maybe this FF is a parody

you guys ever consider that?

Or maybe it'll be a good film and everyone is all 'OMG' over an actors interpretation of a character BEFORE he's seen the finished film.

I mean... it really does seem like the obnoxious MCU defense force is out again. 'Oh, they'll screw this up. Give it to Marvel.' The film is directed by the guy from Chronicle, who carried that film above an awful script and made it visually lovely; it has a solid cast of actors; it's doing something new with the concept to differentiate it from the old versions and other comic-book films.

Now it could be awful, but so far we don't know enough about it. Which, IMO, I like. Stuff like The Avengers: AOU already has most of the story beats known to us, and in this day and age I like the idea of - shock - a studio not spoiling an entire film to promote a bunch more films.

The fact that there is virtually no publicity/marketing or footage for the film is a strong indication that Fox has no confidence in the FF and that they know they have a stinker on their hands.

And to be fair, I might not be the biggest Nolan fan, but his handling of the Batman franchise was done with respect(to the point where, y'know, regardless of the lack of the more fantastical elements within the Batman series, it still oozed those Batman feels).

Theres an old Batman Blog in the Internet called GothamAlley... The dude who owns the side shows were detailed off, how many details Nolan build in the movies.

Will be a pretty shitty movie without access to all the other characters that show up the in the book. Wolverine is basicly the only X-Person...

It's not due out until next August, dude. And they've already penciled in a sequel.

Besides, quality has nothing to do with it. Thor 2, MOS and X-Men Origins: Wolverine were all staggeringly mediocre, and made profits. Heck, Hunger Games is a God-awful crime against cinema and makes an absolute fortune.

I like chronicle too, but from what I hear about ff movie so far, my opinion is that it could be a good movie or even a great one. But it's not a fantastic four movie

Wait a solo gambit movie?

I like Gambit but uhh no thats gonna bomb hard.

Channing Tatum is starring. Don't know if that means anything for the film's potential success. No idea if they are planning to introduce him first in Apocalypse or if they'll just throw him out there.

At the SDCC, Avengers AOU, Ant-Man and even Batman v Superman, which doesn't come out for another 2 years, showed footage. Meanwhile FF which wrapped filming for sometime, has zero marketing or footage. That's pretty damning evidence that Fox has a critical and financial bomb on their hands.

The thing is, using buzzwords like "grounded", "gritty", and aiming for a younger, hip cast while focusing on taboos regarding the internet, that almost feels straight out of the last decade(00s).

We are past the first decade of the new millennium, and super hero movies have moved on from being the "gritty, grounded" shit that was being shoved in our faces during the 00s.

I understand your concern, but Josh Trank did really good work with dark and gritty (which is usually not my thing) in Chronicle, so I'm hopeful this will be a worthwhile reimagining after all.

Grounded and Gritty shouldn't be in the same time zone as the Fantastic Four.

Regardless of what he did with Chronicle, "grounded" and "gritty" goes against the very nature of the Fantastic Four.

I mean "Fantastic" is in the fucking title, if they wanted to make a "grounded" movie maybe they should be using another property.

Generally I agree with you. But even if it's more grounded (which I thought worked for Ultimate FF as a comic, at first), and gritty (which worked for the FF comic at times, I'm thinking of parts of Claremont's run), it can still have the same sense of familial bond that FF does. They've already made FF movies that try to hew close to the comics. I'm totally cool with them making something completely different if it makes for a good movie.

Dude, seriously?

Fantastic Four isn't going to get any serious press from SDCC with that level of competition.

They cannot possibly be serious. Hell, I don't even like Marvel that much, but even I can tell you this is an awful idea. Doom is amazing!

The part that boggles my mind is how many people are all 'HOW CAN THEY RUIN THE FANTASTIC FOUR?' and yet the comic-book is dying because no-one reads it, or has given a rats ass about it since Hickman split.

It is because many of us are just waiting for them to actually do a good interpretation of FF on the big screen. This will be the third big movie for them, and we still haven't gotten it. If it were the first attempt, I don't think people would be as upset about the little details we have gotten so far.

One thing I will say is I think the movie have a chance of being decent. I thought Chronicle was pretty good so maybe Josh Trank will surprise us (except with Doom's origins lol).

Literally them showing anything at all would have gotten more press than Ant-Man. Even if it was just just the uniforms or a scene of the team quarreling in the living room. We are talking about Marvel's first family. They hold a special place in the heart of everyone who enjoys Marvel comics.

It is creepy we haven't gotten anything from the movie. No teaser. no official on set photos, not bad Entertainment Weekly photoshops.

Nobody gives a shit about comic books period. Fantastic four sells around the same amount of comic books as captain america does every month unless one of them has a #1 or is being written by an "important" writer. Then they get a 30-50k bump which is nothing compared to comic books that usedto sell 500k plus

Dr. Doom - Brilliant scientist and sorcerer who wears medieval power armor and rules an isolationist country with an iron fist gets reduced to an angry nerd blogger.

Everybody's who's like "JUST GIVE IT A CHANCE, IT MIGHT BE GOOD" - I can't take anything you say seriously from this point on. If this were real life I'd ask you to wear tinfoil hats so I know to avoid you on the street.

Yes, the current FF book is underperforming, so let's just ignore every other part of these beloved characters' long history.

Yea but it could just as easily turn into a negative, especially if the footage looks bad. I mean can you even imagine the outrage if they unveiled lonely hacker DOOM at SDCC? The movie would have died right there.

I'm sure there would be riots even.

My point was that people get angry about a 'bad film' but don't support the comic. And, as a result, it's getting cancelled. If they really cared about the characters, they'd read the damn comic. The whole 'this film will suck' thing has a hipster vibe; a bunch of people rebelling against something they don't even buy monthly.

Your reasoning doesn't make sense. I enjoy the characters in the Avengers movies but I've never read the comics. I would find it stupid if they made Thanos a bullied kid from the inner city who finds the Time Gem or something. You can care about the quality and specifics of something (and support it in movie form) without also supporting the comics.
