Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

I wish I had a basement. You know, I never understood why that is a put down. Basements are pretty awesome. They're cooler, darker.

Nope. That would irk some developers who possibly couldn't get their games to that level on the system without major compromises and ruin the relationship some have with Sony.

Then just demand it run better than Xbox One in some way, be it resolution, framerate, or effects.

I actually don't think they should do that, it would be horrible. But Microsoft wants to play it that way, so bring the gun to the gun fight.

What a hilarious clusterfuck.

You act like NeoGaf is an actual representation of the real world. Yeah, all 10 million PS4 owners the world over are just fuming mad... fuming! lol you guys need to step out of the basement.
You're currently posting on an internet forum for video games. Did you know?

Speak for yourself. Why are you even here than?
Neogaf obviously has influence over the industry. It's been proven multiple times.

Something on r/XboxOne that I thought was interesting:

No one gave a shit about Kinect, and that is evident right from X360 days. It's MS problem that they produced a weak device and relied on gimmicks to sell the system, and are now paying the price with PS4 talking a huge lead. If only, XOne was a powerful device just like PS4, we would not be having 100 pages of discussion based on resolution gate/parity gate etc.

Senior producer Vincent Pontbriand:
"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff."

*Observes ~100 page thread*

Hmm... Something tells me that didn't quite play out as planned...

I have an xbox one but even I have to agree this is bullshit, if you can get it running at 1080/30 with no compromises like sounds to be the case here then go for it. Holding it back just because is silly.

What I'm saying is that it's easier if both versions look the same for Ubisoft. This way, both versions look and play great.

The PS4 guys who actually care about this are in a very small minority.

If you don't think there are plenty of gamers who chose PS4 this gen because it is the stronger of the three current gen consoles, I don't know what to tell you. If developers are going to negate a reason a lot of gamers moved from 360 to PS4 and their whole reason is just so there wouldn't be a debate, isn't that kinda shitty?

And a debate has definitely happened.

Something on r/XboxOne that I thought was interesting:

Xbone exclusives barely make use of Kinect and voice commands but this person thinks that the PS4 not using them is stopping them from being adopted?

PS4 supports voice commands anyway, and it doesn't need a $100 camera to achieve it,

This is one of the dumbest false equivalencies I've read in a while.

.

Considering a few of those like voice commands and smartglass is silly because PS4 has a mic, PS eye. PSeye + PS4 is cheaper than the kinect bundle at least in the US.

Dedicated servers are said not to be free outside development.

Watch Dogs - Disrupt
Assassin's Creed - Anvil Next

Done.

Looool

Something on r/XboxOne that I thought was interesting:

Nothing you quoted is interesting - those are all meaningless statements that are not backed up by anything. If Kinect was so awesome and opened up all sorts of possibilities for developers, there would have been more Kinect games on the 360 that would have sold better than they did, and Microsoft wouldn't have eliminated Kinect as a requirement on the Xbox One.

I'm surprised you made it to member status with this level of thread shitting.

Imagine if you bought a Ferrari but found out that the only gas available limited your car to the speed of a BMW or Chevy.

Going from 1080p/60fps to 900p/30fps is a huge drop off in performance. If the PS4 could get anywhere close to that and was held back, then people definitely should be pissed.

But the PS4 version can look and play better. Why let the Xbox One hold it back?
This will only piss off PS4 owners.

I seriously don't understand this. Why not be the voice for Gamers, and the industry in a positive way, instead of thrashing them?

Because not all gamers care about frame rate and resolution.

I use IGN for my news mostly. Almost none of those editors give a fuck about FPS unless its absolutely broken like Borderlands 2 vita.

Their readers also do not care. Their top comments are mostly, "who the fuck cares, this is only flamebait" whenever IGN posts a framerate/resolution article.

Neogaf is the first place I have ever seen it being a big deal.

If the framerate is not broken like Skyrim PS3, I don't care if it is 60 or 30.

Resolution doesn't matter to me either. I am a university student. I didn't buy a monitor for "crisp lush visuals". I bought a monitor so I can see my god damn video games. I didn't buy a PS4 for 60FPS only gaming or 1080p standard resolution. I bought one because thats where all the games are going to be.

You don't think their engines share tech? It's a incredible coincidence that both games happen to the only two games that are 900p and 30fps on PS4.

Same company also means same politics.

When the fire starts in what is the biggest, influential video game forum ever, it can only rise and spread from there.

The PS4 was $100 cheaper then the X1. That is the reason people have chose the console. Power means nothing, as we saw with the Wii.

This is off topic though.

Seeing as how the hashtag is rapidly declining in popularity, it seems those who are upset about this have already had their say. This in no way is going to be as "mainstream" as the PS4NoDRM event.

https://www.hashtags.org/analytics/ps4noparity/

It is already on every gaming journalism website there is practically. Just because twitter mentions have come back down to earth doesn't mean this is going away.

Wtf??? I bought it for exclusives and knowing it would be the most powerful system. I would have still bought PS4 if it was $100 more than X1.

I call BS on some of those:

Let me take stab at the ones you missed

It bugs me that more games don't use the integrated 1080p camera because it's an expensive option on PS4. Yeah. Like titanfall, Sunset overdrive, Halo MCC, Forza horizon ....Wait.

It bugs me that more games don't have snappable companion apps because PS4 doesn't have snap. And exactly how many Xbox exclusives have companion apps?[

It bugs me that more games don't use dedicated servers because the cross-platform costs would be too high. How many multiplatform games use dedicated servers period?

But no, I didn't go nuts.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

They just showed a tendency to diminish the value of the PS4 I bought a year ago by paying developers to make, not Xbox's console/gaming experience better, but mine worse. It's happened at least twice (that I'm upset about) in the previous few months, and I strongly suspect this is it happening for a third time.

I agree so hard.

I'm apprehensive as to what MS will try to do in 2015 as the sales gulf between the 2 consoles continues to grow :/

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Indeed!

If only MS could keep their shit in the direction of those who bought their console I would be very pleased. Instead, their focus seems to be on gimping the other console.

I don't whine because my GTX 660 won't make a game look as good as someone's GTX 780 or whatever. I accept it and enjoy whatever I'm playing on whatever setting I have to settle for

You'd be complaining if it was the other way around, your GTX 780 performing the same as the lesser GTX 660, because that is the case here.

I'm not crying about this, but please tell me you're not serious. You can't honestly see why would PS4 owners be mad at this? paying for better hardware yet getting gimped versions because MS cheaped out on the hardware and most likely had a hand on this?

Haha sure, some angry posters are annoying, but the people saying "bend over and get over it" are far worse, and not just in this case.

But other gamers decided to ditch the Xbox brand after two gens of being the console world's powerhouse and moved to this gen's console world powerhouse. Many 360 gamers are now PS4 gamers. Additional power is one of the reasons many gamers moved. Negating it for no reason other than "no debate allowed", it sucks.

That is absolutely not the only reason people chose the console. Drm policies and power played a huge part, and made waves in social media. C'mon, this was way too recent to have forgotten about.

But yes, off topic.

Even with Xbone being at the same price as PS4 now, it's still being outsold everywhere. So the price is not the only reason.

How does it look fun?
Serious question since I read the previews and saw the gameplay...am I missing something?

I don't normally agree with you, but for once I will.

I buy the Assassins Creed games day 1, with the collectors edition because I collect those statues.

Unity is the first assassins creed game I have looked at and said "this looks broken, I am not sure".

Look at the B roll they gave the press. The game is chugging, the AI doesn't look good at all. The parkour is the only noticeable improvement. The game is unstable at best, and every piece of media is filled with screen tearing and pop in.

Good for you. But to many of us here on Neogaf do care.
Its why PS4 is selling better than Xbox One. Not the only reason, but a big part of it.

What res monitor did you buy? A 15 inch 720p monitor I assume

Not surprised that MS is paying for shit like this to happen.

Instead of adding value to their console, they bribe publishers to gimp the competitor's console. Typical MS.

Guess all the MS fanboys has something to cheer about I guess.

Guess now they can add Ass Creed to to their list of games which they can argue that "PS4 and X1 are the same in Power!"
