Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Thats what im wondering.

I mean this is crazy. I wouldn't let any game pass QC that does this BS.

Also, i hope we never doubt insiderp again-

"Parity Clause" is now the cancer of the gaming world. Watchdogs , a game which was running at 1080p,30fps - 40 fps on PS4 last year, was downgraded for "parity's " sake on SONY's console. The game was initially running at 720p on Xbox One and the developers decided to "up" the resolution to 792p by forfeiting some graphical effects. This stance from the developers was unjustified by the game sales . Watchdogs went on to sell 2.1 million copies on PS4 and just 700,000 copies on Xbox One in the first week of its launch. Now it seems atleast 2 major upcoming multiplatform titles are being downgraded for Xbox One . Both these titles were running at full 1080p on PS4. Just like Watchdogs, the games are now expected to run at 900p on PS4 and 792p/720p on Xbox One. We would seriously suggest SONY to put an injunction on the developers . Most of the publishers are making the bulk of their revenues on SONY's platform but would gleefully downgrade the PS4 version for "parity clause" of the Xbox One version. As of right now, games like Destiny and Metal Gear Solid : Phantom Pain are running at full HD on PS4 and just 720p on Xbox One.

Ohhhh my GOD Ubi how dare you do this shit!

Because of this I will not be buying this game on my PC, fuck you and your forced parity!

j/k I'm not a console warrior

1. Early adopters of new technology are the hardcore fans and enthusiasts who do post on forums such as these.

2. The opinions of enthusiasts and hardcore fans are usually sought out by their mainstream/casual friends and sometimes simply pushed on them regardless of their desire to hear it.

This kind of news spreads from the core outward, and it will spread quickly because it's complete bullshit.

Beat me with a 1080p display if old

Haha. What douchebags. Glad I had no interest in this one, if I did I wouldn't be picking it up now. between the "parity" and this from Eurogamer's new preview;

"Finally there are Hack Points, a shortcut currency set to be purchasable via micro-transactions. The mechanics for buying these weren't live in the build we played (and there were no example prices listed), but after looking through the game's menus we found a screen with five different Hack Point pack types seemingly ready to go on sale. The currency will allow quicker access to certain weapons and gear items, and while micro-transactions aren't entirely new to the series (Black Flag included time-saver packs to unlock map icons and ship upgrades) the progression to a full, alternate in-game currency is a step further than what has gone before."

Fuck you Ubi. Take your Ass Creed and stick it in your hnnnng, stick it in your hnnnnng.

You bought a lesser hardware and you expect parity? Since when has this ever been true with other generations?

I don't expect it, but I really don't mind it.

Why does it even matter, if you don't even own PS4 (or don't want to play games on it)? It's the same exact thing if you don't own a PC capable of playing this game at better visuals, while other people clearly do. Like literally, exactly the same thing.

I do own a ps4 but I'd rather have the game for Xbox one however I would obviously have some reservations about buying it knowing the performance on the ps4 version would be meaningfully better. Now that this point is moot I can buying the Xbox one version without worrying about it having lesser performance than it would on my ps4.

Sure you can still buy it in good conscience, this whole thing isn't a big deal. If you're interested in the game, pick it up.

For me it is a big deal. Will still buy the next one though if they aim to maximize the potential of all platforms.

I've decided to not buy the game on PS4, thanks Ubi.

Seriously Ubisoft, this is one of the most bizarre announcements I've seen in gaming, it shows a complete lack of awareness by Management.
They need to look inside their Management culture, how this could ever be approved is beyond me. It could have avoided so many debates and stuff.

I wouldn't put it past Ubi to have simply decided this on their own. However, if they had encouragement, the saddest apart about this would be MS tacitly acknowledging they apparently don't have any other platform appeal to compensate for a 180p resolution gap.

Was there even much of a debate anymore? Figured everyone in the know knows the PS4 is superior technically. And those not in the know don't really give a shit. This really seems like a way to appease MS.

I wonder if i should look for a job at Ubisoft in the PR team. Something tells me i would have make a better job at actually not rising any debate and controversy.

It's entirely likely they figured GAF would overreact like usual. I highly doubt they give much of a shit about this thread.

Are you friends with TotalBiscuit perchance? You guys share the same wrong opinions about how powerful internet opinion can be, or have we forgotten the XBO DRM campaign so quickly?

Even then, it will probably only piss off maybe 5%-8% of the gaming populace when all is said and done. That's not very much when you consider how many gamers there are in the world.

The game will still do very well.

This is in line with what I heard a few weeks ago (MS moneyhat).

Chill? Reminds me of the "rational" gamers that were saying chill after the X1 reveal and DRM plans.

No. Don't chill. Raise hell in a constructive manner. Spread the word. Cause a stink. Let Ubi feel the heat, just like MS felt it after seeing the preorder numbers when word got out about their original plans.

Staying quiet in these instances usually equates to being complacent. Raising hell doesn't mean rioting in the streets and death threats. It means raising your voice so even game media can't ignore for fear of missing out on the next attention grabbing topic.

And I've seen a lot of people suspect it in this thread, but I don't know if MS had a hand in this. Because if they did, MS really miscalculated the benefit of having the PS4 version gimped to force parity or at least the ability of Ubi to not be blatant about intentionally locking both versions to avoid debates, because this makes MS' hardware look inferior. Again, I don't know if MS had a hand in this. Wouldn't influencing Ubi to gimp the PS4 version be illegal somehow?

A part of me wouldn't doubt Ubi said this just to cover their own butts, so they don't have to put in the extra effort in the PS4 or both versions, with their COD-like release schedule for AC games maybe resulting in less time to optimize.

I grew up on Atari, so if the game was 720p it wouldn't matter to me if that's the game the dev wanted to make. But to intentionally hold a game back to avoid debates and in favor of the company you just happen to have a co-marketing deal with? I can't support that.

I agree, gamers forget really quick. I will never buy an xboxOne, not cause Im an fanboy but because they tried to fck all gamers.

Making such a big deal out of something that has a small impact on your experience is stupid.

Like someone in this thread already said, being confused and asking why 1080p isn't pissible is a reasonable reaction to this news and their justification for it. Acting like Ubisoft killed your mother is not. People talking about how ubisoft is now on their shit list alongside ea. Or proudly proclaiming that they aren't going to get the game that they already thought was going to be good enough to fucking pre order it months in advance is stupid.

Canceling a pre-order is acting like they killed my mother? Hyperbole much?

Do you realize how much effort and money it takes to pre-order a game online at Best Buy? Zero. Do you know why I pre-ordered it? Because BestBuy is offering $10 back for pre-orders on select titles. Unity was one of them.

The great thing about pre-orders is they can be canceled. I owe them nothing.

Read the quote from Ubisoft.

Not a viable reason, hence the entire thread blowing up. Why downgrade something? Why not give your consumers the best possible product? There is no reason to downgrade it because of of the platforms your product is being released on can't maintain a certain quality. We pay for their products, not the other way around.

Damn, sucks for you PS4 owners out there. Well at least I'll be able to run the PC version at 1200p unrestricted.

Yea maybe with your SLI 980s :lol

I'll be skipping this on every platform now. Was gonna rent it on PS4 since I know the PC port is gonna be shit, but now why bother. Who knows, maybe if they turn out a decent PC port for once I may buy it for $5 in a year.

I guess you are the reason some of us can't have nice things. Good attitude. Smart.

Came expecting some discussion of the CPU-bound explanation.

My expectations were wayyyyy too high :/

Increasing resolution can impact the framer ate. If true, continue.

Increasing CPU load can impact the frame rate. If true, continue.

Assume program is CPU bound. This means any more load will reduce the frame rate below acceptable target.

Assume GPU is not at 100% capacity.

If you now increase the GPU load by increasing resolution, frame rate will now drop below acceptable levels.

Therefore, it is possible that this particular program cannot be run at a higher resolution even though its GPU is not being used to max effect.

But it is more fun to meltdown and post gifs of money.
