Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi : "Unexpected" game announcement "soon"

It's like Ono saying that only "four people" on the internet guessed Decapre.

The unexpected announcement gives me pause, but I would also wonder if he thinks that because of DmC.

Again, I'd like to think that this is leading up to DMC's revival. All "unexpected" reminds me of is the various things that Famitsu says in order to get you to tune in for next week's issue.

After all, even in spite of "DmC", Capcom has had little qualms with keeping the original DMC/Dante in the public consciousness. Project X Zone. Several mobage appearances. Costume/Weapon DLC in the likes of Monster Hunter Frontier and Sengoku BASARA 4.

Sure, you could make the same arguments for the likes of Rockman, too. But at least in DMC's case, you actually have a few leads and a team still at modern Capcom who would actually champion the cause for making a new game, and likely would follow through with making a competent entrant on top of that.

Next month Resident Evil 4 will be 10 years old.
In 2005 going back 10 years would land you in 1995, Resident Evil didn't exist.

Time passes far too quickly, jeez.
I would like another Dino Crisis though... Do it Capcom, ride that Jurassic World hype.
No feathers though please.

If another DC game comes out and the dinos don't have feathers.
Just watch. Half of the hype thread or whatever will just be the discussion of that.

There was also a DMC4 Pachinko machine released in Japan, both Dante and Vergil were in Capcom All Stars, and Dante was featured in some Capcom 30th anniversary celebration materials. I've kept track of DMC-related topics since DmC dropped.

DMC still has significant influence.

I don't think they even mention Reboot Dante or DmC in the Capcom dictionary thing that they put out last year.

Watch as I'm probably wrong

DMC3 is two months away from being a decade old

I would be totally happy with either DMC5 or Dragon's Dogma 2.

Honestly though, I think I want Dragon's Dogma 2 just a hair more. Dragon's Dogma needs a sequel that blows the original out of the water and lets us truly experience what Dragon's Dogma should have been. Dark Arisen felt like a proof of concept on what more Dragon's Dogma could be, and I loooved what I saw, so really just GIVE ME MORE!

They've mentioned it in investor financial reports because it was a title currently in the market, and is part of one of their core franchises. It's also been featured in sales, but usually along with the DMC HD Collection or DMC4. To be fair, most of the recent promos and materials from Capcom have been geared towards Japan, and would understandably be DMC-related rather than DmC-related.

DMC3 is two months away from being a decade old

That's it. The feeling of oldness is just too strong.

I mean, i even remember being on the goddamn Gamefaqs forum, my first one ever, in the months leading to its launch. Hyping it around that age (13 at the time) was insane and the sheer wonder of finally getting to play was unforgettable.

And now a whole decade went by since then. Terrifying.

Oh yeah, and a true sequel to DMC4 would be so HHHNNNNGGGGG

Devil May Cry 5 starring Dante and Vergil, please. DMC3 was such an amazing game.

Nero could totally be in it too! Expand upon his abilities though...

A fully built and advertised DMC co-op system pretty much needs to happen. They kind of experimented with it in DMC3 but I was hoping they'd make it an official thing with DMC4 given it had two protagonists.

It's really obvious.

Ninja Gaiden has been doing it for years. Bayo 2 beat them to the punch.

I've wanted co-op Devil May Cry ever since I learned that player 2 could control Vergil during the Arkham boss battle as well as control your copy during Doppleganger style.

Since co-op has been done, PvP/online versus mode is the next step. Imagine the Dante vs. Vergil and vs. Nero fights, Bayonetta vs. Jeanne, Ryu against Fiend Ryu / Doppelganger Ryu, but with a skilled human player. They could even have a ghost data feature as well. Brea's ghost data, hory shit.

Anyway, I remember a bunch of people saying that DMC had been milked and that little changed between games. But thinking about it, five games over 12 years is nothing. Hell, there was a five year gap between DMC4 and DmC.

DMC5 should have three playable characters, semi open world/SOTN progression system with the environment. Playing with other people or characters allows you to explore the world more quickly, enemies are more challenging and come in greater numbers. If you play alone you gotta find items that give you other character abilities, online play is always you jumping into someone else's game and helping them or you're the host seeking help. Helping people nets you a upgrade currency or items.

I think there's been just enough change between games, to be honest. If DMC5 ends up being a Dante exclusive game again I hope they expand on the 4 system and give Dante a bigger variety of weapons to use and bosses to utilize them. There are definitely lessons DMC5 could learn from Bayonetta and Revengeance I think.

How about on the fly character switching?

It's not going to be Dragon's Dogma 2 or Megaman Legends 3. I'm sorry Capcom. I love you, but I just can't give you the hype you need to sustain your spirit ball.

Oh my god, give me Dragon's Dogma 2 naaaaaaoooowwwwwwwww.

And just Dragon's Dogma 2 please without some DMC tie ins.

How about on the fly character switching?

I'd actually welcome that more than the return of style switching, personally.

If nothing else, the likes of Lady being fully built around an upgraded and expanded version of Gunslinger would speak to me more than it just being another style for Dante to use. Not to mention that it seems like they had an interesting idea for Trish's moveset in MvC3 that I would love to see elaborated in an actual DMC game.

Plus, they've already done this in BASARA years ago...

Trish in MvC3 is based on her incarnation as a playable character in DMC2.

I'm actually sort of curious about people clamoring for DD2. Is there any indication that Deep Down won't scratch the itch as a Dragon's Dogma successor?

If DD2 gets announced, I'm expecting a lot of reused assets.

Deep Down looks nothing like Dragon's Dogma other than the medievel like fantasy setting (and even that is just some animus like thing in Deep Down.)

Also you cant even create female Characters in Deep Down, which makes it automatically unable to match my super cool Dragons Dogma Assassin

And didn't that incarnation have a lot of DMC1 Dante moves?

It did. And specifically the flight, roundtrip, electricity, switch to hand-to-hand combat were in both MvC3 and DMC2.

I'd totally love a DMC game with a fully fleshed out and playable Trish and Lady.

So... it's a new DMC according to (most of) GAF?

I don't really like Dragon's Dogma, so I'd prefer DMC.

DD and DMC is just where most of the dreams lie.
There's nothing really pushing either as being for sure though.
The DD news article is at least interesting however but it's placement is odd in more ways then one.

Shit now i'm hyped even though i know that it will end in tears.

It's crazy to think that even just an announcement of a PC and or PS4 version of Dark Arisen would make me more excited than pretty much all new games.

PC version (playable at 60fps without problems) with better textures. and as the only new feature a real new game plus with increasing difficulty. I would be in Heaven.

Dragons Dogma 2 pls, the original was literally my game of the generation. The best part was that it was mostly a proof of concept, not even a fully polished thing. Still hope we get a remastered version of the first game on both the next gen consoles and the PC, still haven't played Dark Arisen.

Capcom dont fuck up
remains cautiously optimistic
