Halo MCC's 20gb day-one patch is live

Ok, 15gb. For a day-one patch that's insanely large. Why didn't they just ship it on two discs?

Because they reached the point where the game needed to go gold and start printing discs, but they were still working on the multiplayer stuff.

I have the GAME special edition with steel tin case and map book but.. this would be great to have digitally to play on the fly any time. The entire Halo quadrilogy at the touch of a button no messing is kinda tempting.

What do?

Awesome! Last question. Why does it still show a status of "Updating"? Do I need to keep the console on until it completes, or am I good to turn it off now?

When I downloaded the game a week or so ago, it completed and went into my games, whereas it's currently sitting in Queued status, which worries me. I don't want to turn the console off and then completely screw up the process and set myself back to square one.

This will be my first digital game ever, and I only did it because I knew I would never sell, ease of use (not having to switch out discs, and not having to worry about ordering a physical copy. That said, they really need to fix this process, it should be seamless. You hit the button to pay for it in advance, and simply forget about it and it should do the rest.

That sometimes happens to me. Think it might be a bug.

Put the cursor over the Halo MCC icon and press the menu button (three horizontal lines). Pause it and then start it again. That should work.

Honestly, I think it's simply a problem with what's being displayed on screen instead of an actual problem with the game file itself.

Yeah I don't think so. The only reason they held back all 15gb is because they could not fit it on one disc. I'm sure they polished some code between going gold and release, but not 15gb of code.

Even when putting your console in standby and waiting 5-15 minutes before waking it up ?

That's what I did at noon and it started downloading.

Just make sure you enabled auto download of updates when in standby mode.

I have auto update enabled, my console has always been set to the instant on mode. I did that when I went to sleep, woke up 6 hours later, still nothing. Hard reset the box, put it back on instant on mode, 2 hours later, still nothing.

Maybe the update isn't out in my region yet.

Ok, just paused and restarted the installation. It had been stuck for the better part of an hour. Can't imagine it would take that long if it wasn't stuck or there wasn't an issue.

Crossing my fingers I can get this thing fully installed so I can relax a bit, lol.

I'm reviewing the game, and I've had issues with the patch so far. Had to boot up the game last night to make it realize a patch was available. Checked just now, and it was at "Ready to Start", but I still can't play MP. When I try to select it from the in-game menu, it tells me it's still installing at 76%. Then it drops to 50%. Now it's at 51.5%.

So that's neat.

had to boot it up too and restart install once to make it work. Now I've got everything but I can't connect for the life of me. Will see in a few hours.

As other people mentioned, probably a combination of factors:

- Xbox One OS probably doesn't support multiple disc installs yet (and it may have been too late in the process before they realized they needed to do this)
- Multiplayer wasn't done yet. When they had the IGN Multiplayer stream, there were still things they couldn't show because of bugs

I'm amazed they don't allow preloading for all games period....and then don't unlock unless you bought digitally or put the disc in.

I'm going to be mad if I do not get the update before launch. That's the main reason I went digital...
I don't know if you already did say it but :
- how much space left on your hard drive ?
- what is the size of the game right now on your console ?

Sorry if you have already checked but right now I don't have any idea as it seems to be available everywhere.

Both of those are fine.

198 gb free
45.6 gb on the game.

I have the same issue and I'm in the USA.

It downloaded after I went to sleep last night. I wish I had a better idea of what causes it to start downloading but oh well.

5 days HYPE.

Based on my google search and the forums I came across if yours is stuck on 100% this is the error that occurs when you need to download the entire game over :/ Happened to me as well and this happened to a bunch of people with Advanced Warfare. Maybe give it some time but if it's still like that after a while... well.... bad news...

To be safe I went ahead and just deleted it and am downloading the entire thing again. it's downloading a file that's 59.1 GB.

I am torn. I want to buy digital as I can get the patch now and also have Halo multi accessible without a disk but I do love me some physical media.

This. I don't like digital. I love going and getting my games from a store and having them in my hands and on my shelf. Only reason I might have to go digital with this is because I kinda told my friend I would after they allowed me to download Call of Duty off their account.

I have more then 70gb free space on my HD, and the game size here is 45gb.

I did not receive the patch yet either. I really hope they're aware of this and are working on it.

Ps.: Auto update and instant on mode were turned on the entire night.

If the download was pushed after the time your console checks for update each night, it should get it next time it is turned off (with "instant on" mode enabled), or next night if it's not turned on at all today.

It seems to check for updates (system and games/apps) one or two times a day, and each time you put it in standby (after a couple of minutes), and also when you launch a game or app, but in case of preload we can't.

Before coming to work I've turned it off on instant mode (with auto update enabled) again. Hopefully when I get home it will be downloaded/downloading!

Thanks for the info!

Question: I'm planning on waiting to see if any physical copies of MCC have great deals before next week, if not i'll probably go digital BUT: If I get physical, when I do an 'install' or whatever, do I essentially get the same functionality as the pre-loaders? Like is there a way for physical copies to be forever installed for easy access on my console without disc swapping?

When they did the IGN Twitch stream last week they couldn't even do some maps because they were still having issues and weren't playable. I think they simply ran out of time and a second disc just wasn't viable.

It looks like i'm going to have to upgrade my internet when i finally get a next gen system. The size of the patches this gen are ridiculous.

I turned my Xbox off and on twice this morning and still no update. However I did get a notification saying something was ready, but it didnt say what. Just had a weird blocky symbol. I wan't able to press the guide button in time to see what it was and I couldn't do it again because I had to leave for work. That couldn't be it could it? It's supposed to start automatically right?

Disc vs digital is the same. Game is still installed to console.

The real difference is in DRM.

A disc based install does NOT install a license to the console. So when the game starts it will require the disc in the drive.

A digital install does install a license to the console, so no disc required.

Basically, on game launch DRM check is:
1) Does a console license exist? If yes, start game, if no goto 2)
2) Does an account license exist? If yes, start game, if no goto 3)
3) Is the game disc in the drive? If yes, start game, if no goto 4)
4) Display message asking user to purchase the game.

Got it, that's the answer I needed. Digital for me.

Still no update here. Any other people who are still waiting?

This can't possibly take this long, right? I checked my settings like 5 times now.
