Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi : "Unexpected" game announcement "soon"

My body is ready

I'm actually sort of curious about people clamoring for DD2. Is there any indication that Deep Down won't scratch the itch as a Dragon's Dogma successor?

can't trust the free to play model. i also don't know how versatile the skill set will be. jumping? any agile characters etc. what i saw looked great, but you can't be sure until you see the full game.

No its already all pretty much confirmed what the game will be. They've released several long gameplay segments now. It looks basically nothing like Dogma at all.

Alright, then. Just wanted to confirm. I haven't been following the latest Deep Down stuff.

I wonder how upset people will be when they find out it's a Sengoku Basara 4 expansion

I know you jest, but I just don't see it happening here, even if we do ignore the "turn heads overseas" remark.

The last time we got an update related to BASARA was at TGS, where Kobayashi basically did more to hint that the next "big" announcement for that series would happen at BASARA's own show ("BASARA Matsuri") early next year. So, we're more likely to get 4's expansion announcement there.

If anything, I'm hoping the DMC costume DLC for SB4 was a nice little hint to what KobaP and his crew might have been working on all along.

You might be right. Did the dev for DC3 openly take a dump on the lead character from the previous games though?

Yeah for as shit as DC3 was at least it didn't mess with the main characters from 2 & 1.
DmC is always in such a odd spot though about discussion. I liked it for what it was, but I sure would want more of the original DMC any day. Always comes down to why they decided to reboot it in the first place.

Yeah no problem I understand. When they first showed Deep Down me and my friends lost our shit because we thought it was Dragons Dogma 2 just with a development code name.

Needless to say when Capcom actually showed off what the game was.......saying we were let down would be a huge understatement.

Wait what?

I think it would have been a better received game in general with gamers and sales if it had simply been a new IP and not a reboot nobody was really asking for. And yeah, I'm still puzzled as to why Capcom decided to reboot DMC after it just had its best selling entry.

Playing Dragon Age the other night I kept thinking about how good a next-gen Dragon's Dogma with a steady frame-rate would be. I'm fully prepared to be disappointed by a non-DD2 announcement, but man....there's so much potential in a sequel.

That design looks awful........why does he have like 6 swords?

Because it's really BASARA's Date Masamune cosplaying as Dante, who's trademark fighting style involves the use of six swords.

On another note, that's not the first time he used Six Alastors at once in the BASARA series.

FUCK DRAGON'S DOGMA (sorry guys)
BRING BACK DMC.

DMC5 would probably cost less to make as well, character action games don't seem as expensive as AAA open world fantasy titles.

There is a character in Sengoku Basara with six swords like that, the design is similar to that.

Ah ok, that makes more sense then. I've never played that franchise so I was confused.

Kobayashi stating this makes it a bit more likely its DMC as he worked on DMC4.

However him saying unexpected doesn't gel with a DMC5 announcement but then again its Kobayashi he would say whatever.

It's like Ono saying that only "four people" on the internet guessed Decapre.

The unexpected announcement gives me pause, but I would also wonder if he thinks that because of DmC.

Like I said before I think, if its actually DMC5, the "unexpected" comes in because people might not expect them to go back on the reboot.

they rebooted DMC last year dude...

I wouldn't consider Metal Gear Rising to be a sequel or part of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, in fact its considered its own series (Rising does hold up to the Solid franchise though).

DmC from last year is essentially its own franchise, whether or not it'll be a one and done scenario has to be seen, it'll probably end up being that way.

DmC is a fine character action game with really neat platforming and level design. Its really missing the style, fluidity, and momentum of other character action games. Like, Metal Gear Rising isn't like DMC3 or DMC4 at all, but its character action style and design comes through in spades.

DmC is essentially a action game, similar to Killer is Dead, Lollipop Chainsaw, that sorta thing. I actually really dig all of those games as well.
