Amiibo Discussion Thread

Is everyone having fun with their amiibos? I'm glad I only got one, since after the initial novelty of "beaming" him in for a few fights and tweaking his stats, I moved on. I haven't felt the need to use him again since I can't take him online or into co-op mode. What was Nintendo thinking giving these things such limited application? I have to say, as long as they prepared us for the arrival of the amiibo, they certainly fell far short of what could have been.

My advice is to go to a store where they aren't behind the counter.
I am guessing Gamestop is behind the counter?
Best Buy/Target/Walmart have them in open display.

not being able to use Amiibo as my co-op partners in Smash is currently my biggest complaint about the whole project. I wonder if that could possibly be patched in
Same.
I went back to Fantasy Life after Smash weekend.

As someone who doesn't own a WiiU or 3DS, I just like the way the amiibos look as far as toys go. I want to buy the Samus amiibo and put it on my computer desk lol

I've had plenty of fun customizing my villager. I loaded him up with speed boosts, and when I went home over the weekend, my friends and family took turns trying to take him down. The lack of co-op mentioned sucks, though, and it would be neat to see a game that really focuses on the amiibo. I'd say they rank below skylanders, but above disney infinity in terms of usefulness and uniqueness.

They can be used as parters in team-smash.

I think he means co-op for all star and classic mode

With what I hear about maxed amiibo fighters, I suspect they're not available in those modes because they would carry the player thought these modes most of the time. >.>

This is my second Amiibo, guys. Someone give me a reason to stop buying them

I have a good-looking Link.
Fox and Samus will follow shortly.
You can't stop them.
Ironically, they will stop me buying all, releasing too much amiibos.
I'll resist to buy other first wave amiibos until the second wave will hit. After that, I'll go for new victims...

Dear Colin,

Please accept our apologies once again for the delay in dispatching your order for the Wii U GameCube Contoller Super Smash Bros Edition. We can confirm stock is now in and we have began processing (which you may have seen already). We really appreciate your patience, as well as understanding on this matter as we know this has caused great inconvenience. Due to this we will be crediting your account by 5GBP which will be automatically deducted off your next purchase with us. This credit will be showing on your ShopTo account within 24 hours.

Kind Regards,

The ShopTo Team

So...£5 off my next Amiibo?

Either way, Captain Falcon is the next thing I got pre-ordered with them.

I would have understood a few months ago when Nintendo was still being stingy with details on amiibo implementation, but the info is out there now, and none of it is misleading. No, it's not like Skylanders or Disney Infinity, but they never promised it would be. It's up to the consumer to educate themselves on the products they buy. It's like buying the new Digimon game and then complaining because you thought it would be like Pokemon since they sound similar.

Actually, I heard this mother complain in a store to the employee that the Mario game wasn't working on a playstation. That was clearly Nintendo's fault.

I did indeed.

Hopefully, we will get a dedicated Amiibo game. There are two directions, I'd be really happy with.

Either a free game (similar in style to Nintendoland) where the Amiibos basically unlock the game.

Or a game where you only need a limited number of Amiibos to play it, maybe an RPG with a 3 character party
Samus, Shiek, Wonder-Pink!

I don't hope for a full-price game that still hides most of its content behind figurines.

I bought a Mario Amiibo, I had more fun than I thought I would training him, then a friend saw my Amiibo, fought him, and went to buy a Yoshi one afterwards, then we had them battle.

I don't know why but it was so silly and fun to do so, this won't last long but it's interesting.

The F2P direction would probably be the least offensive, especially if they allowed the base functionality of the game to be mostly compatible with Miis before any amiibo are scanned. In essence, it'd be a similar method of distribution to Steel Diver, with the cost of amiibo substituting for the paid additions to already substantial gameplay.

The Best Buy I went to and the Target I went to both had them displayed openly. You could examine them at your convenience.

I've been to two Gamestops and they each had them out in the open, but there were security locks on the rods they were hanging on which made it inconvenient to look them over.

I'm not sure if it has been posted yet but my local Toys R Us is having a "buy Smash Bros Wii U and get an Amiibo free" sale. I picked up one up that way.

I'm getting close to beating my Fox amiibo. He used to four-stock me (in a five-stock match), but last night it came down to one stock each. As Zero Suit Samus, I've learned a good approach is to dash at him but to stop short and use the whip. The amiibo usually shields if I go for the dash attack, but the whip sometimes catches him off-guard.

These things are smart. But I'm smarter!
I think

If his response is to shield, you should be able to overcome that with a whip grab.
(I don't play as ZSS so I don't know the actual workings of the whip grab)

I bought my second Amiibo today (Samus), since I really enjoy fighting against my Marth so far. I think it's quite a lot of fun, especially since he makes for a good training partner for my Smash Bros. inexperienced girlfriend. :P

However, I am pretty disappointed that you can't use them online. Amiibo-only fights would have been so awesome. I wonder if there's any chance that they'll patch Amiibo compatibility later into the game...

So in all seriousness
They locked the spinner behind link so that we all buy the shitty posed amiibo and then when they release another variant link we all buy that because the first is so bad

It wasn't until I saw it in the packet and then opened it at home that I realised how bad link staring at the floor was

Thank god for yoshi and fox I got today

I'd love that if I could pit my amiibo against other people's amiibo online.

Although I wonder how broken it could be with the option to feed amiibo. I haven't fed mine yet. Either way, they're stronger, smarter versions of CPUs, but when unfed they still seem reasonably fair.

I got a kirby amiibo today...
and a pikachu

so far

samus
wii fit trainer
fox
kirby
pikachu

to buy

zelda
captain falcon
shulk
rosalina
lucario

I never buy toys. I just ordered 2.

I actually want it because I heard fighting it can improve you in smash and dear lord I need that.

question. I got a mario, does that mean it will be mario in game or does it just hold a character?

His face? I give a 7/10. I can accept.

If that face is a 7/10, I can't imagine what a 2 or a 3 would look like.

I don't quite understand your question, but it holds a profile for that character. You need to unlock custom moves in the game to assign them to your amiibo. You can also feed it custom equipment to boost either its attack, defence, or speed.

Reserved all of Wave 3 besides the store exclusives at GameStop today. Feels good to stop having to worry about that now.

Reminds me that I still need to pre-order Meta Knight from Best Buy. Did they ever confirm Rosalina to be a Target exclusive? I've been hearing mixed things.

What gets me about Marth's Marf-Face is even with reduced quality on the production figures, the other characters are very much on-model.

But Marf is "stop what are you doing" in the face mold/paint department.

So this seems like an appropriate thread for a funny

anecdote...

My sister asked me last night what I wanted for Christmas and my only response was "amiibo." Luckily she knew what they were and asked "which one," to which I replied "I have Mario, DK, and Yoshi...so all the others."

I'm 28 years old. My fiance, sister, and mother then kicked me out of the room to discuss my request, which I presume means that my mother and sister wanted to confirm with my fiance that she was okay marrying someone who asked for a bunch of amiibo for Christmas...
She is...I think.

Which sounds like a brilliant business proposition. Buy this $12 figure to help you beat the harder parts of the game.

I am. I want them to be so much more, but as far as their implementation in Smash they are far better opponents than lv9 bots, especially at high or max level. I've been buying them mostly due to them being a collectable Nintendo figurine set, but I've used each one i've got in Smash so far as well.

Ok, just wondering, what is up with the UK loving Kirby and Yoshi so fucking much? I'm British and I don't get it. Can someone else explain it to me? Yoshi and Kirby are sold out everywhere and if you check amazon the sellers there are charging £20+ last I checked for them. Even on the nintendo UK store they are only out of Yoshi and Kirby. There were 3 Marths in my local GAME, no Villager and a Wii Fit Trainer and from what I've seen they are the popular ones in the US (kinda makes sense as they are from more niche titles and probably shipped in lower quantities because of it).

I don't get it. Why can I not get a Kirby at a decent price ;_;

What really happened behind closed doors:

Fiancee: "He trusts me to get him a Marth with a non-derp face. To put such trust in me... He must truly be my soul mate!"

Sister: "I agree. Such a display of trust is remarkable."

Mom: "And to think I thought today's kids had forgot the meaning of love!"

which character? must mario be mario? or can my mario be, dr mario for example?

haha! I'll move forward believing this was the conversation that took place...

My friends and I have been putting money down on our Amiibo fights.

I was pretty down on their functionality at first, but now I'm proud of my little group of prize fighters.

Each amiibo is used as that specific character. Mario will be Mario, Link will be Link, etc. You can't get, say, a Pikachu amiibo and use it as a Kirby fighter in the game.

Oh man I really want a Doctor Mario Amiibo! That would be awesome. Still only have my four (Mario, DK, Link and Samus). I like others wish they did more :-).

Why doesn't scanning an Amiibo automatically upload to Club Nintendo and gives me some coins? All new games should come with NFC Club Nintendo cards instead of printing it on the case slip now.

Spinner in Hyrule Warriors is awesome. The non-Link amiibos give you decent materials, too
when Koei isn't trolling with 1 Rupee drops
. Going to Best Buy to preorder the second wave right now, then back home to set up the Xmas tree and scan in the MK8 costumes.

December kicks ass.
