Best looking Wii U game out right now?

Definitely Mario Kart 8. I'm also a huge fan of how Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze looks. And of course, the amazing Pikmin 3!

Holy shit, so many answers and I'm the first to mention Tropical Freeze?

Btw, I have MK8, Mario 3D world and Wind Waker HD. They all look great but what's wrong with you???

edit: oh, actually beaten by a couple of minutes

I think it's smash bros. Just take your time and look at the character models and their beautiful animations. Wonderful

The ones I've been most impressed by so far are DKC: Tropical Freeze and Wind Waker. I don't know jack about how much blast processing they have or whatever, but I think they're the prettiest.

From an off TV perspective, Fifa 13 gets my vote, there is something hypnotic, to have a full fledge FIFA in my hands, running so well. Over 1000 online matches already, and still amazed after each kick-off.

Mario Kart 8, no question. Honestly, it might be the best looking game available on any console at retail right now. (Maybe sans Unity, when it works)

LOL. er.... No.

But if we're talking about just the WiiU. I'd go Mario Kart 8. A fantastic looking game.

The games on Wii U are so bright that my eyes hurt from looking at them sometimes. The Mario Kart 8 loading screen, the white screens in smash... even in-game things are a bit too bright. As a user of f.lux who is usually playing these games between 11pm-2am, I really wish I could tone down the color a little sometimes.

But compared to many other non-nintendo published games, it is refreshing, yes.

Brawl suffered from the issues and gaming standards of 2006/2007/2008/2009 where colour was seen as the enemy. Its colours were so dulled.
Yup, they tried to make it look "gritty" and realistic but it didn't work out so well. Luckily on Wii U it reverted to the more colorful Melee-ish look.

So many wrong answers. Well done to everyone who got it correct by saying Pikmin 3. For extra credit what will be the best looking wiiu game of 2015 Xenoblade or Zelda?

I'd say Mario Kart 8 & Bayonetta 2 are both glorious showpiece games, MK8 gets the nod for it's in-motion graphics being the best looking thing I've ever played.

Yes that's right come at me tech heads and haters, I agree with what was said earlier in the thread, I don't care to analyze single screen images or debate poly counts and texture maps, it's just a straight up beautiful game.

This looks like an animated painting. The artstyle will make this game hard to top.

Nintendo devs may not have the graphical horsepower to work with as developers do for the other two consoles, but they do seem to absolutely nail the art style damn near every time.

Just from looking at screens, Tropical Freeze looks great. Pikman 3 looks phenomenal as well.

Wink Waker HD takes the cake for me.

Currently playing it (Tri Force Quest) and am still getting blown away every session. Honestly, it's the best looking game I've ever played and on top of that it's a pretty fantastic game!

Nice thread! My ranking would be:

1. Mario Kart 8 - it has fantastic living world full of animated entities
2. Nintendo Land - under-rated gem with asymmetric gameplay
3. Captain Toad TT - a living and breathing diorama
4. Super Smash Bros Wii U - great showcase but some stages are flat
5. Super Mario 3D World - this 60 fps masterpiece was just the beginning

Others:

Bayonetta 2 - good but could have been better if Platinum had used Nintendo's engine
Pikmin 3 - beautiful even if it runs at 30 fps which is acceptable for an RTS
Donkey Kong Tripical Freeze - The graphics are great but the lighting is baked
Windwaker HD - 30 fps with slowdown isn't good enough for a remake; good thing it has a timeless art style.

I expect Nintendo to take the Wii U to the next level of graphical performance in 2015 with Splatoon, Yoshi, Starfox and Zelda U.

Pikmin, 3D World, DKC, Mario Kart, Smash, and Treasure Tracker are all gorgeous games with amazing art styles so it's really hard to choose.

I think I'll give it to 3D World though. Jumping around those gorgeous environments at 60FPS was amazing.

I was really underwhelmed by Smash to be honest.

The 1080p/60 is really nice obviously, but the lighting looks super flat, plenty of jaggies and the backgrounds look really basic with simple lighting/textures.

My vote would be Super Mario 3D world and Wind Waker HD.

I'm going with Mario Kart 8, though not in screenshots obviously. It's also hard to separate it from the music, but the combination reaches Mario Galaxy levels of pure joy, with which I can definitely see why people call it the best looking game on any platform, though that's more the aesthetical, sensory, beauty than the technological one.

Goddamnit you're just making me realize how much I'm missing out on the current gen, and how much Nintendo has kicked ass and will always kick ass, even with lesser hardware. They have a 6th sense where Microsoft and Sony do not. I hope to buy a Wii-U soon.

I have experienced their "magic" on many consoles, and what it boils down to is being able to use the hardware provided to the best of your ability. Other developers "port" their shit onto Xbox or PS4, after creating it as a PC game from the geto-go. (If you don't think all PS4/X1 games are now developed on a PC first then I don't even want to see your posts dude) The beautiful thing about Nintendo games is that they pretend PC's don't exist.... (even if they themseles find their origin on a PC/Mac)

Could have been intentional because realistic lighting and shadows would make the characters disappear in the background which would affect the gameplay. In a fast-paced game like SSB, character visibility is as important as having 60 fps framerate,

I think Guar Plains has the best lighting by far on the character models. And one of the Metroid stages.

I feel like all the outside stages should've used whatever they used for Guar tbh.

Screenshots don't do Nintendo HD games justice. You have to play the games, hear the awesome music and see them in motion. The experience is unlike any other.

He just defied all of Nintendo's first party developers so I understand your rebuttle. However.. ZombieU... Yeah couldn't find a screenshot from them that can beat something like this:

If we are talking about stills, MK8's knock is justified, but in motion that game is absolutely stunning and blows away anything else I've seen. When actually playing a game, MK8 offers a completely unrivaled look among any game.

I'd certainly love to play Zombie U, but unfortunately none of my friends living in the same area have the system. The closest lives 200km away. =/

I see a lot of colourful images in this thread, what we going on? the art palette or the actual graphics performance?

For me it's MK, runs well, maps are a decent size with a lot of information being pumped through it continuously.

I'm there with you. Colorful, crisp, smooth animations, 60fps, and a nice bit of scope for the tracks. Hard to decide between it and 3D World.

Definitely Wind Waker HD for me personally.

But I'm sure that could change for me once I get to play Captain Toad. That one looks great from what I've seen so far.

That's down sampled from 1440p to 1080p.

Unless there is a hidden 2 TF GPU in there somewhere it is not going to happen.

Nintendo do bullshots as well you know.

Why don't people post there own screen shots of gameplay rather than PR or Racing photo mode stuff so people can see what games actually look like when playing.

Games like Forza do better IQ in 'replay' mode its often hard to see pics of ingame

You realise the Mario Kart TV mode is all in-engine and is how the game looks, right?

In engine of course, like forza 5...ahem

Eurogamer DF

Replay angles allow for some dramatic camera work while depth of field helps eliminate distant rendering artifacts. Also note the slightly sharper shadow rendering seen from the replay angle.

So no

The game looks like the pics in EG article, motion blur, distant artefacts and aliasing and not sharp.
