DORITOS Presents: SONY vs. MICROSOFT 2014 THE HYPERBOWLLLLL

There is nothing Sony can do in Q1 that would salvage the loss of holiday sales and subsequent momentum. Is Sony going to just pretend that people are going to give each other Christmas presents two months later? That is almost as absurd as pretending people are going to buy a $599 console because it's a PlayStation. You just never know if it's PS2 Sony or PS3 Sony that you're dealing with sometimes.

A price drop is exactly what Sony needs to nail the coffin shut but they can't seem to afford that killer mentality in the face of the mythical "desperate Microsoft."

joke post lol

Sony wanted to be in a position to price drop if necessary.

Well, the Sunset Overdrive bundle is now selling at $85 above retail.

Sony, I'd say it's pretty fucking necessary.

Are you crazy? Sony has absolute no need to lower prices, maybe next year but considering how well PS4 is selling I doubt it they will end up doing that.

Sony better be ready to make some drastic moves. Or they're done for. /s

Lol it's 2 days into November ppl, stop using amazon as your source. Use your head.

Obvious joke post lol.

Sony will wait and react just like anyone with a nearly 2:1 market lead and goodwill on their side.

Xbox One is not $150 cheaper with free games a year later because they love you. It's because they realize now that losing two holidays puts them in a situation where they lose close second, and where they lose hundreds of millions of third party sales (licensing fees) on their system over the next 6-7 years. Not only that but they lose Xbox Live subscribers. Those xbox 360 subscribers jumping ship to PS+ is probably what hurts their business the most. Xbox live fees were a tremendous source of revenue for them in the 360 generation and Sony is going to get that money from the people who will sub just to play GTA and Call of Duty and Madden all year.

People will be buying those games on PS4 and Sony will get the licensing money and further gain their lead when more and more are playing on PSN and will buy a PS4 to play with those on PSN.

If Sony don't get the Bloodborne bundle down to $80 at launch, they're going to get stomped by MS and Nintendo, especially in mainland Europe.

Obviously the Vita is about to explode though, so Sony is safe.

Microsoft is pulling out the big guns for the holiday season. I was seriously considering picking up a SO bundle at that 349$ price point. Though I have the cash, I just can't justify buying a console for a few exclusives. I'll be getting all the multiplats on PS4, and the only exclusives i'm interested in (SO, MCC, Gears, Quantum) aren't enough to convince me to go through with it.

With that said, I hope all those who picked up an xbone enjoy it!

PC gaming is dead joke and PC gaming is best joke in one.

MS is hungry. OS updates coming fast, exclusive deals, bundles, and sales. They're just a company so I didn't hold much against them. There is nothing evil about MS, this is just a bunch of consumer hyperbole.

People have also forgiven Sony, guess that doesn't count though since they're not on the chopping block at the moment?

The only thing Sony did wrong with the PS3, was the $599 price tag.

MS with Xbox One? They did much, much worse than that.

I'd much prefer a preemptive strike by Sony though.

Seriously, as a Junior, tread very carefully with that kind of stuff. Sometimes it's better to just step back and observe in contentious threads. Mods will ban more liberally than anywhere else when things get nasty and you may find yourself permanently banned for something you viewed as minor. It's better not to risk it.

Not really, NPD threads have become very tame for the most part.

Fun fact: PS4 was around $600 in Europe at launch, sold out for months.
PS3 was close to $1000 at launch.

No regrets when i bought it at launch still no regrets now, its the only model that has almost 100% BC. Only game i couldn't play was Jak & Daxter :(

I think PS3's Euro launch price was closer to $750 (as it was £475 if I remember correctly), and even then that was for the 60GB/wi-fi model. People always exclude the 20GB version when they talk about the PS3 launch price, which is bizarre given it had the same HDD size as the premium 360, which also excluded wi-fi.

It was $600 in the US but adjust that number for inflation and it comes out to $742. Imagine that $742 spent on today's consoles.

Sony doesn't need to do shit but sit back and count money. We don't know about black friday deals so keep that in mind.

I'm all for console warz. Is this the official thread? I'd like to know before going down a path of trash talking. The only consolation prize is that XOne and PS4 owners look at the Nintendo Wii U like.... *waits for confirmation on whether or not it's okay to trash talk* Basically, we treat Nintendo like Android and iOS fanboys treat Windows Phone.

Sony should add some of the XOne's voice controls. Let me control the console without using the dpad at all i.e. launch games without using the dpad.

Microsoft definitely have better exclusives this fall with Forza Horizon 2, Sunset OverDrive and Halo MCC. Sony had Drive Club which was a flop with all it's issues that are still on going. They have LittleBigPlanet 3 which I think will not perform that well. And Guilty Gear Xrd which is really niche and also available on PS3.

However I still think MS even with their aggressive pricing and better exclusive line up will only outsell PS4 in November by a small margin and only in US. It's not a big deal. It's 2015 is what we should think about. Here is the 2015 retail line up as it stands.

Xbox One
Quantum Break
Fable Legends
Halo 5
Rise of The Tomb Raider (Time Exclusive)
Scalebound or Crackdown or Phantom Dust (I assume one of these will make it for 2015)

PS4
Bloodborne
The Order 1886
Tearaway Unfolded
Ratchet and Clank
Until Dawn
WiLD

IF you also include Sony exclusives and not just PS4 exclusives
Ys (also on VIta)
Dragon Quest Heroes (also on PS3)
Disgaea 5 (also on PS3)
Persona 5 (also on PS3)

Where is Uncharted 4 on your list? It will be the best selling exclusive next year.

Honestly the new bundles remind me of the holiday season (1996 iirc) where Sega introduced a bundle giving three of their high profile games (Virtua Cup, Virtua Fighter and Daytona USA) for free with the console. I don't recall if they undercut on that but Sony still dominated them so it couldn't have turned the tide that much.

I've always equated the PS4 vs. xbone rivalry to the PS vs. Saturn one as Sega tried to similarly charge a $100 premium for a weaker console and ended up getting embarrassed by Sony at E3 afterwards with them annoying their console at a lower price afterward. They also made other mistakes that caused problem, Sega did a badly botched stealth launch at select retailers when no games were available, gained no momentum from it and alienated some retailers while MS pissed people off with the Drm stuff although they did back track on it.

I think MS has done a good job of repositioning it's console, so I'm kind of surprised it's getting outsold so badly. I guess we'll see how it goes from here though.
