remember them being toppled, but I didn't know it was that widespread (and that there were that many statues in Ukraine). Apparently only three left.

Eh, the primary source for that is OSCE. Just because media used wrong photos, doesn't change the existance of those "graves".

I believe the source for that was a someone falsely stating to be part of OSCE, his name is Einars Graudins and he is a Prorussian activist. OSCE has stated that he has nothing whatsoever to do with OSCE. He is just spreading lies as per usual for Russian propaganda.

It's pretty strange to have a plaque created for civilians that were illegally killed. Seems really heavy handed. Anyway, as pointed out by Eric the person making these mass grave claims has no affiliation with the OSCE:

This is even more depressing than I expected... I stopped watching Vice news a while ago, not because it's not good, but because it's way too depressing. Thought maybe older footage is better, but it really isn't. The irony of all of this is that I was in the Western Ukraine (or Fascist Ukraine as Russia would call it) recently and it's packed with tourists. Mostly people coming from eastern/central Ukriane... There's no sign of any conflict there. That's just surreal.
 
There are some people theorizing that the drop in price of oil is due to the US and Saudi Arabia acting in concert to put the squeeze on Russia and Iran. I don't think this is true at all, but it's a welcome side effect for them.

The price is dropping because the US is able to now produce more shale oil than before and it can make money off of lower prices at a higher volume. Saudi Arabia is not reducing output because if they do it will drive the price up...but that will only make more shale exploration profitable. So they are instead banking on being able to sell a bunch of oil at a lower profit margin but still survive, when the alternative is to sell less at a higher profit margin but encourage more American oil development and hurt themselves in the long run.

It's just a happy coincidence for the US and Saudi Arabia that Russia and Iran are being hurt by this (well, and Canada too, unfortunately).

How many votes did they get in the presidential election again? Wasn't it like, less than 1%?

I know the idea of free elections where even extremists are allowed to run is scary for Russians, but you can't judge an entire country based on the policies of a fringe political group.

This is written in my profile that I'm from St.Petersburg, Russia. This is not near Moscow. It's between Finland and Estonia at the Russian border.

One more thought about controlled mass media. Here, in Russia there is no any restriction on TV or something. I've got CNN, BBC as well as Ukrainian channels on my cable. So, I'm free to choose my information source not saying about Internet. Yes, there's some restriction in the internet but mainly for narcotics, terrorism and anti-religion stuff all of which can be simply bypassed by installing proper web-browser. So, literally there's no any restriction regarding information source to chose.

If you didn't get it, we are talking about a military fascist organization that is not controlled by the government but which is officially entitled to be a political party. Just read this from wikipedia (not Russian one from English wikipedia):

I'm talking about parties that thought there'd be a civil war between whites and blacks and started stockpiling weapons and ordering its members to train with them.

You might want to jettison the Russian media talking points. Also the mods are strict about this thread being for discussing news only after so many FUD derails.

Sounds like you are describing the separatist?? or can you enlighten me if they stole their weapons or got them from Putin. Ofc normally you don't have anti air systems and tanks at a police station. but what do i know.
