DORITOS Presents: SONY vs. MICROSOFT 2014 THE HYPERBOWLLLLL

Yeah 350$ with GTA V is a no way in Sony's book. But I can see them doing 400$. But if they pull something like Destiny, where you pay 450$ and get a game. I don't think that's going to work this holiday.

What if it's a special edition GTAV PS4 instead of a regular bundle?

Still waiting for the GTAV bundle. We're about 2 weeks away and no signs of it. I dont think its gonna happen.

They could make it a buy one PS4, get GTAV for free, but not a specific packed in bundle. It would be easier than creating all the bundles, and they could just call that deal in at any time really.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony did very little and still win November by a few hundred thousand.

I expect it. Mindshare is not easily turned by a quick price drop. At this point there is a trend of better and better deals, so waiting it out is a real option.

How much is MS willing to bleed for the US?

As a PS4 owner, i'd love to see MS win this month (and next) so that Sony might be more inclined to put out some deals benefitting PS owners. Maybe they scramble after losing two straight months and put out an enticing Bloodborne edition PS4 bundle?

Looking like XB1 is doing really well just now with the new deals so I think they will win pretty easily.

Like others have said though it's one country for one or two months, doubt Sony will be concerned.

They had some great deals throughout September too and got outsold 538K to 284K.

Xbox One will not win any month "pretty easily".

$400 GTAV and Far Cry 4 bundles would be good deals. LB3 should have a bundle too(I think does in Europe).

Is it weird to suggest we wait till tomorrow since it's the first Monday of November? Possible announcement regarding plans for this month? Seems weird to not do so earlier, but would also make some sense to to it tomorrow OR sometime this week even.

They should do the Bloodborne bundle regardless of what happens.

Sony hasn't had to do anything up to this point. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, Sony as a corporation is bleeding money. It's likely using the revenue from PlayStation to keep itself in the green rather than re-investing heavily into the brand.

Well they won't win every US months during 7 years.....

Agree with this too. I think Sony learned from last gen and will be somewhat aggressive, learned from both themselves and MS.

Did people forget Microsoft won last December? Didn't exactly do anything in the long term. It's telling that Microsoft needs insane bundles to even stay close.

Sad but yes we all forgot, I know I did...lol.

What happens if Sony loses in the U.S. in November?

Then all of SONY's previous winnings over its competitors this generation means nothing, the most recent one is the one that counts, also whoever wins the NPD will also be immediately worldwide leader in sales.

Of course. I meant official bundles that are accompanied by a marketing push.

But Sony doesn't really have the greatest marketing, they did for Destiny, and are running some nice 4thePlayers commercials, but that's about it.

You should never underestimate the marketing push that Black Friday Ads have, especially as they start leaking this week (I predict, since they haven't already) and people start sniffing those deals out. If retailers are going to do some of their own bundles, the Black Friday Ads will do all the marketing for Sony.

lol that's too much money. Considering they are all brand new games. But hollyshit yeah that would sell shit load of consoles.

MS has to do all it can to be competitive at least in a country where it once dominated. They are going all out.Sony has no need to freak out or its fans because of NPD numbers. Relax people, it's the 2nd of the month. Sony won last November when there was no PS4 in stock with big pushes at the end of the month.

The only thing they could do to compete IMO is making the GTA V Bundle $350 here. I don't know if they can do that though -- especially since the game is a retail copy instead of a digital code.

That's not going to happen. If we do get a GTA V bundle, it will be $400 at the least, which still be more than enough to compete.

Do either of those bundles exist? (I know GTA V does in Europe, but in the US?).

From what I understand, MS isn't doing an MCC bundle period. (for the US)

They handily outsold MS last month when MS was giving a game away for free. Meanwhile the PS4 bundle with the same game was $50 more expensive. You'll see the usual Amazon black friday bundles.

Their competition shouldn't have been a higher price or equal in the first place. It's the lesser of the two systems, so it's foolish to charge the same price.

Game consoles have never worked this way (since different consoles with unique pros/cons, and have different value to different customers and are not just simply different models of graphics cards)

If they don’t react they’re going to lose November and December NPD for sure (but not by much). But losing two months in the USA won’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things and they know it.

Europe and the rest of the world will ensure that the global gap is even bigger after the holidays are over despite losing two months in the USA. And in 2015 they will proceed to steamroll through the entire year.

What I expect if Sony does nothing is this:
-MS winning Nov and Dec NPD
-Massive PR and gloating from MS being shouted from the highest mountaintops
-2:1 global ratio holds (or increases) at the end of the holidays
-PS4 attains >50% marketshare in 2015

From the look of it, they are giving the last two months to Microsoft. They aren't going toe to toe in pricing or in the extreme agressiveness in bundling. They are going to take the profits they make from sales of the consoles and PS+. Europe will go to the PS4, uncontested and very profitable. PS4 should have big sales in the 1st quarter of 2015 alongside The Order and Bloodborne.

They will lose most of the lead they had in one country, but I don't think it's worth flushing away all of your profit in the PS division for that one country.

Xbox One bundles are doing well because they have a lot of value. New gen console and free games with those free games being part of really big gaming franchises (Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed). They are new entries in the series too so that helps a lot.

Why would that be all they could do? A GTAV bundle at $399 would do just fine. I think Sony can sit at $50 more than the Xbox and still sell better at the moment.

Or offer a deal like the MS one a while ago - buy a PS4 bundle and get a fire first party game download (TLoU, Infamous, drive club, LBP3)

Or both

I think they will. You congratulate Microsoft for running a great price cut promotion. But if they don't outsell Sony significantly this Holiday, and barely cut into the sales advantage Sony has right now (some say approx. 1 million) then you have to wonder at what cost was a November and maybe December win? $50 off the Xbox One Console has to cut into Microsoft's bottom line. I know, I know, they have this infinite war chest. But it is still a business, and if Microsoft is willing to lose money on console sales this holiday for some NPD wins, then more power to them. But one question will remain, how long will the Postseason, or "when it counts" continue for the Xbox One? Can they sustain the momentum? Can they raise the price back up after this 2 month promotion? It will be fun to watch as January rolls around.

What they could do is 399$ GTA V + Infamous SS Bundle

Unfortunately that's a plan that is destined to kill the moneymaker if that is what they are doing.

But that is why it gets harder to save yourself the more in the hole you get.

Arrogant Sony is back

They moved 3 million last quarter & close to 3 million the quarter before that so they will move over 3 million this quarter thanks to the holidays. chances are Sony biggest problem is going to be meeting demand so there is no reason for them to cut prices & force bundles right now because everything is going to move this holiday.

Pretty sure they will never re-increase the price.

What is interesting is that SCEE is doing tactical moves to keep PS4 price competitive in Europe. Price cuts on the FIFA bundle, a price cut this weekend, and lots of bundles. It does seem conspicuous how quiet SCEA are being. Even if they are waiting for later in the month, surely they don't want to let MS build up any momentum or word of mouth?

I wonder if they are concerned about supply? Sales didn't seem to soften much since launch so maybe they haven't had the opportunity to build up stocks for the holiday season, and are therefore wary about creating too much of a spike in demand?

Europe already has bundles, and some places dropping the price to €350.

Sony doesn't have to do anything, and I'm pretty sure they don't care about dropping one month to MS, even though that isn't a guarantee.

I also can't imagine Sony has enough breathing room as MS for dropping prices.

I find it hard to believe that Sony will lose "most of the lead they had" in the US in just 2 months. If Sony has an approximate 1 million console sale lead in the US, do you really think the Xbox One is going to outsell the PS4 by more than 500,000 consoles in 2 months? Its not like the PS4 is simply going to stop selling just because Microsoft has a $50 off price cut.

Yeah, not sure what Sony is doing. They kinda have nothing going into Nov and Dec, so there really is nothing to bundle in the US. They have a GTA V bundle in Europe, but not sure what the point of that is since 90% of Europe is Sonyland anyways. I guess its to get ahead in UK.

But back to NA, they still have Destiny which I suppose they can push. But they really should create their own bundle. I really shouldn't cost that much to include Infamous and TLOU in there.

Also, not sure why Sony is so fucking stingy on creating custom PS4's. Shit, it doesn't even have to be a completely new skin. The PS4 comes with a removable plate, it would be so easy to drop in a few of these.

I'm not saying these specifically, just that its that easy to swap them out and it looks pretty damn good.

I dunno. I don't get Sony sometimes.

The Xbox was heavily beaten by ps4 last month when they were giving a game out free with every purchase. Ps4 has momentum and is in the zeitgeist for consumers and gamers. They'll do fine.

Not sure, it's the 20th anniversary of Playstation, they've got a massive event scheduled early december and I don't see them doing nothing on the sales front

Didn't I read that consoles generally do ~40% of their year's business in the holidays?

Yeah, that's a win in the books already.

lol

They "won" December because you could not get a PS4 anywhere.

...MS has their work cut out for them right now. Lets also not forget that Titanfall, Destiny and the Kinect less SKU didnt even help the XBO win previous months.

MS should just focus on XBO sales in comparison to 360 sales. Or XBO sales on their own merit as in compared to previous months.

Isn't because they have more room to play with prices because of the conversion rates?

Also I think they are holding out on GTA to the very last minute for the sake of FC4 's deal they got going ?

They've seen demand all year, I fail to believe they couldn't have arranged supply to deal with this quarter where we are expecting them to ship like 6m WW.

You cray bro.
