I don't think the story or characters are meant to be taken seriously anyway, but some reviews actually loved those aspects as well. At any rate, this game at the core is about pure zany fun and pure chaos in a colorful apocalyptic playground that gets crazier and crazier as you level up. It hits the notes I wanted it to.

Y'know...health, green boxes, trash, fetch quests? It's funny, right? Because, you know, the character is saying that it's a video game and everything? Sounds like physical torture, as is often the case when a game's humor does not resonate with me at all. I guess then you just have to skip it\mute it any way you can and just hope the game is fun.

I agree - the game always looked fun to me. I think that since the negative impressions/previews in threads got so much more attention and discussion compared to the rest, it might have influenced some perceptions of how the game would review overall.

and every good thread there was: this is gonna flop, this looks boring, looks so boring, gonna get low scores.

And then 3-4 bad threads were made about various things, one a preview about some bad feelings a reviewer was having and every damn post was about how bad it looked, how it will flop, how bad the art was, how it looked like a last gen game, etc. Seriously i could of kept going for another paragraph about all the shit said.

People were down right hoping and praying it would be bad and talked all kinds of shit. why can't people point it out?

On topic, I guess I'm one of the few guys who enjoyed Fuse lol (played in coop), so I wasn't afraid about the quality of this game. Insomniac Games knows their stuff

I'd agree this game has had some almost 'forensic' threads made about it. That Videogamer preview one last week was amazing. You could really feast on some of the silly quotes from that thread...

But this is a decent thread and their is no need to call people out, They're probably pissed off enough as it is. The true delight is them having to stomach this thread and those great review scores. And also know people will be playing and enjoying this game later, while they're out kicking rocks.

I guess you should drag in a list of names and quotes of neogaffers here into the review thread and ridicule each person because professional journalists gave the game a collective 8.3. See how that flies. Personally I'll stay out of it.
 
Perhaps I just don't sift through metacritic very often, but is it common that the majority of the major publications score a game higher than it's metacritic? Not to discredit the lower scores as they are just as valuable, but it seems like 90% of the big players (IGN, EGM, Polygon, GI, Joystiq, Destructoid, Biogamer Girl ) scored this thing 8.5 or higher. Does this normally happen?

Yup, I believe it was the videogamer "preview" video. A lot of replies in there saying

"I knew it would suck"

"Looks awful"
 
I have no problem with anyone gloating over high review scores for an exclusive game. But I will still take the Sony exclusives and better performance on 3rd party games over the ability to play this one any day.
 
Well I might not be buying this game for a while, I am glad it scored well after the disaster that was Fuse. If it comes to the PC, then I am all for it. I wonder how many bosses are in the game?

I will eat crow on this. I was expecting somewhere between 70-75 on MC. The style is still a little off-putting for me, but for those who like it, I'm glad they'll get to enjoy a good game.

This is the last post I'm making about this.

I literally never brought up fanboyism at all. You're the first person between the two of us to bring up being a console warrior. If you misinterpreted my comments, that's not my problem.

I was merely pointing out how there has been so much said that was negative about the game, it got positive reviews, and (almost) nobody has honed up to their (now confirmed to be wrong) comments about it being a bad game.

Let's put this to bed.

I heard from NeoGaf that games that aren't funny(to them personally) have a direct impact on gameplay, sound and my overall enjoyment of a video game. I almost shot myself in the foot and bought this. So glad I read these threads ahead of time to get a fair and balanced view point from people who haven't even played the game. You are truly heroes of all the Internets. Thanks for making videos an enjoyable experience!

Once more, I thought this looked like utter shit, and I am amazed that it seems to be an enjoyable experience. I hope I get to try it at some point.
 
I'm happy and sort of surprised the game is reviewing well. I sort of expected middling scores but I suppose a lot of it was due to the negativity the game was getting early on. The GAF effect I suppose.

Nice to see a game with more than 4 colors in it's palette get good reviews, hopefully customers will buy the hell out of this game and vindicate Insominac

I'm just pointing out his right to call people out on comments generally intended to downplay and dishearten fans about a game just because it is on another platform.

I didn't intend to get upset.
 
In a weird way Im looking forward to the humour just to see how cringey it is.

You can take just as much humour from the fact it has awful humour.
