I was thinking of making a DC Comics Community thread in the community forum. Marvel gets multiple threads for its events and movies and whatever they do. I'm sure there is some like minded DC fans on GAF that would like to talk about DC related stuff without having to debate. I would like to have discussions about Futures End, Eternal, Worlds End, Multiversity and any upcoming DC events. I don't want to have to go through 3-6 pages per day and try and find discussion on these topics. I want to come into a thread and and the discussion be there. This thread has become too big. It's more of an Community thread now.

Funny. I've been wanting a Marvel Comics thread because I'm completely uninterested in the constant DC talk in here. There absolutely should be two threads. Both publishers are big enough to justify it.

I actually don't think you'll get the audience unless Ben Affleck makes an appearance in Multiversity or something.

The "DC stay losing" thing has just become a GAF meme for movie nerds, like gifs for wrestling, that puppet thing for PonyGAF or waifu stuff for anime/manga. I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

I also wouldn't start a thread for a DC event until a new one actually starts. You do one for Future's End, you'll get ten pages of "WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO READ 27 ISSUES AND A BUNCH OF TIE-INS? FUCK THIS COMPANY!" Best to start on the ground floor. It'll be difficult though.

It wouldn't be just tied to one event, it would just be overall DC comics.

Why does it feel like ComicGAF is getting a divorce?

This is like when the nwo got too big and they split off into the nwo Wolfpack.

As long as I get to be Randy Savage. OOOOOOH YEAAAAAAH! THE CREAM OF THE CROP! *hacks*

It wouldn't be just tied to one event, it would just be overall DC comics.

Sorry, I thought you wanted to start an event thread since you brought up the Axis and other OTs. I don't really see the point of it though. It would be like having "WWE" and "wrestling" threads, or a "PC gaming" thread alongside the Steam thread.

The talk is probably not as lopsided as you think. There have been times were I feel like all the talk is Marvel. I just think you come in here wanting to see discussion about a certain topic and it's not happening. You try and post something and it just get buried.

Separate threads for each big publisher? Gross. You're more than free to open up discussion on anything comics related here and equally free to ignore discussion on any topic that's brought up. Why change that?

if ya'll niggas would've voted for something that wasn't Harley, none of this shit would have happen

It reminds me of that time on the Simpsons that Bart lost the class president election because nobody bothered to vote for him.

"I demand a recount!"
"One for Harley, two for Harley."

I prefer to keep everything here. All three of the books that placed for October were DC books. They put out some genuinely good stuff. I don't think there's any bias against DC in this thread, at least none meant to be taken seriously. Sure we may joke about DC, but the same thing occurs when Marvel is the topic of conversation. Both publishers do things that warrant such comments.

Splitting discussion threads by publisher would be annoying, then I'd have to keep track of multiple threads. Marvel movies get discussion threads because Marvel movies are plentiful, and on the whole, very good. When DC starts making movies of that caliber outside Batman, we can talk.

I don't really like the idea of doing separate Marvel or DC threads

If that were to happen, I'd probably just stop posting in comics threads here. I like the fact that we can talk about any book from any publisher. Yeah, sometimes a question or post can get buried, but that's the nature of any fast-moving thread or forum. We're doing fine for the most part, we've got a nice gang of regulars and we're pretty friendly to anyone who wants to start reading or whatever.

I could have sworn that for the longest time, I was next to the only dude who pulled a Marvel list exclusively. Nobody gives a shit about my Velvet or my extreme Walking Dead obsession, but I haven't gone anywhere yet. I come for the people, not necessarily the books.

I'm sorry if my over excitement about Harley has soured this thread and turned some people in the thread against a legitimately great book. I have failed you ComicsGAF.

Really I am sorry.

WAT? I love Velvet. And I read Walking Dead. Buy it, even!

Exactly. This thread is more about regulars shooting the shit than it is discussion about on-going story arcs.

Lol I know and you're like the only one.

I am going to make a Walking Dead OT sooner than later, but it's because Walking Dead is just to big to handle.
Sort of like my D.

But yeah, I've said it to a couple of you in person, and I'll say it here as well: Comics are fucking GREAT. I love them. GH and I have had some awesome discussions about the medium.

I'm also a real human being as well, and I consider a bunch of you regulars friends; but comics can only stretch a friendship so thin.

A lot of you are awesome. I'll probably end up meeting some of you in real life. I travel, I do comic con and all that shit...so there has to be something other than comics to talk about. If we're sitting there shooting the shit, and someone busts out some shit about their favorite colorist or whatever...I'm gonna give you the weirdest fucking look.

It's about more than comics peeps. It's about you.

Yeah, but. A DC thread. A Marvel thread. Then what about the most important comics? Is this the big 2 trying to crush everything else?

GTFO, Marvel gets a thread for just about every event they have and I say I might make a DC thread and people threaten to not post in comics threads anymore? Please.

I say don't split Comics-GAF, I love all the discussion and read most of it regardless of what company people are talking about. Just my thoughts on the thing.

Otherwise we'll end up with Comics-GAF: Civil War, with Mark Millar and Rafa plotting and Kipp doing the artwork.

I kind of want that, minus Millar.

I don't see what the issue is. I lean Marvel but I would certainly post in both threads. Can't miss any discussion of dat Snyder Batman.

I can't imagine ComicsGAF ever having sterile conversations about story arcs. The personalities here are what make me care about the stories and recommendations. Like I know if Cheska recommends something then I will likely enjoy it. Because I know what she is like and what kinds of stuff she likes.

Every indie I buy I got into because of this place. Every single one. I used to pull just dc and Marvel before I came here. Now I pull more image than anything else.

And what if we wanted to make cross-publisher comparisons? Would have to post the same thing in both threads? Madness!

I think the publisher specific threads would focus more on storylines and stuff while the main OT is still functioning could work. Hypothetically.

Sure. Go for it. What harm is it. No one is closing ComicsGAF. See it it works out. Hopefully you get the discussion you wish for.

In my case, I just don't see where you're going to get an audience outside of splitting the regulars here. There's already a Batman vs. Superman thread, and I feel like most of your drive-by guys are just going to shit on your thread with "All DC has is Batman", "DC sux outside of based Nolan", "Wasn't Heart of Ice rad?" and other monotonous drivel.

You'll get Millar and you'll like it.

"When I was a wee lad in Scotland, I would only browse the Comics thread on GAF. It was a bargain and featured some of their greatest posters. The comics thread should be only ComicGAF's Mightiest Heroes. What the fuck is a Messi, anyway?" - Actual quote from Mark Millar.

Mass hysteria.

but I am taking tiny steps forward

Could it be possible that the posts about the DC weeklies aren't necessarily being buried, but people aren't interested in them enough to talk about them?
I know Jedeye only reads Futures End because of how bad it is and the only things Rafa says about Futures End are reflections on why he's wasted so much money on such a bad weekly. And from the Batman Eternal posts I've read, people seem to be sort of enjoying it, but mostly it's just mediocre. In general, mediocre books don't warrant much discussion. Nobody really wants to talk about how they were vaguely entertained by a comic or how they weren't all too shocked at all about how a comic ended.

Realistically, do you really think a separate thread would spark discussion even though there's mostly apathy towards those weeklies among the people who are reading them?

I don't think the problem is that the signal to noise ratio is too low in this thread. I think the problem is that not everyone wants to discuss everything everyone else wants to discuss. I know I probably only get a response on a quarter of the posts I write about books I'm currently reading. I don't think that's because my posts are getting lost in the mix of more off-topic posts though, I think it's because nobody has anything they want to add to the discussion. And I'm okay with that. I know that if I keep posting about stuff I'm enthusiastic about, I'll eventually get a response and a discussion.

Anyways, just a few thoughts on this whole situation.

I don't think a DC-dedicated thread is warranted. You're just going to discuss DC comics there, which you already do here. Marvel gets all of those other threads (very few of which I ever visit BTW), because Marvel is way more popular with Joe Average due to the existence of the Marvel Movieverse. If DC gets something like that going, it may happen with DC down the line, too. But for right now, it's not necessary.

It seems that you just prefer DC to Marvel, which is fine.

To be honest, ComicsGAF is the only reason I'm still on this forum. It'd break me to see you guys split up and potentially drag this group into further obscurity. Then again, I'm only a recent regular, and in most of your eyes I've probably contributed to very little in the time I've been here, so I don't really know if I have a say in this. Just my two cents.

Brah needs to be humbled, if you've ever worked at WalMart or any other retail/grocery job, only then can you reach the true path to enlightenment and comics superstardom.

Exactly. This thread is more about regulars shooting the shit than it is discussion about on-going story arcs.

The problem is, there's only so much you can talk about comics. Do you really think we could maintain active discussion for a full 7 days after new comics are released if we strictly stuck to discussing comics?
I think we're discussing comics exactly as much as we used to, but as we all get to know each other more, the tangential and off-topic discussions build.

But yeah, I've said it to a couple of you in person, and I'll say it here as well: Comics are fucking GREAT. I love them. GH and I have had some awesome discussions about the medium.

Sure. Go for it. What harm is it.

The only thing coming this topic from being moved to community(or closed down entirely) is the idea that we occasionally talk about comics in-between all the girly avatars and girly statues and Rafa superstar teasing. You break off into DC and Marvel threads, what is this thread gonna be? Image comics and Messi posts? Thread will be shut down permanently before the end of the of the year.

Maybe the problem is nobody wants to talk about Future's End or whatever gimmick DC is doing this month. You'll get an OT with 3-4 regulars before it dies down over the weekend again, and the same thing for Marvel. You'll split threads up, apathy will grow, and then nobody will talk about anything. Not to mention it just cause even more stupid Marvel vs DC comic fanboy wars.

You want to talk about comics, do it in the comics thread. If nobody wants to talk about your comics, making an OT for them aint gonna do it any good either. For every one positive, potential reason for separate-but-equal, there's two more against it.
