No, I'm denying that it's the primary motivator for innovation.
Did I mention the word primary or did I just say it drives innovation?
You're putting words in my mouth.

It's not hate.
It's that it makes no sense. Now, if this was a prediciton for October he has a much stronger case. But September, based on all retail rumblings and common sense, seems to be a slam dunk for Sony.
That's why people "hate" (lol), because it just doesn't make sense.
NONO Pachy, it doesn't work that way. You must stand by your prediction
It wasn't reported by MS though. It was reported by Shanghai Media Group vice-president Zhang Dazhong.
This needs to be said in about 20 threads a day around here. People clearly discussing the two big competing consoles, and someone interjects "but PC!".
So you're changing your argument? Because it seems like a much weaker point if you're going based on the question you're asking here.
Pacter Tweet
It will be fun re-reading some of the posts in this thread after the real results are out. Pachtroll created a lot of false hopes in the hearts of many a fanboy.

Titanfall and fh2 are also on 360.
Similar vein to indie games and PSN but you're allowed to bring up PC in that case because.
I didn't put words into your mouth, I asked a question: "Competition is the primary driver of innovation? According to what model?"Did I mention the word primary or did I just say it drives innovation?

Previously consumers would get consoles from Hong Kong for a crazy amount of money.
I always thought Pachter kept tabs with retailers to make these predictions. He's really just guessing based on what promotions each company is running for a given month? I thought he had extra information?

If you don't think it is the primary driver, all you had to do was say so.
Out of curiosity, how has the WiiU been faring against the PS4 and the XBone? I've been getting the impression it hasn't done as well as the Wii had last gen.

Work as an economist for the government.Where can I get myself a lucrative job where I get to make "educated" guesses and still keep my job when I am wrong numerous times every year?
No, I am not backtracking. It was a question, based on how your comment read to me. All you had to do was respond "no, it is not the primary driver, that's not what I meant, but it is indeed important." There are people in this thread who seem to think that competition is indeed the primary driver of innovation. So, your comment was worth asking if you thought the same. You implied that's what I had said. That's obvious from your comment.
Now you are backtracking.
All I said was that it is a driver of innovation, which it is. Nobody other than you mentioned the word primary. You constructed a strawman.
I think most of us are baffled at him underminding the Destiny deal with Activision because of two free games. Nintendo offered a free game with Mario Kart 8 and it did nothing to stop PS4 sales. The normal gamer does not keep up with games outside of marketing and word of mouth.
Hello Fellow Babies... Pachter is a plonker.
And they're clearly selling better on Xbox One based on the limited sales numbers we've seen. It's a silly semantic when making sales predictions, the 360 is no longer doing big sales in hw or sw.
Lol at Pach melting down.
Uhm...the Wii U is getting slaughtered by PS4, XBO has passed it in the US and probably UK but overall? We don't know, it sells below Wii U from time to time in the European Unions different Nations.
Ask GFK come march.
I thought swiftdeath was the gaf consensus.Wait, who's opinion from GAF should I, I mean, we should all take the same opinion..
Yea, as a consumer the PS2 era of single console dominance was horrible for games. I mean yuck.

This is a hobbyist forum and like any, people like to discuss every detail of the hobby. It's not just an interest in games but an interest in the industry as well. People like to know a lot about all the developers, their studios, contracts, publishing, etc etc....Any info anyone can get their hands on is discussed readily here.I have never posted in a 'sales' thread, but I'm genuinely, honestly curious - I've read the last 800 or so posts, and I find myself asking - Why do people care so much?
I'm reading so much passion and vitriol, and I just don't understand why a consumer would care how much their console of choice has sold?
I only own an Xbone and a fairly meaty gaming PC, and I can't help but feel that as soon as I have posted this snippet of information, it will give some sort of confirmation of bias, and that any future posts of mine will be devalued or ignored entirely.
I'm not posting this as some form of insult to those that do care about sales and NPDs, but more a desire to form some understanding of some of the enjoyment these threads seem to give people.
Apologies if this thread was not the place to make that enquiry!
I think it is because it provides more justification that they bought the right console.I have never posted in a 'sales' thread, but I'm genuinely, honestly curious - I've read the last 800 or so posts, and I find myself asking - Why do people care so much?
